Before, when an essay is assigned, I usually begin by free writing. Free writing is a technique in which a person writes continuously without worrying about spelling, grammar, or topic. Once I have brainstormed, I put it all together and organize them in a clean way. After I have finished my rough draft, I reread it multiple times, adding, changing, and deleting anything I believe can be improved. Once I think I have done the best I can, I write my final.
Recently, my teacher has given me advice and helpful points on becoming a better writer. Writing is not a task that can get better over night; writing is an art. We learn by mimicking the professionals, and making it into our own interpretation. I have learned that when writing an essay, you
Upon entering Columbia College, writing was one of my weaker areas. It was very important that I gained the necessary knowledge and confidence to become a better writer. I didn’t know how to express myself and felt as though my writing was not my interest. As a result of taking English 101, I have gained a better understanding on how to properly research and build a satisfactory paper. Every paper that was assigned seemed like a struggle to complete. Before entering this class, I did not know the meaning of a thesis or why it was important, however, I obtained this skill quickly. I noticed that every paper has an argument and the thesis helps clarify the rebuttal. Now, I have a new outlook on writing. It’s a way to express my thoughts and allow others to see things through my eyes. There is no doubt that I still have a long way to go, but I know if I continue to write, I will get better. Just as I developed more skills in class, the various papers assigned helped to better structure the writer in me. In addition, the subject areas were not only interesting, but very informative and made it much easier to write about my experiences.
I pride myself on being a curious person who always wanted to discover what was happening in the world around me, I would always ask myself why did this happen? How? Which lead me in becoming a creative writer. I enjoy the challenge of making people want to read what I write. I choose the right words to intrigue my readers; it is a pleasure to take them on an adventure, as I can use my pen to sway their emotions with every line I form which lead me in creating my own journal. I am also determined person once I have a goal, I will pursue it until I achieve it. I still remember when our school held a short story competition during twelfth-grade and I told my classmates that I was going to participate. They all started laughing at me saying
It is essential to understand that classes taken in grade school do not give students a full understanding of each subject. With the topic of writing, there will always be a new lesson to learn, an aspect to improve, or a differing way to explain. Author Craig Vetter states in Bonehead Writing, “This is your enemy: a perfectly empty sheet of paper. Nothing will ever happen here except what you make happen.” Each story, essay, or response comes from a writer’s experiences. With each attempt at a new piece comes an underlying story of emotions the writer is facing. Each person’s writing is unique and the ideas people have are related to their past experiences and what they believe to be familiar with when deciding which writing style to use. As a high school student, I have learned many things about writing that helped me become the improved writer I am today, but the most essential advice I have received is practice makes perfect. Although there is no actual perfect way of writing, I have discovered that each essay I write, my writing improves. It is easier to spot mistakes, find areas to improve, and ponder elevated word choice to use.
A semester has passed since I started college and my journey of becoming a better writer. It has been a very important semester for my future college career, and I would not be here without the things I have accomplished. The composition program has really helped me to prepare for what college writing is all about. Now standing here and looking back I could not imagine how it would be without that class. I believe my English, and my writing is better than it has ever been, and all thanks to the composition program.
When beginning to write an essay everyone has their own method of doing so. Some may like to brainstorm while others may prefer to go straight into writing about their topic. I personally beginning every essay by collecting ideas about my topic before coordinating them into a type of diagram, next I proceed to do my rough draft before revising over the paper and finally composing my final draft. The point of the writing process is to help break everything down so ideas can be organized and everything can make perfect sense for not just the writer but also the reader.
From writing thoughtful poems to research papers, I have experienced composing a diverse portfolio of literary analysis and criticisms throughout the school year. I started out the year writing minimally. By the end of the year, I noticed I was able to express my ideas and thoughts in a more clear and concise way on paper. Ultimately, each composition allowed me to widen my horizons as a writer and see how I could improve as a writer.
The first step in your writing process is to just sit and think. If your essay is on an assigned topic, sit and think about what approach you will have to the subject, if it’s possible to take a position on it. If you are allowed to decide on the topic, you can take it in any direction and decide on a purpose. This purpose can be to tell someone how to do something, present information you have collected on your favorite subject, or even entertain the audience who will be reading it. Once who have brainstormed some ideas, examine each

If you were to type in “writing is…” into a search bar, the first suggestion that would pop up would be “writing is hard.” In many ways it can be, writing is an outlet to put all your personal thoughts and experiences onto a paper for all to see and criticize is nerve- racking. For any person writing can be a struggle to piece together their thoughts into coherency, but it is all part of the bigger process. Writing can help you convey what you truly believe and let your creativity run free through putting a part of yourself into your work. It is a way to let out any powerful emotions about something that is happening in your life in a healthy, almost therapeutic way. This idea of revealing your true self for your work can be seen in Leon Uris’s quote that states,” You can lie to your wife or your boss but you cannot lie to your typewriter sooner or later you must reveal your true self in your pages.” The author uses the typewriter as a metaphor for an object you can confide in and not lie to much like a diary.

My writing skills have never been satisfactory. I haven’t had a lot of experiences requiring me to write outside of my own personal writing. Recently my writing skills have increased when I started attending Central Ohio Technical College, January 2017. I enrolled to obtain my Registered Nursing for Nursing Technology. My first semester there I took Integrated Reading and Writing, and I learned a lot. My knowledge for writing grew tremendously. I would now consider myself a adequate writer.
When writing an essay, I would begin by understanding the genre or purpose of the writing assignment and knowing who will read my essay. Brainstorming and organizing all the details or ideas, examples, comes next. I gather my evidence based on my personal experience or by conducting a research from a trusted source. I never counted how many drafts I usually write, but I usually end up writing several drafts before I'm satisfied. I find
