1. Exchange E-mail Server According to AMD, email servers are read/write intensive, or with a primarily focus on disk usage (Advanced Micro Devices, 2008). Since emails themselves boil down into a file which takes disk space locally, those emails must be stored within the exchange email server located elsewhere. In particular, the back-end exchange servers that facilitate the exchange server generate too much I/O activity for virtual mediums of storage to handle (Advanced Micro Devices, 2008). Without being readily capable of reading and writing appropriately, the server will slow down and perform poorly as it tries to keep up with demand. Much like a damaged hardware on an endpoint PC, every aspect of the system will be affected by its …show more content…

these metrics are geared toward a large SQL server, with considerable resources needed to facilitate a high performance database. Due to the disk utilization, they also recommend primarily a RAID 1+0 configuration or other high performance storage configurations for both the database files and subsystems alike (SolarWinds, n.d.). in summary, databases require considerable resources among all but network throughput to provide timely querying to many users. 3. Web Server (High traffic website) Web servers are characterized mainly by low CPU utilization with spikes during peak periods, with disk performance as a consideration if the website is delivering dynamic content (Advanced Micro Devices, 2008). Traditional web servers only delivered static HTML pages, or pages that had no interactive or data-input elements – merely a send and read operation. Dynamic websites may utilize forms and databases, which would be an additional consideration to a high traffic website. With reference to a Digital Ocean questions and answers forum regarding web server configurations, I see that two six-core Xeon processors and 32GB of RAM is very much so overkill for a webserver that sees an average of 3 million pages views monthly, with an average utilization of below 5% on memory and processing resources (DigitalOcean, 2017). This personal testament reaffirms the low hardware requirements of a high-traffic website, given
