In Video #2, week one, Liz made a statement that concurs with the findings, “I wonder how big CanGo would be today if I had been more on top of planning, what opportunities were missed, what was overlooked.” There is no indication that CanGo has ever looked into preparing a SWOT analysis and this can lead to poor decision making because the goal or mission has not been outlined. Team formation and task delegation is not one of CanGo’s strong points and there appears to be no structure in business decision making. For example, CanGo is getting ready to seek a market in the online gaming business without taking into account if this is a good business opportunity or not. Ethel brought out this point in Video #1, week two when she stated that she thought the venture was a risky one to pursue. For a project to be successful, it takes a team approach and a well-organized Project Manager. Team leadership can be very instrumental in the success of a project to ensure that the project stays on schedule, encouraging use of best practices, planning and scheduling activities, problem solving and helping to facilitate control. This is achieved through team dynamics, deliverables and meeting customer expectations. The utilization of a team based approach serves to improve performance and will ultimately increase the success of a project. Nick of CanGo has been assigned the Project Manager for
As each new project is started, a new team leader may be assigned. The reason for this is with each new project the area of expertise needed may change. These teamwork groups are helpful to the manager. By delegating the responsibility of a project to the designated group, it lessen
The second internal strength that we feel CanGo has is low operating costs. They own the “brick and mortar” and overhead is not very high for their day-to-day operations. From what we have seen in the financials, they are bringing in revenue of $33 million.
Clear responsibilities and roles, the structure of the team, job descriptions, competencies, accountabilities, resources, tools and equipment should all be provided. Problem solving, communicating, managing conflicts, tasks, planning meetings, performance evaluation, managing change and decision making should follow clear procedures ensuring effective team working. Positive relationships, mutual respect and trust, continuing support and inclusion, valuing diversity and listening to feedback can overcome challenges to effective team performance. A strong credible leader with clear expectations can also overcome challenges to an effective team.
CanGo is made up of multiple internal and external factors that are both favorable and unfavorable to the company’s future plans and success. A SWOT analysis helps to breaks these areas down to fully understand their impacts on the organization.
The Innovative A’s Consulting Group is glad to run our analysis on your company’s operational process. Your company has done tremendous progress and indeed it is a recommendable success as it started out small and grew to be one of the leading businesses in the industry. In our analysis over the past two weeks, we observed that, if planned well, CanGo has a promising future ahead. Our team came up with certain issues being faced by your company, which we assume, if not resolved, can cause a problem in the long run for CanGo to be more successful. Your company has been lucky over the past few years, but in our evaluation, we concluded that CanGo’s future needs a great deal of strategic planning. By carefully
The paper is divided into three sections, the first of which will establish a timeline of events. This project background will serve as a case study for the analysis in the following section that will be structured such that each of the previously mentioned facets will be independently analyzed and contrasted with project management principles. Finally the paper will conclude with a summary of the analysis and recommendations based on
After reviewing the material one can see that CanGo is ready to move forward with upgrades technology. CanGo is looking to expand, but is still unsure of which way to go. Jack met with Warren and Debbie in which, he shared with them the ideas of an Automated Retrieval/Storage System (AS/RS). Jake explains to them that process flow charts give them the data to review. He states that they need to simplify, eliminate, automate, and integrate. Jack shares with Debbie and Warren the information about bar-coding and how it would benefit the company. He explains the vertical material movement and how it benefits a distribution facility
Issue: The ASRS system that Jack has chosen is expensive and also would pull personnel from other projects to work on the integration of the new system
Let me say first thank you for giving us the opportunity to evaluate your company’s operational process. It has been a tremendous experience to be in a company that started out small and grew to one of the leading businesses in the industry. CanGo does have a promising future ahead. During our evaluation over the past two weeks, we have noticed a few things that will be a problem in the future if not resolved. It seems that the company has been profitable by chance not because of planning. At this point we feel the need to work on the planning aspect and all that it entails. There are six key issues and recommendations that we have made that we know
Swot stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The SWOT analysis will assist CanGo understand the opportunities that are obtainable and what threats may have an effect on its business. Before moving onward with new ventures CanGo needs to evaluate the arrangement they currently have in the market. Performing a SWOT analysis technique would be very beneficial at this point and will serve as the baseline to elaborate on a strategic plan for the organization. C&G consultants have been monitoring CanGo’s processes for quite sometime, and we have developed the following preliminary SWOT analysis:
First they need to realistically think about whether or not will Nick actually conform and meet their expectations. If he does not, then they have to consider the cost of finding a replacement. With the current state of unemployment, I would expect that finding a replacement could be accomplished
The area of team leadership attracts a lot of attention in the modern world because of the need to assemble and deploy diverse teams for the completion of projects. The future of many corporations relies more and more on the kind of team leadership they have for their projects. This paper explores a number of facets that constitute effective team leadership.
Project management in today’s challenging economy requires collaborative effort across an organization. Project managers are expected to make the most out of their team regardless of its composition. Therefore, unless the group operates as a high performance team, the project will not successfully balance the trade-off among cost, schedule, and quality. Relying strictly on the science of project management leads to an unspoken assumption that members on the project team would harmoniously work together to meet the project deliverables. We have seen time and time
This paper reflects the experiences I have encountered working in a project team identifying the problems that occurred, how I managed those problems, and what I learnt from them.
Every project involves many different processes, tasks, and planning. Each project will involve some level of procurement risk associated with contracts. The procurement management process will need to be determined. In order to have a successful team the administrative and behavioral aspects will need to be addressed. Once these are addressed some team development strategies will need to be employed to increase the characteristics of an effective team. Once an effective team is gathered a communication strategy will need to be implemented. All of these piece must align to aid in the project management process.
