Assignment 2: Ethical and conflict challenges Mukul Sethi 632244 UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE Ethical dilemma Introduction Developing a prognostic system for my client, my team and me have discovered some major bugs that have prevented me to deliver on time. I thought about the situation balancing the pros and cons of the situation and came up with approach to be honest about the situation to my client. I have discussed my opinion about the situation with providing suitable reasons for the same in the following report. Leading by example Although my teammate has suggested me of a dishonest solution, I would never agree with him about the suggestion he made of lying to GP about the product being a demo. …show more content…
Current situation and approach I realize that my team member has thought about my situation and suggested me an alternative solution, which to me is unethical, and I as an individual would never go to a client with a faulty system in place hiding behind an excuse. I have been made aware by my team that their are some major bugs in the system. The major bugs in the system would now require some extra time and also that date of delivery will have to be pushed further ahead. I as a leader have to lead by example and have understood the depth of the situation my team is in and I also have accepted the fact that now the project has to be delayed a couple of more days. To the above problem I would never give my client a faulty system not even in the name of Demo. Firstly, I would understand all the parameters of the situation that is • Nature of the bug • Cause of the bugs. • The expected number of days the bug would take to be corrected. • Process affected due to these bugs. Having all the above vital Information gathered, I would reanalyze the project plan and device another date of delivery. Next, I would try and communicate immediately with the client and fix an appointment with the client (Meet Personally) so as to inform him about the delay and be ready to take the responsibility of

In chapter 2 of the Ethics Primer Svara discusses many important ideas. Some of these included the importance of people who work for the government doing their civic duty , 3 types of ethical reasonings brought up by a student, and Lawrence Kholbergs model of moral judgement. In the book Svara brings up how people in certain roles have a job to do. They must meet the expectations expected of them or they aren’t serving the public in a full capacity. As you read on the 3 types of ethical reasonings are discussed. They are virtue, principle, and to be a public employee. This student I feel has a pretty spot on idea of how people should act. Honesty and following the law are just things ethically sound people should be doing. It doesn't take a genious to understand right from wrong. Finally a major point of the chapter discussed Lawrence Kohlberg and his model of moral judgement. “Lawrence kholberg (1981) offers a model of moral judgement to help understand how the capacity for ethical reasoning develops and explains the motives for acting at different stages of development”.(23) More specifically he gives the six stages of maturity children go through. These being punishment and obedience, instrumental relativist, good boy;nice girl, society maintaining/law and order, social contract, universal ethical
Ethical dilemmas occur when there is a disagreement about a situation and all parties involved question how they should behave based on their individual ethical morals. (Newman & Pollnitz, 2005). The dilemma that I will be addressing in this essay involves Michael, recently employed male educator working in the nursery, and parents of a baby enrolled at the centre. The parents have raised concerns about male educators changing their child’s nappy as they have cultural practices that do not allow this practice to take place. This situation is classed as an ethical dilemma as there is a dispute between cultural beliefs and legal requirements within the workplace. There are four parties involved (parents, child, educator and director), all
Nurses are faced with ethical dilemmas every day. There are a lot of different beliefs surrounding ethics and the code of ethics. Ethics and ethical issues have always existed, that is why they have put in place the code of ethics. The American Nursing Association (ANA) Code of Ethics isa guideline to help nurses determine which course of action to pursue. Every minute many ethical decisions are made, some may not comply with guidelines and others the patient’s will never understand. In this case study the nurse is put in an uncomfortable position and has two find a way to comply with the family, the patient, and the doctor’s orders. How can she report to the doctor the information the daughter has told her? How she approached
1. When discussing stereotypes and race, it is important to recognize how insignificant skin color is. Racism itself if focused mainly on cultural states, and more times than not, whites are considered culturally superior to people of color. The treatment of African Americans and Native Americans in American culture perfectly demonstrate how oppositional dichotomies of race define racial stereotypes. Cultural dominance was set since the first settlers began to participate in the slave trade. While the black slaves looked very different than their white counterparts, it was the culture of these Africans that subjected them to discrimination. Slave owners believed their culture was superior, meaning they could
Is pleasing the customers, and telling them what they might want to hear, more important than being honest with them? When clients ask the company for reports, their main interest should be to get a thorough and comprehensive analysis. If they were only looking for a confirmation of what they wanted to hear, they should not need the research.
* --Is it ethical for an employer to require as a condition of employment or use as a consideration for advancement promotion, that an employee participate in organizations apart from the business (ie. community non-profit organizations)? Does the type or nature of the organization make a difference?
Ethical implications arise when a situation deals with principles of morality and resolution is neither right nor wrong. Because of the stress and emotion ethical dilemmas present us with; steps have been recognized to help work through determination. Although each and every situation is unique, a framework for problem resolution along with laws for ethical situations has taken effect.
The question of what is truly the nature of justice remains an unanswered question as noted by Bertrand Russell in ‘The History of Western Philosophy’ wherein he notes that Socrates was unable to provide a convincing rebuttal of Glaucon’s arguments on justice, and neither have all the social philosophers since, been able to do. Amartya Sen, in his book ‘The Idea of Justice’, has
My partners and I have made a list of areas that might cause the project delays or failure with their respective outcomes. We have listed the risk below that can prevent the project to finish on time.

Chapter eleven of James Svara “The Ethics Primer” was the conclusion to the book and explained to the reader the duties of a public administrator. The jist of this chapter was to help the reader identify and clarify, for anyone who was still confused, what a public administrator was, and how they should conduct themselves. As we read the first three page we are given a list of eleven duties a Public Administrator must abide by. As you read on Svara bangs it into your head just how important acting in an ethical manner is. He explains how someone is an ethical administrator is one who does their duty. The last paragraph wrapped it all up for us when Svara explains how unless a Public Adminstrator is passionate about serving the community in
Step 1: About 7% of the rich world's jobs are held by people from developing countries and an aging population who cannot fill the vacant positions currently available. Lant Pritchett proposal is to have 16 million of the poor became part of a guest worker program. In the United States for example; 3 million guest workers would stay 3 to 5 years, without citizenship. They could not bring their families, but they would have some protection through the certification process for these guest workers.
“Brad is a production engineer at a bicycle company and part of his job includes inspecting broken bikes and drafting the design repairs for their repair” (Bartlett). Brad is considering replacing a broken brake cable with a more durable material, even though the customer did not request it in their order and specifically requested that “No aesthetic changes be made to the bike” (Bartlett). Brad’s manager suggests that his considered actions would go against the company’s policy of “The customer is always right.” Should Brad disobey the manager and the customer to possibly lose his job or go along with
