During the fall semester I will continue to have my part-time at the Ann Taylor Factory in the Charlotte Premium Outlets. I am honored to have a high spirited and understanding group of managers. I have already informed them that I will be attending graduate school at Johnson C. Smith University. They are more than happy to give me small hour during the week and to work longer over the holidays. I am fully aware of the importance of balancing my field placement, school work, and job at once. The best outcome is scheduling and making time to study at least three to four hours per class. I always consider arriving on time and setting the professional attitude and role at my agency top priority. Lastly, if I am not able to balance them all at once I will firmly end my job at the Ann Taylor Factory. My value for my education is much higher than having a part time job and my family will support my …show more content…
While interning at my previous agency, I learned the basics of social work and understood the amount of paperwork that was involved. I also observed and attended home visits and office visits for both programs at the agency. The major setback was taking in two agencies at a time. I was trying my best to put my focus on both programs. There would be times when one program had little work and the other had none for the day. I would actually like to be with one single program in an agency that can provide helpful information on documenting their work and caseloads. I want to gain the amount of case load with clients to better understand them and their situations. I would also like to meet and understand every client the agency decides to give me. One major experience I have yet to come across was tough clients. The clients given to me were the easy, sweet, nice clients that they see every day. I hope to find a client with a little difficult, so I know exactly how to assess and engage with
I was so excited to get a call back from Jackson Hewitt about starting my part-time internship in the Spring with them. In order to graduate in December, I had to continue to take a full course load of classes this semester. Therefore, I was happy I could find something locally in Tuscaloosa so that I could take classes at the same time while working part-time. It was tough at first managing my five classes, work-study, and internship all in one semester but I managed to pull through it successfully. With that being said, my internship at Jackson Hewitt was a success and I learned many wonderful things that could potentially benefit my future career.
For my interview, I interviewed my family friend Sandi Mahoney that has her masters in social work. She attended Umass Amherst for her bachelor 's degree and then she attended Framingham State for her masters. Currently, Mahoney works as a therapist at her own private practice. My first impression of the agency was it was a small building. I did not feel overwhelmed going into the building because how small it was and I knew exactly where to go. There was a secretary that was in the waiting room and she was very friendly to me. The waiting room was also very welcoming. There were pictures of happy families all over the waiting room. There was also a play area for children. If I was a client here, I would feel very comfortable talking and telling Sandi Mahoney what was on my mind.
In the past year, in which I have sat out from Tarleton, there were some changes that happened in my life. I quit my job that was not related to my Master’s degree and now I am working in the IT field. I am a Help Desk Analyst. I am putting to use the knowledge I acquired through the classes I have taken at Tarleton in this position. With this position, I am better equipped to pursue and complete my master’s degree. When I get reinstated back in the spring, I promise to be dedicated to my classes. I developed an action plan that I have included in this document. To begin with, I will develop a time management plan that includes at least 12 hours per week of study time. I will be able to measure how many hours per week I study throughout the
Group being taught: 6th graders in traditional Social Studies class. This class has a range of special education, ELL, gifted and traditional students. There are 34 very diverse students in this class. The students in this class are reading at a variety of grade levels, from 2nd- 9th grade. As an accommodation, I did make a voice recording of the article and made that available to four students ( one on an IEP, one on a BIP and two who read at a second grade level). Those students had articles to follow along with as they listened to the article, they still followed the “Say Something” strategy just like all of the other students. Students in this class are excited to learn, and easily engaged, especially when reading primary sources.
The clients that I met so far have interesting stories that I could link to my experience. There are stories that had me crying and questioned so many things in life. What I love from clients that I met is they strive for change. Not only that they mention it, but they show it by their actions that they are ready to adopt changes in their lives and they would do whatever it takes to meet their goals. My perspectives about the social workers at Heartfelt is they make me proud of choosing social work and also their diligent have helped me embraced things that I have never thought about in the social work field and in life. What have surprised me is the trust that my supervisor and the rest of the employee have in me. They count on me when completing task and embrace and value my voice in meetings. For instance, my supervisor let me trained current and new employees completing tasks. At first, I felt awkward training people who have more experience than me and they are accredited professionals. It is just amazing how the workers put their egos aside and are open to learn from others. In terms of ethical dilemma, I have not yet encountered one.
Growing up, I have succumbed to realize that nothing comes easy, and the ones who work the hardest reap the greatest rewards. I am a determined and confident person, driven to become a successful student. I am willing to rise up to the challenge of learning, growing, and working in the industry that is notorious for being extremely competitive. The Fashion Business Management program will guide me and provide me with the knowledge and experience to acquire a successful career as a fashion buyer. By attending F.I.T., my skills and hard work will put me on the right path for success, and I know that with a positive mindset and my strong desire to succeed, I will make a diligent, hardworking candidate for
As of now I am enrolled as a business/pre-dentistry student. I originally had enrolled to UWM last year, but because of financial difficulties I was unable to attend. I was very upset over the fact that I would not be able to attend school like the rest of my friends. I was so discouraged that I even thought about not going back to school. However, I knew that not furthering my education was not an option. I started working at a retail store. I told myself that everything I earned would go towards my tuition. Throughout the whole year that I did not attend school I worked the majority of the time. I picked up a lot of shifts and the few off days that I did have I would spend helping my mom around the house or helping her run errands. I rarely got to see my friends. My job was literally my second home. Nonetheless, I do not regret any of it. All of my hard work paid off. I managed to save up enough for a semester of classes. Not only am I proud of myself but I am also extremely excited for this fall! My long-range plans are to graduate from UWM and then go on to dental school. The reason why I chose to major in business accounting and not a science major, was because I feel that it will make me more well-rounded. Accounting has also always been an interest of mine. Hopefully by my senior year at UWM I get a accepted into
Working forty hours a week and managing two classes per semester, one on-line and one in class, is not an easy task. Working till 5 o’clock and driving an hour to Newark to take a night class to work towards this ultrasound program is something that I wanted to do. I had to mange my time with studying and completing homework while working full time. So, time management has been a part of my lifestyle for a while. I can use what I have learned this past year into how to balance the academic and clinical portion of school. I truly want to be a part of this program and will plan my semesters accordingly to make sure I
Revising my schedule I realized that it would be better if I start work after I finish my undergraduate studies, my last day being May 26. At the moment I am committed to finish this semesters with the best grades possible to bump up your GPA. I'm interesting in this position if the above is possible.
After I graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara I was unsure what my next step would be. Of course I was anxious since I did not have experience working nor did I excel in my undergrad studies however, I knew I needed to use my newly earned degree in a positive way. Fast forward, after working for two years, I have gained the skills, knowledge and values from my work experiences that have confirmed my desire to advance my education in the social work field. I currently have my own case load of clients as a case manager at a level 12 group home but it’s time to take the next step forward. I want to ultimately advance social justice and provide services to assist individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities.
Starting from being a certified nursing assistant, to becoming a unit secretary for a hospital that specialize in wound care, I have always known that I wanted to help individuals in need. However, I noticed that I was not happy with helping individuals in medical need. It wasn’t until I decided to continue my education that I introduced to the world of social work. Going up with a single mother that suffered from drug abuse, my family depended on social services for a lot of assistance, from everything such as food stamps to family counseling. This life experience helped guide my thoughts on pursuing social work as a career. I know that I want to help individuals that are down on their luck, but I want to take it one step farther, by providing individual counseling to adults that may need more one on one time, than what is normally given from a social service agency. Counseling will also give me a chance to do what I love most and that is to talk and get to know the individuals that I am helping make like changing decisions. Working as a clinical social work has my interest because it does not put limits on what I can do or who I can help, and it will set me up for my future goal of becoming a licensed clinical social worker. Being my own boss and changing my community is my dream job, opportunity and goal. I am currently on my way with changing my community and living my dream, because I am currently working for a non-profit
It's exceedingly difficult for somebody to find a school and a job in the same area because of the economy, seems somewhat like the Great Depression. Traveling from school to work can be a bit tough for individual work and travelling to school full time, for example, you might have to depart school at 4:30 and be at work at 5:00 but your job is an hour away with no beginning of transit other than the CTA. It's uncommon now in days to find a job working part time because most people want to be part time as I only because I don’t desire to look anywhere not home, schoolhouse, or work even if my studies are online, there's more of a commitment because it's almost as if you're teaching yourself. Traveling a distance from school and work may also stress you out because this has to do with time management as well what if the teacher holds you, or the bus is delayed, or the car won't start, now here’s a write up because you can't seem to get to work on time. It's then possible to verbalize to the school or the job about your hours, but what occurs if they both say no then what will you
Hi Laura, I enjoyed hearing about the kinds of high-risk situations and clients that you have encountered during your field placement. According to Garthwait, “Certain social work practices and interventions have a greater likelihood of placing the social worker at risk” (2014, pp. 55). After listening to your presentation, it sounds as if you have been able to experience this first hand. It is within these types of situations that our actions as a social worker can be seen as being threatening or intimidating by the client. Therefore, it was nice to learn that the agency where you are interning at has a policy in place for when you encounter a client who is or may become angry, threatening, or even volatile toward you or another individual.
Having a well-paying part time job would be a great thing for a college student that is very close to graduation. The main issue with this scenario would be time. If I were to accept the job, just the commute itself would be something to consider. Could I possibly find a lesser paying job that is closer to where I live? Also, with taking 18 hours of class, knowing that they all are going to be very time consuming, I would have to consider if I would be able to keep my grades where they need to be. Graduating and keeping my grades up would be the main priority. With just being 18 hours away from graduation, I would definitely not want to fail a class and have to take it again due to working too much.
I will remain a student regardless if it's only part-time to continue my classes. As of right now I am seeking employment with a company that has growth potential, good benefits, and an excellent retirement plan. It would be terrific to find a company that will help me to enhance my business skills while I'm attending DeVry University obtaining my Bachelor's degree.
