Amazon Culture: Bar Raisers Hollis Alexander Indiana Wesleyan Management and Leadership MGT-302-01A Joyce Lawrence July 25, 2015 Amazon Culture: Bar Raisers Initially, I thought Amazon was a business on the internet that sold everything from A to Z. There are other companies that do the same thing, but have not become the juggernaut that Amazon has become. One thing that keeps coming up in conversations is the term “bar risers”. Why does Amazon use bar risers in their hiring process? What are the potential advantages of using bar risers for Amazon? What are the possible disadvantages of bar risers for Amazon? And finally what are the potential pros and cons for job applicants of bar risers being used? A “bar riser”, reports the …show more content…
The potential advantages job candidates are exposed to during the bar riser’s process includes obtaining a real understanding of Amazon’s corporate culture. The candidates also get to see what the potential job would entail. It allows candidates to decline positions early in the process before wasting their time or the bar risers. On the other hand, there are some potential disadvantages to the job candidate that are exposed to the bar risers program. The chance of the applicant not being selected because of a personal rationale of one of the bar risers can be frustrating. The thought of going through the whole process and on the final round of the process you are veto. Who is to say that the reason for the prohibition was not of a personal reason opposed to logical reasons? Personally, I am split between the uses of bar riser’s methodology. On one hand, I like the idea of a committee that reviews potential candidates. It allows the bar risers to get a sense of the potential candidate personality and their work ethics. The only thing I would change is the time needed to evaluate all potential applicants. I would recommend adding some other selection tools to the process such as performance test. The above actions can cut the time required by the bar risers to conduct the interview process. On the flip side of the coin, I would not endorse the use of the bar risers program. It can be very intimidating to be judged by strangers. Also the fact
Amazon believes in keeping its marketing plan simple in order to be effective. Consequently, their marketing plan is based upon the 4 P’s (product, price, place, and promotion). Amazon’s product is to provide an unparalleled selection of any item that exists on the planet. Its prices are extremely competitive and often lower than traditional stores and it is more convenient for people to shop on the internet (place) than it is in a physical location. Finally, its promotion emphasizes big ideas, innovation, technology, and customer centricity, enabling it to market itself as the most convenient place for consumers to shop and satisfy their needs (Kerin & Hartley, 2015). This strategy targets

I would advise Shania that an LLC would be the best form of business to accomplish her goals. Shania wants to open a Christian coffeehouse and already has a name in mind. Colorado LLC laws allow LLCs to be formed with one or more members, taxes them at a lower rate like partnerships and sole proprietorships, and provides the members with lower liability that protects them from the company’s debt (Scrofano, n.d.). This form of business will give Shania the ability to name her company what she wants and run it how she wants. The limited liability is also desirable.
For this case study I am going to discuss 3 health promotions, the 3 health promotions I will be discussing are; obesity, exercise and smoking. All 3 of these health promotions are from a patient whose care I was involved with for a number of weeks. I have gained full consent from the patient and their relatives. In relation to the Data Protection Act 1998 (Legislation.gov.uk, 1988)
Roughly 24 million people live in Australia. Of this, 2.4% is made up of Indigenous Australians (Australian Government, n.d., Population today, para 1). Due to the nature of work that paramedics do, they come into contact with a variety of different cultures, many of which are Indigenous Australians. Paramedics are often the first point of contact a patient has entering the health system, this can be crucial as it sets the standard of health care the patient will expect. Establishing trust and a good rapport is a starting point, it allows patients to have reassurance that the health system is there to assist, cultural sensitivity is important to achieve this. When attending an Aboriginal patient there are many aspects to their culture to bring
A case study is a specific instance that is frequently designed to illustrate a more general principle (Nisbet and Watt, 1984). Hitchock and Hughes (1995) further suggest that the case study approach is particularly valuable when the researcher has little control over evens. Case studies strives to portray ‘what it like’ to be a particular situation, to catch up reality and ‘thick description’ (Geertz, 1973) of participants’ lives experiences of, thoughts about and feelings for a situation. They involve looking at a case or phenomenon in its real-life context, usually employing many types of data (Robson, 2002). It is important in case studies for events and situations to be allowed to speak for themselves, rather than to be largely interpreted, evaluated or judged by the researcher. In this respect the case study is akin to the television documentary. Case studies can make theoretical statements, but, like other forms of research and human sciences, these must be supported by the evidence presented.

Spokane Industries has contracted Franklin Electronics for an 18 month product development contract. Franklin Electronics is new to using project management methodologies and have not been exposed to earned value management methodologies. Even though Franklin and Spokane have worked together in the past, they have mainly used fixed price contracts with little to no stipulations. For this project Spokane Industries is requiring Franklin Electronics to use formalized project management methodologies, earned value cost schedules, and schedules for reports and meetings. Since Franklin Electronics had had no experience with earned value management, the cost accounting group was trained in the methodology in order to bid for the
In reading the first article Coach Knight: The Will to Win, I found the article found Coach Knight to be very offensive and mean to his players. Coach Knight did not display good leadership skills. According to the article, Coach Knight’s drive and passion for excellence was not always received as well as his record of wins and losses Snook, Per low, Delacey, 2005).
The hiring process includes a series of interviews. Initially, all the candidates are interviewed by a small group of staffers at the company and then a second committee reviews all the applications which include the application’s that are submitted on their own as well as interviewer feedback.
