I was in the eighth grade when we read Anne Frank’s The Diary of a Young Girl, after reading that book it made me want to discover more about the Holocaust. I ventured off to the internet and did some research but it was not enough for me. Then, second semester of eighth grade came and there was a book fair at my school. I went with my friends and we started looking around the book fair, as we were looking around my friends started getting books that they wanted to buy but not me. I was still looking around for a the “perfect book.” I finally went to the history section of the book fair and that was when I saw my perfect book. “In My Hands: Memories of a Holocaust Rescuer by Irene Opdyke with Jennifer Armstrong,” I read the little description
“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside... Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be”(Anne Frank). In the story, “Diary of a Young Girl”, by Anne Frank, Anne is a young Jewish girl who has to flee into hiding during the Holocaust and writes in her diary about what goes on. At the beginning Anne is sociable, but as the war progresses she becomes lonely. Therefore I believe that loneliness can change a person.
The book "The Book Thief" is based during the Holocaust. It follows the story of a German girl who lives with two German adoptive parents. More towards the middle of the story the girl ends up living with and befriending a Jew who was hiding in their house. The little girl lives in a German town that supports Hitler. I learned of what some of the Germans would do to Jewish owned stores and/or homes. I read how it was for a Jew to be in hiding all alone with little food and not much space to do things other than sit and think. I learned how a friendship can be made or kept even if one is being hunted and the other is going to fight on the wrong side of the war. What impacted me was how easy it is to influence a child in believing something.
What was the development of Anne frank to an Adult? Because Anne franks life was ended short she was growing up as an Adult through the whole Holocaust. Inside the attic is where she grew up. Anne Frank was hiding away from holocaust in an attic, These major events cause a ton of character development with Anne from Childhood to Adulthood, "The Diary of Anne Frank" By Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett.

Literature helps us remember the past and honor the victims of the Holocaust in many contrasting ways. “The Grand Mosque of Paris”, an explanatory text by Karen Ruelle, “A Great Adventure in the Shadow of a War” , a reflective essay by Mary Helen Dirkx, “ The Diary of a Young Girl”, a diary excerpt by Anne Frank, “The Diary of Anne Frank”, an autobiography by Anne Frank, the “Acceptance Speech for the Nobel Peace Prize”, a speech by Elie Wiesel, and “Maus”, a graphic novel by Art Spiegelman all present the past in different ways to help us honor the victims of the Holocaust.
The play of The Diary of Anne Frank tells the story of her family going into hiding from the Nazi’s in world war two. In this play, Anne journals and tells her story about the war that is going on and her struggles. In another book called Night it tells the story of a teen whose name is Elie having to struggle to live in a concentration camp in world war two. Although Elie Wiesel and Anne Frank had different views on the holocaust, both had a strong relationship with their father, and a religion to get them through the holocaust.
Those who take the time to fully examine the Holocaust, and its exemplary survivors deal with the unsettling knowledge that those before them over looked. Between the years of 1933 to 1947, the Holocaust prospered through many countries in Europe, including the proximity of one survivor’s homeland, Poland. Alicia: My Story by Alicia Appleman-Jurman is historically famous for it’s shocking relevance throughout its background. It has also been infamous for its brutal unvarnished truth by well-known book reviews, but overall it’s cultural impact on the world has shown it is a lesson that should be known by all.
As a Jewish person, who has been largely exposed to Holocaust material, it is hard simply to focus upon one piece to write about. I attended Hebrew school from the time I entered pre-school, until the day of my bat mitzvah. The middle and high schools that I attended devoted much of their curriculums to teachings about the Holocaust. My family also felt it very valuable for me to know and understand. Thus, I have read Night and attended a speech given by Elie Wiesel. I have read the Diary of Anne Frank, other memoirs and accounts, as well as fictional and rigid non-fictional books. I have watched Schindler’s List, Sophie’s Choice, Life is Beautiful, and a host of
Although this book was fictional it was very realistic and held much of what actual children felt during the holocaust. Shown in the exhibit it allows to touch, listen, and engage in “his” world. One will see a few real diary entries that were written by a jew back during the holocaust was in motion. It is a great learning experience, because the holocaust was not only about murdered jews, “remember the children.”
Knowing that Ellie’s father is away at a forced labor camp will make you always want to continue reading the book. Another thing that will make you not want to put the book down, will be hearing the real occurrences that happen at Auschwitz and at Plaszow, the concentration camps. When you realize the young teenage girl, Ellie, is about our age you will want to keep reading because it makes you think that this could’ve happened to you and your family if you lived during this time, when Hitler criticized the Jews for their religion
