In analysing the language and expression, the sentence in line 1 “the seminar was meant for managers” was unnecessary. It may be deciphered by other staff members as being boastful and breed ill-feelings. In line 2, “boss” can be better phrased with “higher management” in expressing the idea of a higher authority.
Piggy in the beginning of the book was using his common sense, he was intelligent, he knew what was right from wrong, and he could condone things that made him angry easily. In the beginning of the book, (pg. ) Ralph told everyone his name was Piggy even though Piggy specifically told Ralph that he didn't like to be called that name Piggy later condoned Ralph's action with great ease. Piggy's action's and behavior depended on his glasses. Piggy and his glasses symbolized intelligence, he represents the rational side of civilization. With the glasses it seemed as though Piggy made all the right choices, and he helped Ralph know what needed to be done with the tribe. Without his
Eric Blair wrote “The Animal Farm” during 1945, which he writes about a dystopian society with animals. He makes connections to real world problems throughout the story. He refers to animals being human by making connections by forming a government, because it's in human nature to form any type of government. In this case, the animals form a democracy from the commandments they put in their constitution; with all the corruption it mimics a communist government. The corruption deals with the leaders taking advantage of the commandments by overriding them while the other animals have to obey them. The main characters were Napoleon, Snowball, Boxer, and Squealer which can be connected to real world leading figures. The author also put in
On Thursday’s lecture conducted by Calvin Smiley, he illuminated the problems in our racist society and our love for mass incarceration. Calvin spoke out about the history of slavery, mass incarceration, and prisoner reentry. His talk was extremely informative, especially when he mentioned about two-thirds of released prisoners are rearrested within three years and why it happens(lack of landing a job, nowhere to live, etc.). He touched on how survival becomes instinctual for these people and when they’re unable to find a steady job or household, they revert back to crime because at least in prison they’re guaranteed three meals, a shower, and a roof over their heads. I agree with Calvin when he said true reentry into society is funding more

In George Orwell’s novel Animal Farm, a major turning point in the novel was when Napoleon used his secret police force, his dogs, to exile Snowball. Snowball had previously been trying to improve the animal’s lives for the future by building a windmill. After Snowball was exiled, Napoleon became leader and everything immediately went amiss. Orwell stated that: "Somehow it seemed as though the farm had grown richer without making the animals themselves any richer- except, of course, for the pigs and the dogs" (p.86). In other words, no one was benefiting from the animal’s labours apart from the pigs and the dogs because the amount of authority the dogs and the pigs, especially Napoleon had, was corrupt. Frighteningly, if Snowball had been
Levy believes in the CEO as a teacher, he motivates his management team in improving decision making and accountability, an example is the discharging of patients which were being seen as a bottleneck (getting people who are well to leave the hospital). The Department of Medicine was responsible for coming up with a plan to resolve the issue, and had yet to take action in implementing their new plan. Levy addressed this in a staff meeting, direct at the head of the Department, in front of everyone. He said that in order to get anything done, you need a champion, periodic reporting, and corrective actions. This put peer pressure on the Department of Medicine to produce results, singling them out as aware of an issue although they had not yet taken action. This is a lesson on how to organize things to get things done. He was also motivating other to follow suit and start implementing improvements in their departments.
Humankind has always had a thirst for power; over its peers, environment and spiritual beliefs. To quench this thirst it has gone as far as genocide; but has often employed more subtle techniques, such as mind control. In today’s socio-economical and political worlds, mind control plays a key role in dictating tastes and lifestyles; as well as controlling political thoughts, views, and people’s understanding of the world. It is accomplished using various channels to condition people’s thinking. Publicity and advertisement campaigns saturate people with products, broadcasting over radio, and television which in itself is a prime example. Many religions employ mind control, conditioning their followers to obey without

George Orwell includes a strong message in his novel Animal Farm that is easily recognizable. Orwell’s Animal Farm focuses on two primary problems that were not only prominent in his WWII society, but also posed as reoccurring issues in all societies past and present. Orwell’s novel delivers a strong political message about class structure and oppression from the patriarchal society through an allegory of a farm that closely resembles the Soviet Union.
