The Recreation Center— a training area that believes fitness should be for all. It is located on the sprawling regional grounds at Cal State Fullerton. The extensive building stands North of the Pollak Library, costing approximately 40.6 million dollars. This two-story, 95,000- square-foot building holds 60 cardio machines, 80 strength machines, and 12 dual functional training motion machines. The building provides a multi-court gymnasium, indoor track, cardio center, swimming pool, rock wall, and a multi-purpose activity room. Being the number one place to go to at Cal State Fullerton, it is exceedingly attracting interest to all Cal State Fullerton members. The Recreation Center provides them for all CSUF members since they are known to be effective for improving health. The treadmills and ellipticals are all certainly new machines. They all are able to adjust inclines, read heart rates, read distance travelled, and show the time it takes to complete laps or how far the individual has peddled. Furthermore, on the treadmills and ellipticals specifically, there is a little flat screen TV. The individual is able to change the channel and enjoy the TV as he/she runs or pedals. On the right side of the control panel, there is a fan attached to each machine. The fan hits the runners face as he/she runs or pedals. This gives him/her a wonderful breeze as their body releases sweat. Moreover, there are cup holders on each as well. The runner is able to place their water bottle down or any object they wish. I learned that swimming is both good for the body and the mind. Water is 600 to 700 times denser than air so it improves muscular strength. Adapted aquatics can also improve flexibility because the reduction in gravity allows a greater range of motion and the uniform pressure gives the body greater support. Adapted aquatics is also good for mental and emotional health of those with special needs. Often times groups can form meetings here as well. Residents can find an event almost every week. Most of them are free, although some might require a small fee.
Central Idea: Swimming has a long and rich history that dates back way before our generations and is not always as beneficial as we may think.
Point 3 – Stress is a leading cause for bad decisions, and swimming is an easy method for relieving stress.
The ability for high school sports to give athletes a break from the classroom allows them to clear their minds. Students have the chance to forget about the things that may be bothering them as well as allowing them to have fun for a bit. Research shows that the movement of the brain’s physiology has an effect on the way that a person does things throughout their life. In fact, a study shows that people who have been physically activity or have participated in sports when they were younger are happier because they have been releasing endorphins which releases stress. Stress is the leading cause of depression in the United States and by exercising, the rate of stress in which a person has can be lowered. High school sports does not just benefit a person's mental health but also a person's physical health.
The whole purpose of this study is to compare the amount of stress college athletes experience to non-athletes. It is hypothesized that college athletes will experience a great amount of stress than non-athletes due to multiple reasons. Relaxation is necessary in one’s day to day active life. A person must work hard but his energy is limited, and if he spends too much of it he will soon feel tired. Even a machine cannot work for a long time at a stretch and it is given rest at regular intervals, otherwise it gets out of order. To move out of our daily hectic schedule life or more specific to relax, we need to perform several activities of our choice to get relax, which also provide amusement, benefit to us. Some of them that I follow are dancing, swimming and watching movies or watching Television.
Without having or developing good time management skills, one may find it easier to stress out or find it easy to not make time for leisure. The results for a study conducted on 249 college students showed that the combination of anxiety reduction and effective time management affiliated with participating in leisure activities can be an effective technique for reducing academic stress (Misra & McKean, 2000, 41). The same study also states that, “campus recreation practitioners may plan leisure activities and social recreational pursuits that increase the educational benefit from leisure pursuits to help students handle their academic stress,” (Misra & McKean, 2000, 49). So therefore, there is time for leisure as long as we learn how to manage our time. Once we find time to participate in those activities we desired for so long, it will help cope with nerve-racking situations that surround our lives. Besides keeping us from stressing, leisure also keeps us entertained and it helps stirs us away from being bored.
