Because Mazda not only wants to ensure low prices on their vehicles, this new engine’s production line will be very effective and efficient. Mazda understands that the supply chain of this engine has to have very little to no flaws if a profit will be made. Mazda will look to local companies and manufacturers for the parts to create to engine to ensure lowest cost possible to build the engine. Because Mazda has a production center, adding to the center for this engine type was not too costly. Mazda was able to use current employees to move into the production line and leadership team for this new division.
Major Issues and Opportunities A major issue or opportunity would be the ability to maintain excellence and a competitive edge against other companies with hybrid engines. The hybrid model can be costly so Mazda will need to continue to look for ways to keep production costs low so the vehicle purchase price is affordable. The first research question is ‘How can Mazda maintain an affordable selling price with a hybrid engine?’ The best way to understand how this can be done is to evaluate the purchasing of the parts

The last several years were also tumultuous for the U.S. auto industry. After dominating the market for decades, American automakers had grown complacent about product development. At the same time, rising gas prices and uncertainty about the economy caused consumer preferences to shift from SUVs to more fuel efficient vehicles. Foreign competitors entered the U.S. market offering more reliable, higher quality and more fuel efficient vehicles at a lower price and began to steal market share away from American automakers. In order to remain competitive, U.S. automakers need to focus on increasing production efficiencies and developing innovative product offerings. Firm Analysis
Industry analysts say US hybrids are just token models, not a legitimate attempt to get into the market. The reason for hybrid introduction has to do with Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) regulations. Current standards say that average mileage of the fleet of cars sold by an automaker should be 27.5 mpg. This means that if an automaker sells one hybrid car that gets 60 mpg, it can then sell four less efficient cars, like SUVs and trucks that only get a poor 20 mpg.
First introduced in the 20th century, hybrid cars are expected to become the new generation of transportation in the future. These vehicles run on fossil fuels, gasoline, electricity, or a combination of those ones. Using “green energies” leads to a wide variety of advantages, including reduced dependence on oil, stabilized fuels’ economy, and lowered greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and wastes discharged to the environment. Engineers, nowadays, have been spending a lot of effort on building and consolidating hybrid technology, so they are able to advance its performance, safety for customers, affability to the ecosystem, and especially the impacts of the hybrid on the auto industry. This paper provides some current studies on hybrid car and its effects on the environment, market.
Okuda saw the need for hybrid cars long before the world demanded them. He started the engine technology that would allow for the world to have fuel efficiency and zero emission cars. Okuda believe innovation was the way to success, that’s why he introduce to the world is first mass-market petroleum-electric hybrid car, the Prius (Frederick 2004). He believes in making the environment better and cleaner, so he moved forward with is project on inventing the hybrid car the Prius which is immersive popular in the market now. Automotive Industry Most people drive a car every day, some have driven one their whole life, but what do we know of the automotive industry? It will be the goal of this paper to discuss four different environment challenges of the automotive industry. What is the global competitiveness of the auto industry? What new technologies are coming out to push the industry into a newer and newer high-tech world? Do vehicles cause environmental concerns, and what does the government have to say about it? What are the opinions of the consumers about the vehicles they buy? What is the global competitiveness of the auto industry? There are six main manufactures of vehicles today. The six main manufactures are Toyota, Volkswagen, Daimler, Ford, Honda, GM. The fight is real, in one article the writer says this, “Japanese automakers Toyota (TM) and Honda (HMC) have among the highest margins in the business at 13.8% and 13.1%, respectively. In contrast, General Motors (GM) has a relatively lower margin of 8.5%. Ford (F) has an EBITDA margin of 8.2%.” (Kallstrom) These margins of profit are where there at because of competition. Kallstrom later writes competition makes it difficult to pass the raw material prices onto the customer. Also, with every changing standards on safety and emissions auto industries need to stay up to date to say in the game. What new technologies are in the automotive industry? In Forbes magazine an article was written about the next big advancements in car
Hybrid car is the one that utilize more than one means to power the vehicle. Toyota started manufacturing hybrid cars decades before, still more people are not interested to buy it.
