Gender is the personal traits and social positions that members of a society attach to being female of male. “Are Gendered Toys Bad for Boys and Girls?” is the question asked with in the podcast. So in this essay it will discuss the opinion in the podcast vs. the fact of the sociological perspective in the book.
The podcast talks about how the creation of toys such as lego and according to lego girls like pink and purple, like baking, being a hair stylist, etc. lego gives their opinion as to what a girl and boy play with want to be and will experience. This means that the boy is more of a dominant quality in other words with in the podcast. The book talks about how in other countries girls are more of a dominant quality compared to men. The gender and inequality reflect the cultural patterns of time and place. As said when comparing gender from around the world different societies see and think diferent things when it comes to gender and the role of gender. Gender in the united states compared to arapesh is very different. For example, in the arapesh culture both sexes were considered selfish and aggressive, traits that are defined as masculine. Then, some countries refer to male and female as reverse compared to the united states notion, so no matter what society is thought to be along with the thought of the toys in the podcast gender cannot be defined by sex because of the different meanings and different cultures and societies have different perspectives of what both gender and sex means.
