Becoming A Successful President

Being one of only two President whose fathers were former President, George W. Bush had big shoes to fill. To establish himself as a separate person, Bush did his best to publicly distance from his families privilege life. Although this in did not apply to all aspects of his presidency, Bush handled both foreign and domestic affairs in a way he thought to be most successful for the nation.

The modern presidency of the United States has become a powerful institution. Most if not all the people in the United States know who the president is. The president has become a celebrity of sorts throughout history, and with that status rising the president have become more powerful. However, as the old saying goes, with the great power comes great responsibility.

Since Reagan experienced such a successful presidency, due to his conservative policies accomplishing their goals, many liberal-minded people switched their views. After the conservative success of the early and mid-eighties, the amount of people who views themselves as liberals decreased. In a 1996 poll, “only 10 percent of Democratic voters identified themselves as ‘liberals’—that is, people who want economic redistribution” (Hannaford). This fact itself showed that people who once believed in the power of the government and free spending to help stabilize the economy, either acquired a more moderate approach of less government interference or switched to a conservative view of limited government or controlled spending. Being the leader of the free world is an accomplishment that citizens of the United States see as job with a vast amount of responsibility. Along with the responsibility comes great scrutiny. Presidents have come and gone, leaving a legacy that either creates a lasting memory of great leadership, or leaves a bad taste in the mouth of American voters. Leading the way in the land of the free is judged by three points: how the president chose to conduct themselves during controversial times, critical situations, and most importantly how they plan to help the citizens of the United States.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, but it was built on leadership skills, and Rome flourished when under strong leadership of its great emperors. The American presidency is no different. Leading the executive branch of the United States government requires a finesse that not everyone possesses. There are several types of leadership, and a mix of them is needed to create the best functioning and smoothly running executive branch. As such, the way we evaluate presidents must also be done through different approaches. The way we judge presidents changes over time as, sometimes looking back subtleties that were missed are uncovered but generally, the overall opinion of a president does not shift greatly, even over time.

The Presidency of the United States. It’s obviously a very important position, probably the most important position in the world and We, the People, get to elect him or her into office every 4 years.

The presidency of the United States has gone through a transformation in the ability to direct the nation and preform executive actions to help shape the country. Well renowed political sciencetist and author, Stephen Skowronek mentions in his book The Poltics Presidents Make, a presidents main priority is to be agents of political change who depend on prior presidencies to help guide their policy agenda for their respective term. Unlike Bill Clinton or other preemptive presidents, President Obama used his initial term to fix the ongoing problems from that of the Bush administration. He clearly put his ambitions for the nation aside just to combat what was at hand. Due to this, Obama is best categorized as a reconstructive leader who was chosen by the American populate to change the system put in place by the George W. Bush and to build a new political regime. Starting right from his campaign, President Obama fought to distance himself from the previous era that showed to be a major disappointment to the American citizens. Obama sought to make a new reconstructive period for the United States. Clearly not a “hard case,” President Obama has taken advantage of all his resources in the opening years of his first term in office in order to revamp the political landscape of America.

Stephen Skowronek attemeped to answer the question that many historians, and people alike, always have trouble answering: what makes a president a good president? Skowronek looks at all the presidents over the course of American history and puts them into one of four classifications. Skowronek looks, in detail, that the presidency of both Clinton and W.Bush. President Barack Obama does not have a classification in this book, so we will attempt to assign him a category based on his work. The American Presidency entails more than meets the eye, and Skowronek is trying to categorize presidents based on more than just what the public sees.

In order to be a great leader you must meet certain expectations and characteristics. A large population of people will be relying on you. The most important characteristics for a leader to have include being strong, being knowledgeable, and having experience. These are all critical to not only a leader but in general to being a good person. These qualities in a leader make you successful. If you are not strong or knowledgeable then no one would want you as a leader. The population wouldn't believe you could maintain order or be smart enough to be making big decisions. Without experience your not going to know what you can do to the best of your ability. You are also most likely not gonna realize just how difficult it is to be a leader. A leader must be strong, knowledgeable, and have experience in order to be successful in the throne.

With the presidential elections coming up in November, it is important for the people to know how the process works and how one can become the President of the U.S.

What makes a person a great president? This is a question that could have many different answers depending on which political party one belongs to. Recently, the election of our new president has caused protests and rioting in our country. Many people say he does not know anything about politics and are unsure of whether or not he will make a great president for our country. We will take a look at one of the former presidents of the United States to see what people thought about how he did as our leader. First, we will be taking a look at his early life as a child and his life before presidency. Next, we will be discussing his political philosophy and beliefs, and his legacy as our leader. Finally, we will look at what his life was like after he had served as president and also how America thought he did overall as president.

"The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things."(Daskal) Past president Ronald Regan said it best, describing what it takes to be a genuine overseer for our country America. The definition of a president is defined as a person who is appointed to lead over an organized group of people. The opinionated definition, however, produces a wide variety of meanings. To one citizen it can denote desiring a leader who gives them access to government benefits that they believe they should legitimately be given. To another, it can imply wanting a president who can help improve minimum wage as a means to keep one good paying job instead of three. Current presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is a prime example of someone who can take on this role.

     What does a leader look like? Well that’s simple they are tall, handsome, intelligent, Caucasian, and rich. They have beautiful wives and spend most of their time in the Bahamas on an enormous yacht. Now look again, minus the stereotypes. What does a leader really look like? Leaders come in all shapes, sizes, races, genders, and ages. Leaders can be found anywhere doing anything no matter how important or how routine the task. Leadership by definition is the ability to influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute to the effectiveness and success of the organizations of which they are members (McShane, S.L., & Von Glinow, M.A, 2005). This is the accepted definition

America’s sixth president, John Quincy Adams, defined leadership this way: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” I agree that effective leadership is distinguished by four critical qualities: passion, vision, emotional intelligence, and confidence. Leaders who possess these qualities are able to make a positive impact on their institution—as Adams did, improving American life through his strong hand on the wheel of the ship.

Leadership traits have been studied to determine what makes certain people great leaders. There is no right way to be a great leader, there are many ways to be a good leader however, studies have shown that all good leaders have similar characteristics. Good leaders are able to recognize problems and opportunities, they can develop a vison and an implementation plan to carry out their vison. They understand that teamwork and the right people are vital in obtaining their end goal. All of the above are specific traits that tie good leaders together. An interesting subject to look at when examining leadership styles is Donald Trump. Trump has always been known for his leadership style throughout the business industry. He has excelled through
