Week Three Application This week’s application assignment was a bit of a challenge. The question in the margin system is a method I was unfamiliar with prior to this class. The application was time consuming, and for myself had little benefit. Possibly it was because time is limited for this class and I felt I was wasting trying to learn a method and apply it that wasn’t benefiting for myself. I can see how the method can be beneficial. Each step clearly lays out how the system works. However, for myself when I was taking notes I felt like I was constantly pausing the video to figure out what I was doing next. The concept of the margin system is to control the information. “Although you can’t control the amount of information in a lecture or the form in which it is presented, you can control what you write down and how you write it down. The Question in the Margin System is the best way I know to control both the amount and form of your notes.” (Hopper, 2016). Maybe after some practice I could apply the method better, but at this point it is more distracting than beneficial. …show more content…
The first video watched was Corporate Communication BUS 210, “Introduction to Corporate Communication” and right at the beginning I had to pause the video and make sure I had the paper structured correctly. Once the video began and the individual started speaking “The goal of this course is to teach you how to apply the concepts of effective communication in the business setting.” (Saylor Academy, n.d.) I had to watch that section repeatedly to ensure I had the information noted correctly, as the gentleman was a fast speaker. Using this method took me eight minutes to watch a two-minute video. It was the same with each video I watched. I did not feel as if the method became easier

Chose to go back through a couple companies that I used to work for. I chose Subway, Main St. Liquor, and Taco Bell. I chose these because I had an inside view to the OMM for all three of these companies. The OMM for Subway was a very simple one. Their main focus was on providing excellent customer service with a team effort. They have a certain prodical for making the subs, that they want you to stick with. This will keep food costs down. For example they are suppose to put only six tomatoes on one sub. They have a weight or number amount for all meats, and veggies. Large amounts of the population, approximately 60 percent, are visual learners, meaning they learn through collecting information with their eyes. While it can be different for each individual, it has been proven, that on average the human brain processes visual information 60,000 times faster than text. A documentary is extremely useful for taking advantage of this and is able to provide these people with the optimal learning experience. At the same time, a documentary is much more effective than other methods of teaching for the rest of the population. This is because things such as mood and drama through techniques such as: lighting, music, panning and zooming.
