Sociopaths are callous, with no sense of empathy, often seeing people as targets and opportunities. The Joker kills multiple people throughout the movie, never showing any regret or pain at what he does. Sociopaths also have a lack of remorse, shame, or guilt. The end, to them, always justifies the means, and they will stop at nothing to achieve their outcome. Sociopaths tend to be unreliable, and are compulsive liars. The Joker thrives on being chaotic and trying to turn the world upside down. At several points during the movie, he explains his origin, but each time tells a different story. Sociopaths also tend to see themselves as a product of society and social factors. They are that way because everything and everyone around them shaped them to be that way. The Joker’s origin stories all revolve around an unfortunate situation giving him his “scars” and slowly transforming him into the monster that he is. The Joker proclaims that one bad day can make anyone like him, and so pushes the blame off of himself for who he
Another common thing that the Joker does is that he attempts to conceal the true reasons for his actions. In other words, the Joker uses defense mechanisms to distance himself from reality as a means to protect himself from the horrid things he has done (Friedman & Schustack, 2009). He demonstrates the specific defence mechanism of rationalization and he does this by trying to justify murdering Harvey Dent's, a pivotal character to the film's plot, girlfriend. He explains to Dent that her death was not his fault and he does such things (i.e., killing innocent people) to show others how pathetic they are for believing that they have control in their lives “ “ (De La Noy & Nolan,
Aside from the separate distinctions of Batman and the Joker, perhaps the most significant and unique aspects of their characters stem from their complex relationship with each other. As quoted by Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker in the 2008 film The Dark Knight, '' This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. " Their relationship largely plays on Batman's sole rule of never killing anyone no matter how dangerous they
He wanted to prove that even someone as good as you could fall. And he was right.” The Joker did not have a game plan to destroy Dent, he merely wanted to prove his theory that everyone has an evil side. The Joker himself stated “Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am?
This scene illustrates the kind of influence that Batman has established over the people of Gotham. The Joker goes on a killing spree he wants Batman to reveal as his true identity to the public. Batman probably wouldn’t have not existed if it weren’t for the Joker. His credibility came into question. Before this, however, Batman gains another powerful ally in the form of district attorney Harvey Dent, who utters the words, “ you either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain.”
But his “non-plan” and him getting “caught” is the work of a mastermind and far from being chaotic or meaningless. Just when you think the good guys (Batman, Lt Gordon, Harvey Dent) have prevailed, the Jokers minute planning comes right back to hurt them in ways they could not imagine, by killing long friend time Rachel Dawes and burning half of Harvey Dent’s face off, thus turning him into
”(Batman: The Killing Joke). Batman when fight with crimes, he fights it with some restrictions, because he believe in justice is for all and all deserve a chance that why he is never willing to kill Joker, and whenever he catches him he put him in the Arkham Asylum. In all the Batman series, it is high lightened that if one wants to make a change in the world he simply can’t fight with rules and ordeals of the world which is conveyed by one of the dialogue by Harvey Dent a.k.a Two- Face to Batman, “You thought we could be decent men in an indecent time. But you were wrong.
The audience should think that the Joker is the worst of the criminals in Gotham because he has no respect for the people helping him with his plans, they are just pawns in his larger scheme. The general audience should know that the Joker is the main villain to Batman, but what this scene shows is that he does not like to work with others because of their differences in goals. The people that were employed by the Joker went blind because of the money they were going to get and failed to realize that they were working for a
When the Joker robbed the bank, it wasn’t for the money. Instead it was just to create disorder, or as Alfred said, “some men just want to watch the world burn”. The Joker begins to commit much larger crimes. The crimes go from trying to have the police commissioner assassinated, to blowing up an entire hospital that has thousands of patients. The Joker having no limits is what makes him one of the most enjoyable
The Joker is the notorious villain in the movie The Dark Knight. He is also known as the archenemy of Batman. The Joker's appearance is portrayed as the psychopathic criminal mastermind with a warped, sadistic sense of humor. The most common story of how the Joker got his appearance is the story involving the Joker falling into a tank of chemical waste which bleaches his skin white, turns his hair green, and leaves his lips bright red;the disfigurement results in driving him insane.
“They can 't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.” – Alfred Pennyworth, The Dark Knight, 2008. He’s known by many names; The Clown Prince of Crime, Killer Clown, Mr. J, but to most he’s simply known as The Joker. Being one of the few villains that are just as popular as their hero, The Joker is a pop culture icon. There’s a dark past and a mysterious history behind one of DC comics most beloved villains. There have been countless stories told and a few actors that have portrayed Batman’s nemesis, but the dark cloud of The Joker’s past remains obscure and incredibly intriguing. This leaves countless loyal fans wondering who’s behind that killer smile.
Joker was a serial killer who killed without the slightest hint of remorse. He would kill his targets using a toxin which was branded Joker Venom. It would cause his subjects to fall into episodes of laughter which was uncontrollable, with higher doses causing them to get paralyzed, fall into a coma or eventually, die. Their faces would be left smiling in a bizarre manner. He is depicted as the only one who knows how to prepare the toxin, making it from common household
Batman saves Commissioner Gordon after he is poisoned with a powerful blood thinner. He then went to the Gotham Reservoir, the first place he faced off against the Joker. He reveals that he has already reenacted his earlier crime, where he kill several people and blew up the reservoir (which then also injured Nightwing). Joker immobilized Batman, and states his plan to kill each of the Bat-family, believing they have made the Batman weak, pathetic. Joker claimed to know their true identities, and planned on eliminating them all, one by
Both of the stories that he told of his past upset the social order and replaced it with his ideals of mindless chaos and injustice. He also gives the illusion of choice. He presents options, but all of them, no matter what an individual or group were to pick, would definitely benefit him. With this illusion, he claims indifference and arrays no instinct for self-preservation. The Joker has no rules, nothing that he’s attached to.
The Joker holds a strength of being persistent in the things he does. He makes sure that his plans will turn out as how he planned it to be. Even though there were complication in between, he makes sure he finds alternatives to get his job done. Take for an example, when the top mob members of the Gotham city were having a meeting discussing about the illegal money stash has been tracked down by the police officers. Joker shows up and proposed a plan to help the mobsters to find a better way to deal with their business in the future which includes in killing Batman and by taking half cut of the money as reward. Because Gambol thinks that the plan was ridiculous, they declined it and threatened to kill The Joker. This however did not stop him. He took the alternative in pretending to be killed by other gang members just so he could get closer to Gambol, to show that he has power to order people to do things for him
Batman is know for having many iconic enemies, but his greatest enemy of all is The Joker. The Joker is a homicidal maniac who has no regards for life. He will murder anyone just to entertain himself, but don’t let his clown make up fool you. The Joker is also very intelligent. The Joker will stop at nothing to destroy the Batman whether it be mentally or
