Throughout my time as a CNA, I also became the Health Occupations Students of America President. I organized two succesful blood drives with the American Red Cross, participated in regional competitions, and organized various fundraisers to donate to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. I learned how to organize school wide events, delegate tasks to my fellow members, and lifelong leadership
Throughout my high school career, I have been involved in various clubs and organizations to help me become a leader in my community. At Auburn High School I took on the role of being a Publicist officer for National Technical Honors Society the first two consecutive years that it became a part of our school. I gained a lot of leadership experience through this club. Implementing a new organization is never easy and takes a lot of hard work and dedication from the leaders of the club. By being a part of a very helpful, dedicated and motivated team, we helped affiliate all the eligible members into the club and in turn helped introduce this new club to the school. As publicist my role in helping the club grow was crucial; I helped in publicizing the clubs various projects and involvement.
Life is full of little meaningful events and experiences, they go so unnoticed that we don't realize they can change our lives forever. Sometimes those little moments can mean so much more than what they seem. One way an experience can develop into something meaningful is when you can express it in a way to help others. This experience for me was when I won SGA Vice President. Being Vice President today is a challenge and a blessing. As SGA Vice-president I am responsible for the activities of the entire school. When I accepted the position of Vice President my abilities were tested to the fullest, this leadership role forced more responsibilities such as public speaking, calling meetings, and developing strategies under difficult circumstances. For instance,
As a committed member of the SGA/Leadership class, I was taught to lead by example. I achieved missions to instill values of integrity, passion, and service as I cooperated that into my school and community. The class handed me the opportunity to host school-sponsored events while giving me a hands-on, authentic opportunity to learn and develop leadership skills for the future and put the skills learned into practice through the coordination of planning and implementing events. I was nominated to chair numerous committees. Through delegating tasks, working tight-knit with others, laying a foundation for rules, integrity, and values, I earned credibility. My leadership skills spoke "do as I do" and not "do what I say" which enabled others
It taught me how to be a leader. As I went through each step of the senior project,
“Good morning Mary. Are you ready to get up?” I seem to say these words a lot. I work as a CNA at the St.Elizabeth’s Health Care Center. In order to become a CNA you have to take a course and pass a test. I am going to tell you about the teacher that made this class a very good experience. Her name is Melissa Rebehl. I’m going to tell you a little about what we had to do and why she was such a good teacher.
I also learned a lot about people, including myself. I learned how to speak in front of large groups, how to campaign for office, and how to effectively lead. Before I attended Boys State, my perspective of 'leading' was barking orders, but now I understand that it is much more than that. Now, my perspective of leadership is that the leader is servant to the followers, representing their beliefs and desires in a constructive manner. I attribute Boys State with transforming me into someone who people can trust and follow with ease.
I am honored to be in ASB this year and enjoy making a difference in the school and being a leader, and I’m looking forward to making a bigger difference next year at the school. I have learned numerous tips on how to be a leader by writing essays and showing what we learned in different committees in ASB and in our larger world. Throughout my year in ASB I learned how to be a better leader, and because of that I used these skills to make the school a better place to be in and a more amusing and exciting place to go to school.
I have learned how to ask better questions and to talk to my teachers when I need help or do not understand the concept well. I make sure that I have a relationship with my teachers and introduce myself at the beginning of each semester. Learning how to communicate with my teachers
When I became a junior I started to become very active in my local community. This experience can be credited to Key club (a community service organization) Key club has connected me with the community in a way I never knew.
I have been the president of my school’s Junior Civitian club for 2 years now and I was color guard caption for two years also. I have learned how to become a leader. I also went to Girl State where I learned how to become a better leader. Becoming a leader is challenging, especially in high school, when you want to do what everyone else is doing. I have learned that being a leader you should be fair and treat people as if they are your peers and not lower than you are. As a leader I am the first person their and the last person to leave. I also have made myself available to the people in Junior Civitan and the people on the color guard team. I also have an ambitious attitude, as should ever leader. I will always try to keep everyone cheerful
I am a CNA and I am currently working for a Home Health Care Agency. It is my job as a caregiver to keep my clients healthy and active. I do everything from making doctors appointments, give medications, prepare healthy meals and observe and report any signs and symptoms to the family, nurse, or physician. One of the most critical part of my job is to make sure they are staying active. There is a popular quote "if you don't use it, you lose it" this is incredibly true when it comes to the elderly. The majority of my clients are not active. The most walking they do is to the bathroom and down to the dining hall, even then most of them take their scooters to the dining room. So it is very vital that I encourage them to do as much physical activity
I first served as Garey Key Club secretary in tenth grade. This position helped me develop organizational skills required for a leader. My first attempts to become organized by utilizing sticky notes as reminders proved to be very inefficient. I progressed by using planners and updating them as frequently as events arises. I learned to integrate my physical agenda with Google Calendar. Programs such as Google Drive, allowed me to collaborate with others when organizing membership rosters, monthly reports, and upcoming service events. In eleventh grade, I ran for Key Club President; to lead my club to organize and participate in community programs. I developed my speaking and networking skills to improve as a leader through public presentations. I presented my clubs ideas to city hall officials at public events.
What learning experiences have had the most influence on your own personal development as a leader?
I was also involved for three and a half years in a student government club on campus. In this club I learned many life lessons. One of which was the value of hard work. I was one of the few people that organized the Junior/Senior Prom of 2000. My responsibilities included planning corranation, buying and organizing decorations, planning the busing schedule, booking the photographers, fundraising, ect. This taught me about hard work. But the best part of it was going to Prom knowing I was one of the only reasons that it happened.
What I didn’t learn from my highschool class is how to properly set goals. I didn’t know that there was a process and I didn’t realize how helpful it is writing down goals and physically seeing them. I was able to learn S.M.A.R.T goals which helps you structure your goals to a achievable standard. I also learned the different types of goals like long term, short term, and immediate. I learn how important goal setting can be and how it helps you better achieve them.
