Ever since I was a child, all I remember is having a peanut allergy. I have been taught not to go near peanuts, and to tell people to not bring peanuts anywhere near me. I have always had this constant reminder that I will most likely never get to taste peanut butter and that I will always be reminded to not go near peanuts. Peanut allergies have always been thought incurable, but there is new hope for the future.

Asthma is an increasingly common problem, and has become the most common chronic childhood disease. Food, food is something that we as human beings live off of. But not everybody is as fortunate as others, nowadays food allergies occur in 1 out of every 13 children. Salad bars in all schools serving low-calorie dressings, lean meats, fruit, and vegetables would help kids reduce their chances of health issues. Furthermore, revisions to the policy from a fast food concept to healthy lunches would benefit kids in numerous ways. Similarly, healthy food equals healthy students both physically and psychologically, while putting the power back in the hands of the parents making decisions instead of companies like Schwan Corporation.

Childhood obesity has now reached an epidemic in several parts of the United States. As a result, children now have a higher risk to have numerous chronic and acute medical problems. Several of the long-lasting medical problems a child might face as a result of obesity could eventually result in death. In addition to chronic medical problems, childhood obesity has severe psychosocial effects on an individual such as low self-esteem and depression. Childhood obesity is a serious problem that is caused by a numerous amount of factors that can eventually lead to severe health complications.

There has been a steady increase in childhood allergies in the past few years. More and more children are presenting signs of allergies ranging from mild to severe. It is important as parents that we educate our children on their allergies and how to handle allergy related emergencies. Food allergies are among the most common allergies that produce severe reactions in children.

Thinking back to Elementary, Middle, and High school, school lunches were not a particularly appealing memory. I remember waiting in the lines, often backed up, holding foam plates of bland and unappealing food.
