Australia and the United States have always had a very strong relationship through trade and mainly defence. The security of Australia heavily depends on the US, as we are there main allies in defence. Australia and the US are both apart of an organization called APEC. They both have very important roles as there are classified as the head nations. This organization first started in January 1989 in Australia when current prime minister Bob Hawke called for a more effective economic operation across the Pacific Rim region.

China is out ahead with 29.12% followed by Japan at 19.67, with America sitting quite far back at 3.55%.
With only 3.55% of Australia’s exports going to America, which doesn’t sound like much we, still export $8.85 Billion. We export many different items such as Frozen Bovine Meat 9.13%, Raw Nickel 4.08% and Uranium and Thorium Ore.
America is Australia’s 5th largest trading partner, after the heavy weights of China and Japan. This is mainly due to there location compared to the United States.

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation was founded in 1989 with the aim to manage the growing interconnection and trade between the 21 members and to improve the economic and political links. The APEC is assisting to reduce the costs of importing and exporting goods between the Asia-Pacific countries. The members of the APEC include Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong-China, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, United States, and Vietnam. Together these nations improve the trade between the Asia-Pacific. China still remains Australia’s biggest trading partner. Since Australia’s trade links with the Asia-Pacific have grown, trade accounts for over 42% of the GDP (compared to only 32% in 1990 when relations with the Asia-Pacific were not as strong). Australian trade policies and agreements are focussed primarily on the Asia-Pacific region as eight of the largest export markets are found there. Australia has realised that the Asia-Pacific region is the most important area for trade as geographically it is close and it holds manufactured goods that Australia needs. Members of the APEC now hold over 70% of Australia’s total exporting and importing of goods and services. The rise of China’s influence on the world due to such advances in technology has influenced Australia to trade more with countries around the Asia-Pacific. Australia’s continued trading with the Asia-Pacific has helped to push Australia’s economic
In 2004 according to a report America’s imported as much as Japan, Germany, China and India combined.
Another prospect is Australia’s mineral resources. Australia is predicted to be holding much of iron ore, coal etc. This means that we are on top of vast resources that can be sold to other countries. Japan would benefit as it purchases a large amount of our coal and iron ore. This advantage could also be used to lever a FTA with the Japanese. The infinite capabilities of Japanese technology would allow Australia to keep up with the world in many areas. Of course, most of these are technologically related.
Along with New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Malaysia and Singapore, Australia is party to the Five Power Defence Arrangements, a regional defence agreement. A founding member country of the United Nations, Australia is strongly committed to multilateralism and maintains an international aid program which supports around 60 countries today, quite amazing right?Calculations made during 2005-2006 shows that Australia is giving about A$2.5 billion every year to developing countries. Australia ranks 15th overall in the Center for Global Development's 2012 Commitment to Development Index.
Australia is the smallest continent however 6th largest country. Australia has a population of approximately 20 million people and we spend approximately 13 million dollars on the Security and Defence of our country. Whilst The United States of America has a larger population of approximately 300 million people and spends excessive amounts in the tune of approximately 400 billion to secure the Safety of its country. When is comes to labeling the Defence and Security of countries around the world America is know as having the world’s only “Superpower” whilst Australia is known as “Middle Power” when is comes to defence resources and military reinforcements.

Australia has several ties with other countries. These ties are established in several ways, one of which is through trade. The nature of trade includes exporting and importing goods and services which form trade links with partner countries. Trade comes with its advantages and disadvantages. Australia also takes part in multilateral agreements, such as APEC, to be able to strengthen trade links.
The last few decades has seen the increase of Australia’s position and influence around the world. This is due to the joint operations and activities that the Australian and American army participates in. The significance of joint training operations creates an ideal position for Australia in terms of security and integration. As well as this, the US has a powerful and technologically advanced military base. Australia benefits from this alliance as it provides resources for personnel performance and military equipment, which would otherwise by
Since the colonisation of Australia in 1788, Australia 's links with the rest of the world were increased, especially in the aspects of trade. Historically, Australia 's top trading partners are located in Europe, but after the events of World War II, Australia has expanded its amount of trade partners, the nations it decides to trade with, and the commodities imported and exported. While trade can be highly beneficial, it has the potential to be detrimental to Australian society. An example of a trading link that Australia is currently involved in is the bilateral trade agreement between the US (AUSFTA).
On the other hand, Exports are domestically produced goods and services sold in other countries. The United States exports the most services in the world. Most of these services include financial, and professional business services as well as other knowledge intensive services, which is highly requested in other countries. Travel, tourism, and transportation are also a major export. The United States are the leading importers of goods and services in the world and 80% of total imports bought to the United States are goods. The other 20% are services and mostly financial services as well as travel and transportation.
