A British actress named Hannah Murray once said, “I really loved animals when I was little - my friend and I had an imaginary vet 's office; we would mime doing surgery on animals. We treated more injuries than illnesses - fixing with a baby bear with a broken leg, removing a tumor. Of course, our surgeries would take about five seconds; that 's how good we were.” As far back as one girl can remember, she always had a pet of some kind. She currently has a pet dog, and she became sick, and would have seizures. When her mom and took her to the Vet’s office, she remembers how the doctor saved her dog’s life and how grateful she and her mother were to not lose a member of our family. Veterinarians can choose from different specialties for a career path. Even though choosing to specialize in large animal care is less lucrative than becoming a companion animal vet, there are many reasons to still choose it as a career. Unfortunately, there is currently a shortage of large animal veterinarians. There are several factors that contribute to this shortage, including financial, large rural areas and physical challenges. Veterinarians who care for livestock are important for the production of food and any shortages of these veterinarians may have a negative effect on agriculture.

A veterinarian, a professional that treats animal health problems, is a career I yearn to pursue, due to the opportunity to keep any animal surviving, the ability to receive a high salary, and the chance to work with animals all the time. I have been interested in the veterinary field since I was seven years old. When I was seven, I had a german shepherd who was very sick. I went to the vet with her and I sat through the whole appointment. It was extremely hard for me when they told me that she had to be put down. It is very hard to see animals suffer in pain for a long time. Even though putting animals down is tough, sometimes euthanasia may be the easiest and best way to put animals out of misery. Since then, I have had a major interest

Imagine that you walk into the O.R. of your own veterinary clinic, and you see a horse that you will be operating on. The horse is under anesthesia, because she was trying to give birth, then two hours in the owners of the horse decided it would be best to get the horse to an equine veterinarian as quick as possible, because this horse isn’t able to push the colt out on its own. So, you walk in and you start seeing what you can do for the six-year-old mare, however you can’t do anything for the mare, owner, or the colt, except just to deliver the colt as a stillbirth. This scenario is one out of many challenges veterinarians face on a day to day basis. To become a veterinarian, you need to understand the responsibilities that come along with being one, the job securities as a veterinarian, and the different opportunities that come with being a male or a female veterinarian.

The only jobs that interest me having things to do with animals, peoples healthcare just doesn’t interest me enough to make a career of out it. The two careers that interest me the most is either a veterinarian, or something in aquaculture. To be a veterinarian, you have to have your bachelors in biology, zoology, chemistry, animal sciences, and so on. After your bachelor’s you are required to apply and attend veterinary school which is another 4 years, after you will be required to take and pass a state test before you are permitted to practice. Veterinarians are often required to specialize in different areas and different animals such as, cardiology, oncology, aquatics, reptiles, exotics, and so on. To work in aquaculture it is recommended that you have a bachelor's in biology, it is not advised you major in Marine Biology because if you do you are allowed only to work with marine life, biology is a more broad major that doesn’t limit you to

I plan to achieve this by earning an Animal Science degree, then completing OSU's Veterinary Medicine program to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Throughout the course of my schooling I will continue to volunteer my time at animal shelters and work in the veterinary field to further prepare myself for my career.
