Every aspiration I have set for myself in life has been based on interests at the time. When I was eight years old, I travelled on a plane for the first time and for almost three years I aspired to progress into a pilot. After I turned twelve, I yearned to develop into a marine biologist because I enjoyed going to the beach and fishing. As I near the end of my high school career, history, people, culture and the world are now significant and relevant to me and have nudged myself into becoming a U.S. diplomat.

As the academics are important to the background of international relations, the ability to perform well with colleagues is a vital skill to obtain. A foreign service officer must possess the ability to cooperate with many people with different ideas and perspectives; for me being apart of a swim team has been the training to acquire these skills. Many people believe that swimming is an individual sport, but swimming is just as much of a team sport as baseball or soccer. In swimming, much time is devoted to practicing and training for a short race, this time is spent with a team and a race can even be comprised of a relay. Trust with each other is a vital aspect of being apart of an organization and can be carried into a career of international relations where dependence on others is a crucial attribute. Being a supervisor at the waterpark Schlitterbahn can be accredited with training me to handle situations dealing with a magnitude of people. On any given day I have the opportunity to interact with more than 10,000 people from the United States, and from around the world.
