1. According to Stiggins & Chappuis, what are the five achievement targets of assessment? Provide a definition and an example of each.
a. The five achievement targets of assessment are knowledge, reasoning, performance skills, products, and dispositions. Knowledge is “where mastery includes both knowing and understanding”. An example of knowledge is when a student knows science vocabulary. Reasoning is “the ability to use that knowledge and understanding to figure things out and to solve problems.” An example of reasoning is being able to comprehend a passage that you read. Performance skills are “the development of behavioral or process skills” An example of performance skills is being able to play the trumpet or any kind of instrument. A product is the ability to create something tangible to meet certain standards. An example of a product is a term paper, like the one we just wrote in science class. Dispositions are “the development of attitudes, interests, and motivational intentions that support learning in school.” An example of a …show more content…

2. Consider the lengthy list of guidelines for selected response items (including specific question types) from pages 44-46. Which THREE do you think are the most helpful for pre-service teachers? How will you incorporate these three guidelines into your future classroom?
a. I think the three most helpful guidelines for pre-service teachers to know about writing selected response items are that “the reading level and content difficulty of the item is appropriate for the grade level.” This one is helpful because as a pre-service teacher you may forget that some students are not as strong of readers, so you need to make sure that the test does not turn into a reading test, and instead make sure it covers the content you want it to.
