Canadian Case Study

From the physical activity guidelines, emphasis has been placed upon understanding whether MVPA can be attained in bouts of 10 minutes, and the different ways in which participants engaged in MVPA. Due to the fact that our initiative and the Canadian case study involve the use of active transport, it is relevant to acknowledge that Voss et al (2016) indicates that public transit trips in their study rarely provided a 10 minute bout of MVPA; these bouts were more common in walk trips. Voss et al (2016) suggests that the lack of bouted MVPA occurs due to the interrupted nature of walking segments of most transit trips. It is important to note, that transit and walk trips provided comparable amounts of total physical activity within the …show more content…

Like Figures 4 and 5, a central value measure should be used to summarise the data in Figure 6, in addition to a rank-ordered data set split where data is divided into four equal parts. This is based upon the data which is asymmetrically slanted to the right, and includes several data points for each category which lie outside of the data range where most of the points lie within. I believe that the time of the year does have an impact on participants achieving recommended levels of MVPA, as the weather has a large influence on the way that people feel and act. When the weather is cold and raining, people often do not feel like exercising. When the weather is beautiful, people are more willing to go out and enjoy the weather, partaking in larger amounts of physical activity. Hence, I would predict that participants would undertake more physical activity in autumn (March to May), spring (September to November) and summer (December to February); although looking at Figure 7, the total MVPA minutes undertaken in the winter months (June to August) do not appear to be any lower than those of the other seasons. December is a month that would be favoured by participants to indulge in more physical activity due to the fact that a large portion of the population have time off work and school over the Christmas period, and the weather is great during this period. Figure 7 compliments this assumption, as the average amount of MVPA minutes performed in December is
