Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autistic children experience the world a lot more differently than others. For example, children with autism are not capable of using words, and have a hard time communicating in general by any means. Specific sounds, like loud crashes and yelling, would bother an autistic child that wouldn’t normally bother a child that wasn’t autistic. We need to learn more about autism so we can handle it, as it is the fastest growing developmental disease in the United States.
Autism affects 1 in 150 children in the United States alone, as well as children all over the world. The rate at which the disease is growing is the fastest ever recorded. Rising at a

population every minute. Autism can also cause Tuberous Sclerosis; a disease that causes non-cancerous tumors to grow in the brain and other organs. One to four percent of children with autism have this disease, which is approximately anywhere from 31,903 to 127,612 children. Autism really is the fastest growing disease due to the increasing population numbers and the children that already have the disease. (“Facts & Statistics”, par. 2,4,5,6)
Early diagnosis and treatment helps young children with autism develop to their full potential. The primary goal of treatment is to improve the overall ability of the child to function.
Symptoms and behaviors of autism can combine in many ways and vary in severity. Also, individual symptoms and behaviors often change over time. For these reasons, treatment strategies fit to individual needs and family resources. But children in general with autism respond best to highly structured and specialized treatment. A program that addresses helping parents and improving communication, social, behavioral, adaptive, and learning aspects of a child 's life will be most successful. (“ASD Treatment & Management, par. 1, 2)
While there is no actual cure for ASD, doctors can prescribe medicine and recommend a number of classes to take to help cope. One of those classes being, Behavioral Training & Management. Behavioral training and management uses positive reinforcement, self-help, and social skills training to improve behavior

The first three years of a child’s life is the most important and central time for the brain’s development. Autism is a disorder that can be diagnosed during the infant or toddler stage. Children can be diagnosed with autism by having different impairments such as social interaction, pattern of behavior, eye contact and speech impairment. Having the child being diagnosed with ASD can change a parent’s life view. Parents can learn different things in order to help their child. Parents will be provided by health providers different treatment, different placement in education and knowing about the different risk factor to make a difference for their autistic child now and in the future.
Autism is one of the most common disorders among children in the United States. Autism affects 1 in 68 children (Center for Disease Control, 2014). By comparison, this is more children than are affected by diabetes, AIDS, cancer, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy or Down syndrome – combined (Autism Speaks, 2012). Boys are four times more likely to have autism than girls. This disorder typically appears during the first three years of life.
Envision living in a foreign country and not knowing the language and the customs. Imagine having songs linger inside of your head and never going away. Pretend the slightest sounds being extremely overwhelming. These are just some examples of the difficulties that individuals with autism may encounter on a daily basis. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2014), 1 in 68 children are identified with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. With the prevalence of these disorders being at an all time high, there is a pressing need for highly trained professionals who are concerned about the well being of those who are affected.
Autism is affecting children of the U.S.at a rate of one out of every 68.Meaning one out of 68 children will be diagnosed with ASD. This disorder occurs more often among boys than girls. ASD affects over 3 million individuals in the U.S. Statistics show that the number of people diagnosed has increased by 17% within a year. There is no explanation, Scientists do not know the cause nor is there a cure for ASD. However it is definitely on the rise. It is unknown whether the growing number shows a real increase or is the sudden increase as a result of improved detection by physicians.
In todays society, the most useful “cure” for autism is behavioral therapy and language therapy. As I noted above, behavioral therapy helps replace bad habits. Language therapy helps the patient speak and understand how to communicate with others.
In the United States today, the fastest-growing disability that deals with development is autism(Facts). Autism Spectrum Disorder can be described as “a condition or disorder that begins in childhood and that causes problems in forming relationships and in communicating with other people(Webster).” Although the number of children diagnosed with autism is on the rise, there are many different levels of autism, which can affect how the cases are dealt with. Autism has no cure, but by informing the world, it can help to prepare an autistic child for the future that they hold.
Since 2000, the prevalence of autism has increased by nearly 120 percent: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this makes autism the fastest-growing developmental disability in the U.S. http://www.autism-society.org/what-is/facts-and-statistics/ A March 27, 2014 announcement http://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2014/p0327-autism-spectrum-disorder.html from the CDC states that autism impacts 1 in 68 children across the nation.
Children With Autism Children with autism have the possibility to improve greatly, and some even overcome the effects of autism if appropriate therapies are begun early enough. A multifaceted disorder, autism has long baffled professionals and parents alike. At a point in time, doctors gave parents absolutely no hope for the recovery of their children. But recently, new treatments and therapies have shown that improvement is possible. With early intervention, intensive care, some children have if not fully recovered, improved, and have been integrated into schools, indistinguishable from their peers.
The topic that I have chosen to write about is Autism. Have you heard about it? I am sure you may know someone who suffers from this disease, but do you really know what it is, or its causes and effects? That is what I am going to explain to you. Autism is a disability that affect young children, and we need to understand the symptoms, treatments, and what it is like to live with this disorder.
Autism affects everyone who has it and everyone around them. This disease can be found in people all around the world. It affects people of all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups. Between 1 in 150 children are diagnosed with autism. This disorder occurs four times more in boys than girls. There are As many as 1.5 million Americans that are affected with autism today. The statistics show that the rate of autism is rising between 10 and 17 percent each year. According to the CDC of the approximate four million infants born every year and 24,000 of them will be diagnosed as autistic (Who Does Autism Affect? para 1 & 2).
Autism is a developmental disability that affects all areas of behavior and perception. Approximately 10 out of every 10,000 children are diagnosed with autism and four out of five are males. Autism is the third most common developmental disability, more common than Down Syndrome. Children with Autism are characterized by impairment in several areas of development such as: Cognitive, Language, Play/Socialization skills and exhibit many challenging behaviors. Behavior Patterns of Autism:
Autism is on the rise. Many researchers feel the reasons isn’t because there are more kids being afflicted with it, but the increased public awareness has allowed this disorder to be more easily recognized and diagnosed at a earlier age.
The United States is in the midst of a tragic epidemic of autism. An analysis of the US Department of Education data from 1992-1993 in comparison to 2000-2001 indicates that there has been an average increase of 644% among all US children. (www.autismsociety.org) Recent studies in the Journal of the American Medical Association and Pediatrics have confirmed the autism epidemic is real and not due to changes in diagnosis, population
There are many diseases and disorders that plague today’s society, but one of the most serious of those disorders is autism. Autism is not nearly as widely known as the familiar Down’s Syndrome, yet, surprisingly, autism is far more widespread. In fact, autism is the third most common developmental disability, affecting 400,000 people worldwide (Autism Society of America). As of yet there is no cure for this debilitating disorder, only a variety of treatments.
