Brian M - Brian began his speech with a little background about sex. It allowed him to gain the attention of his audience right away. He used his Powerpoint very nicely when he previewed his main points, as well as, proceeding into each of his other points. His gestures and pacing gave emphasis to his age-appropriate sex topics and about the program itself. His life experiences made his audience feel in the direction of what he is feeling. Throughout his Powerpoint presentation, he transitioned very well to keep the attention of his audience. In the end, he had a strong ending by wanting people to speak out about sex.
Sunjay - In the beginning of Sunjay’s speech, he jumped right into talking about his topic. This topic being why police should get training. One of his concerns was if they update training, it would help interact safety with others. His gestures were appropriate, which helped to emphasize why this strongly needs to be dealt with in order to control the public 's safety. His research was not as credible as it should of been because he did not cite them. Overall, he did have a strong ending by urging people that something does need to change in order for police to receive proper training, so less unnecessary interactions with people can occur.
Jessica R - Jessica’s topic was dependence on prescription drugs. During her speech, she said,” It negatively affects the body if the body does not get it.” Her point here is that it causes an addiction. Throughout her
Society in Aldous Huxley’s novel, Brave New World was an exaggerated society of the United States during the 1920s. These extreme societal boundaries were unknowingly predicting the future. Brave New World developed a liberal trend toward materialistic views on physical pleasure. Throughout the novel, there was dependence on science for reproduction, open-minded views on sex and, ideological concepts that disvalue family and relationship. In the modern-day United States these views are reciprocal and ever-present, however, these views were not directly mirrored, values today are not completely lost.
Human sexuality can be fascinating, complex, contradictory, and sometimes frustrating. Sexuality is interwoven into every aspect of being human; therefore, having knowledge about sex is as essential as having education about human anatomy. However, it is highly recommended to pay close attention when sex education is delivered to youths. (Donatelle 171)
In this time period, there are many different disorders and illnesses that go unnoticed, and unknown. Society creates stereotypes about illnesses such as obsessive compulsive disorder, clinical Depression, and many other mental afflictions. Another that seems to remain controversial and misunderstood is sexual compulsive behaviors. Many see it as an excuse to act a certain way, or think a certain way; in reality it is a serious mental disorder that can cause devastating effects on the people that are consumed by them and the people who are around them. Something that is however, known about sexual compulsive behaviors is that there are certain things that can emotionally damage a person and cause them to have these behaviors. The three

Each day, over one-hundred and eighteen million babies are born worldwide. According to the biological sex binary male and female, every infant has the possibility of being born with sex chromosomes female (XX) and male (XY), which causes differences in their biological anatomies. There are also individuals with disorders of sex development or more commonly referred to as being intersex. Intersex is an umbrella term for people whose sexual or reproductive anatomies, sex hormones, or sex chromosomes just do not fall neatly into the definitions of male and female. Examples of this disorder could include ambiguous genitalia, androgen sensitivity, or abnormalities with how the rest of the body responds to sex hormones. The majority of cultures around the globe give merit to and recognize the differences in biological sex (male/female binary), what roles they have played in their traditions/histories, and their current position in framing politics or societal structures. Some Non-Western countries such as China, India, Taiwan, and Pakistan, include cultures that exhibit a strong sex-preference, or more specifically son-preference. More than simply preferring the births of sons to daughters, son preference develops from instances of gender inequality where outside parties often question basic human rights. Non-Western
My first discussion moment was brought up by Nicole. Nicole asked “whether or not police discrimination played a role in the extreme poverty in some regions and the extreme wealth in others”. In Nicole’s opinion, the police’s in justice between poor people, and rich people causes people in poverty to not be able to grow out of the financial poverty cycle they were born into. I strongly agreed with this statement because I believe that, youth are impressionable, and if they don’t have a good role model to represent justice and fairness, hence the job of a police officer, they will assume that the world is unfair and discriminatory and unsafe . Also,
Did you know that 24 states in the US require their public schools to teach sex education and HIV education to their students (NCL.org)? Do they even need to understand sex or STDs? Well of course not. That’s why schools should not even teach these students sex because it’s just going to be too much for the high school students’ young mind, sex education will definitely motivate the students to have sex—regardless of their sexuality--, and it’s up to their not so busy parents to explain sex—and all its glory—to their children who are attending high school.
the girl's reaction to the drugs. She uses the drugs to achieve this good feeling that addicts feel
First, I would want to ask what the main characteristics he personally believes it takes to be a leader and why he thinks that. I know we have discussed some assets of strong leaders in our first lecture, but I am interested to see if what he thinks will be similar or different to what we have discussed. As an important figure in the community, he exhibits many leader-like qualities and I am looking forward to seeing what he thinks makes a good leader. Also, I want to ask him what he thinks of the newfound stigma against police officers due to recent events of police brutality against members of the black community. I think it would be very interesting to hear a police chief’s position on this because they are a big part of this upcoming movement and probably have a lot to say on the manner. I have yet to hear personally what any police officers think of this situation and am looking forward to hearing his
In the Article Sex, lies and conversation, Deborah Tannen asserts that men and women communicate differently because of their different training. One of the many things that can lead to miscommunication is divorce during her argument she provides us the trend of the divorce rate. She also mentions that Men and Women communicate differently, because they have different goals, body Language and how they were raised, and lastly when it comes to communicating women show more character when communicating like eye contact, and the fully attention. The evidence of her case is backed up by several other authors who also support that communication is different between men and women the authors’ point of view and their research that Tannen uses to prove
Some police officers would think that enacting a law which demands the use of non-deadly force before using deadly force in a dangerous situation would be a way to endanger their lives. But they should know that choosing to be a police officer is already a danger, and if they are committed with the institution, they will see this solution as a benefit for the country because it will heal the image of the police department that nowadays is damaged due to the acts that they performed. On the other hand, Richard Beary, president of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, warned that there isn’t much money to give officers better training in community relations. Although, this can be a disadvantage for the solution, it can be solved by the government, which is able to provide more funds to the Police Department if they take this problem seriously as it is right now. Ms. Rawlings-Blake said: “If there is any place where the federal government and the Justice Department can produce a tangible difference for our officers, it would be to provide more resources in fiscal belt-tightening area.” In this area, police officers learn the broader significance of their role on society. Though not a perfect solution, analysts said, more comprehensive training for police officers is, in the words of Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake,
They said that not all cops are bad, we can’t judge every cops based on a few bad one. They also feel that there are many good cops that protect us and we should be thankful for them. Some of them said a lot of the media is overdoing things that make the cops look bad. However, if you stand at the victim point of view or their family point of view, they didn’t do anything wrong to be killed or be beaten up. We know that there are just a few bad cops, but if we not stop them, there will be more bad cops. Until both sides is coming to the middle, this problem will not be
The PBS Documentary, Why Sex?, starts out in the beginning with special guests, peacocks. The male peacocks’ tail features are not only for its unique beauty, but, they also attract other predators and female peahens only mate with well endowed males. Which in this case means if the male peacocks don’t have a “fancy” enough tail according to the female peahens, unfortunately means no sex permitted for them. Every living thing on this Earth is programed to pass their genes to the next generation. Even if that means you have to risk fighting or even dying for. For evolution to continue, sex is of greater importance than even life itself.
Prescription drug abuse can lead to addiction, over dose or even death. More and more people are dying each day from drug overdoses. The use of the prescription drugs in the wrong manner can result in several different life altering side affects. Between the three main types of prescription drugs used the side affect can range from repertory failure, seizures, brain damage, extreme weight loss or even death. Our bodies were not designed to take these drugs in such a way. The body becomes dependent on the drugs and withdraws cause serious and painful side affects. The brain creates certain chemicals to help us deal with pain whether it’s mental or physical, and the abuse of prescription drug throws everything out of whack. It’s ironic how something that is designed to help us can also destroy us. (Prescription)
