Being keen on establishing how I am suited in starting up a business, it would make sense for one to first establish their entrepreneurial profile. From a personal perspective, this would establish a platform of maintaining the noted strengths and leveraging the noted weaknesses. This prompts the need to focus on the established 3600 feedback. According to the scores in feedback provided, social orientation emerge as my only strong area when compared with the industry standard, even though not higher when compared with friends. Aware of the significant role that contacts plays in entrepreneurship, this is an attribute I ought to exploit. Particularly in the initial phases of business growth, the contacts would assume a big role in kick-starting the business. Moving from the strong areas, my need for power profile was rated reasonably strong and the lowest among my friends. Genuinely, this is spot on considering the urge to be in charge that I have is rarely enhanced by actions to make that possible. The hesitance in imposing my will against others ends up limiting my influence. With this in mind, focus needs to develop strategies of imposing myself to others. Key to this is to come up with convincing ides and goals that motivate others to support what I am doing. In addition to need for power, endurance is another that I was found to be reasonably strong. However, I was still rated the lowest. Such a score is particularly disturbing considering the critical role endurance
As I have mentioned above, that achiever, strategic, learner, belief, and responsibility are my top five themes as revealed by StrengthsFinder. I was astounded and amazed after reading the detail description of my personal five themes, because these are the most consistent behaviors that I display in my daily personal and professional life. I think this assessment is reliable and trustworthy, because the result provided on the bases of my responses drew an accurate picture of my strengths.
After reading these results of the VIA Survey of Character Strengths I believe it reflected what I also thought of myself. It is not only important to be assessed to have these traits, it is also necessary to let them be incumbent in my personality so as to really captivate the people I have to lead to success.
My top strength identified was the Achiever theme. Achiever describes the need for constant achievement. Achievers have the capacity and the drive to keep taking on new challenges and strive toward new goals (Rath, 2007). This description is accurate in that I enjoy a new challenge and like to keep busy working towards anything with some sort of successful outcome. I welcome the opportunity to do something better, more perfectly, or more complete which motivates me to a higher level (Rath, 2007).
Gallup’s (2017) StrengthsQuest assessment lists my five greatest strengths as competition, achiever, learner, input, and strategic. After reviewing the detailed descriptions of these strengths, I am confident that I can successfully apply these skills to my job as an investigator and further develop my capacity in leadership. Before taking this survey, I was certain that focus would be among my five greatest strengths, but after considering the book’s description of the achiever theme, I am convinced of the accuracy of this evaluation. Outlined below is my interpretation of these talents, their intrinsic drawbacks, and several illustrations of how they have helped me achieve success. I have also included a few examples of how I can implement
Upon completion of the StrengthsFinder survey, I discovered that my five greatest strengths were Achiever, Discipline, Responsibility, Relator, and Competition. However, I was skeptical about the initial results until I read what each strength entails. I found most of the information given to be accurate. According to the description of those strengths, I discovered that I use them daily without realizing it.
Considering the results of the VIA Strengths Survey I participated in seven short weeks ago, if there were someone with my identical scores, I would offer to them, the strategies that have helped me. After reviewing my results, I agreed with possessing these traits but not with the ranking order. To help this person, I would first find out how they felt that their strengths should be ranked and then assess what it would take to get them to that point. We would contrive a strategy and timeline to move from their currently ranked position to the idealistic ranking.
Tom Rath began working with a group of scientists in 1998 to start a conversation about our strengths (Rath, 2007). A 40-year study, led by Donald O. Clifton, helped to create a language of common talents, and in 2001, included this assessment into their bestselling management book Now, Discover Your Strengths (Rath, 2007). During their study, they found out that “people who do have the opportunity to focus on their strengths every day are six times as likely to be engaged in their jobs and more than three times as likely to report having an excellent quality of life in general” (Rath, 2007, pg. iii). A major problem with this was a majority of people were either unsure of or unable to explain their strengths (Rath, 2007). When developing StrengthFinder 2.0, the ultimate goal was to build upon your true strengths which take practice and hard work (Rath, 2007).
When one thinks of the word “strong,” he or she thinks about weightlifting, muscles, and physically demanding tasks. But when I hear the word “strong,” I think of power, or what makes one powerful. What makes me powerful are the qualities that further build me up as a person. The StrengthsFinder Inventory identifies my powerful qualities through my top five themes, which are Significance, Achiever, Responsibility, Focus, and Relator. My Signature Themes present my five most prevailing themes of talent, in the rank order revealed by my responses to the StrengthsFinder Inventory. They are very important because they can ultimately lead to my successes in the near future. Who says being physically fit is what makes me stronger? My strengths
I was very nervous to begin my self-assessment from the reading assignment. I am not one to point out my weaknesses, but this self-assessment was very helpful in determining which areas I need to better myself. I have learned I am scaled as “Good” in categories such as listening, critical thinking, planning, prioritizing, and organization. I am scaled as “Okay” in areas such as writing, speaking, seeking support from others, focusing, and ability to change.
As humans, and particularly individuals, we all have personal strengths that we bring to our interactions with others as well as areas that perhaps need some more time and attention in order to improve upon them. In this journal, I’ll be focusing on four areas of strength I believe I have, as well as four areas the require further growth and personal change.
Influencing strategies exercise self-assessment questionnaire show me my areas of strength and needing improvement. The result of this exercise forces you to think of ways to improve strategies. Looking at the scores, and see the actual areas I am strength was quite surprising. This is telling me that I really do now know my worth. The following are my scores.
Starting a business is the latest trend. Just take a look at Instagram. Several profiles have the caption ‘Entrepreneur’. At this very moment, there is someone, somewhere working on an idea, a business plan or launching a startup. Entrepreneurship is on the rise like never before. The flexibility and independence that comes with being one’s own boss is attractive and worth taking the leap in starting a business. However, most people don’t know that being an entrepreneur is a grueling journey that can be very lonely and stressful at times. According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), 50% of businesses fail during the first year. Starting a business can be a scary task, but the
The purpose of writing this report is to show how much I have learned and experience from enrolling in BBA 220. It is also include the impression and my personal reflection about the unit itself, and also the reflection about group project. Before I start this unit, I do not understand much about entrepreneur and entrepreneurship at all. I just know that people who do business are businessmen. However, after joining this unit, my understanding toward entrepreneur become different. Entrepreneur is someone who is willing to take risk by inventing a new business that does not exist in the market or start up their own business to make profit or take benefit of an opportunity. On the other hand, according to Joseph Alois Schumpeter (1883-1950),
Explain and critically analyze unique traits of an Entrepreneur, discuss these related to personal strengths and weaknesses
There has been extensive research conducted on the characteristics that successful entrepreneurs possess. These attributes vary widely across literature, however there are common key traits that are required to achieve any form of success. Frederick et al (2013) suggest entrepreneurs are risk takers, optimistic, have sound judgement and an ability to manage. While a review of literature relating to the psychology of an entrepreneur reveals a large variety of characteristics in a successful entrepreneur, these can be consolidated to a a few into only a few traits that are essential for a successful entrepreneur. Whilst taking into
