In the novel, “Architecture” by Jonathan Glancey discusses the beginning of Architecture and how much Architecture has grown over the past years. In his book, he tries to inform and educate readers and other architects about the old and new styles that we are using today and how they were used during the 1880s. Glancey purpose was to apprise people about the different styles and techniques that are used around the world for architecture. Furthermore, he wants people to know how those different styles are being implemented to our buildings and our designs today. Glancey wants everyone to have more information about architecture, so they can formulate their own ideas and manufacture what they want to build. This book informs us about the different uses of materials that they use for architecture around the world such as plastic reinforced with glass to columns, floor plans, poche, brick, stone, wood, and much more.
An architect’s intention on how his or her design is to be viewed can be misconstrued in a variety of different ways. For example, dissecting the compositional and formal design of a building, with or without knowledge of the architect’s actual intent, is completely up to the interpretation of the person or persons researching or viewing the design. In my own research about the compositional and formal design of the Margaret Esherick House, designed by Louis Kahn, I have come to realize, with the help of scholarly resources, the direct intention of Louis Kahn’s design; in which this paper will come to analyze and explain. While compiling research about the Esherick house, I came across a very informative book, The Houses of Louis Kahn, written by George H. Marcus and William Whitaker. The Houses of Louis
On a clothes advertisement, well shaped and beautiful women came out to introduce new clothes. In hair, clothes, and other many advertisements, usually glamor and really good looking women are main models of the advertisements. Not only in advertisements, but also in many films and dramas, the main character is always a tall, thin and beautiful woman. This situation can be explained by John Berger’s book, “Way’s of seeing”. John Berger is an English art critic, novelist, and painter, and this book is about how people can see something critically and find deep meaning of things, especially art paintings. In chapter 2, there are only paintings and photos, and no words. However, pictures in this chapters show explanation about the phenomenon. According to chapter 2, women always consider themselves and other people’s eye and are treated as objectives as sexual ones.
Question 1. Choose an architect or practice whose work is covered by or relevant to this course and discuss critically one or more of their design projects or drawings or urban proposals as precedent case-studies. Selectively situate this work in relation to their body of work, and against the practices and concerns of the period. Focus on the architectural qualities of a specific key aspect of the design of the projects. Selectively consider how they might relate to the historical situation, cultural values, theoretical concerns and design practices of the time. This may involve a selective analysis of compositional design practices, material fabrication production and the experiential reception of built outcomes of the projects.
The history of Architecture started long time ago. The nomadic were groups of people whom move from one place to another in order find shelter and food to survive. As they progress, their techniques to survive evolve. The need for a permanent shelter became vital for a better stability of the group. This is the time when the first structures that provided protection appeared. Post and lintel were the first forms of Architecture, that satisficed the basic needs. Architecture evolved to be more sophisticated and fulfill the people’s needs. Consequently, Architecture evolved throughout different periods such as: Ancient architecture, Romanesque, The medieval, Renaissance, Early modern, and the industrial age, Modernism and Contemporary

Architecture should reflect meaningfully all aspects of the society’s past-present-future. There is a need to introduce architecture that respects the environment, the people, and reflect the identity of the place.
In the Book Building Green Skyscrapers by Mary Reid, the wind turbine is the best because it can be be use for two uses. To start wind turbines can power up buildings. The narrator stated “The wind spins the huge blades of a wind turbine... the turbine runs a machine called a generator. “ (Reid 5). This shows that this can save energy because all extra energy goes into the batteries for later use. Furthermore, Wind is the best type of source. The narrator stated “Wind power is one free source of clean electricity… wind does not produce harmful gases… Nobody needs to worry about running low on wind” (Reid 4). This explains that wind turbines are the best because you can always count on wind to help if you need. In conclusion, Wind Turbines
One of the most recognized architectural movements are the modern movements which comprise of the International Style, Art Deco Style, and Moderne Style. Modern Movements occurred between 1925 and 1950. Out of the three styles of architecture, International Style has been selected for this art analysis. The International Style of Architecture occurred between 1920s and 1930s, and it is characterized by starkly unornamented rectangular shapes which are very different from the traditional forms of architecture. The reason why International Style of architecture has been chosen for analysis in this paper is the fact that the rectangular shapes used in constructing the style have been punctuated with bands of windows which depict the modern purpose
As writer, interior designer, educator, and American architect Frank Lloyd Wright once said, “The mother art is architecture. Without an architecture of our own we have no soul of our own civilization” (BrainyQuote). The purpose of this paper will deal with the description of...
Regions use the earth mixed with certain ingredients then to be left out in the sun to dry into bricks, when they lacked timber and stone.
As an architect, former U.S. president Thomas Jefferson came up with architectural designs that came to define and influence American architecture and culture in general. This form of Neo-Palladianism and Neo-classism architecture came to be known as Jeffersonian architecture. Some of his notable structures include Monticello (his home), Poplar Forest which was his retreat, the University of Virginia which he founded as well as other homes which he designed for his political allies and friends, a good example being Barboursville. His style gained popularity in the early American period. Similarly, it was during the same time that the more conventional Greek Revival architecture was gaining popularity with his help. With his architectural designs, he later came to define America’s national identity and culture.
The houses and buildings of today are constructed with a wide array of building material
The origin of Chicago’s extensive area of modern buildings was due to a terrible accident (Sayre 1076). On October 18, 1871, Chicago’s business district was in flames due to a fire that started in a cow barn. This fire helped to provide an economic boost in the city. As the city looked for architectural innovation, there were several factors that contributed to what is known as the Chicago School of Architecture.
I love the ornate. So, when I walked into the lobby of the Rookery, I was taken aback. What I enjoyed most about this building is the oriel staircase that winds up from the second floor, the natural light showing through the glass ceiling was also a beautiful sight. While I love the old-time feel the copper iron work gives to the room, I felt that the white marble and geometric gold leaf pattern brightened up what must have been a very dark and dreary looking space. As much as I enjoyed the interior, I also loved the massive arched doorway and large brick facades on the outside.
Architecture can be viewed with two different types of properties. Properties that can be seen like shapes, their composition, the spaces they create and, the colours and textures that make up their appearance. These properties are considered to be visual while other properties are considered to be abstract. These properties can only be described using words; the meanings behind the architecture and the stories that can be told about it. The context, its cultural background and its function also affects how we view architecture. The question is, what
