What are the challenges for Kamat Hotels in terms of financial aspects? Is the company in a position to take up any aggressive expansion plans?
There was a major impact on the revenue and finance of Kamat hotels in the year 2008 when there was a large-scale reduction in the number of tourists both from the domestic and from the international level as well. Though there was the arrival of tourists it was only seasonal in nature. The arrival of the tourists was cyclical in nature. From September 2008, there was an economic slowdown on a Global level (Economictimes.indiatimes.com, 2018). The economic setback was created when there was the Mumbai terrorist attack in November 2008. There was also this prediction that the demand for the top notch

This is because, in the modern-day scenario, it is become really very important to promote environmental sustainability. Right from the time of its initiation, Kamat was quite particular about the role that it wants to play towards the conservation of energy and towards the environmente (Jones et al., 2016). This can really be a good strategy to give a strong competition to its competitors because most of the hotels had just boasted off about their eco-friendly services but had not actually done anything for it. Kamat was the first hotel to move in the direction of adopting eco-friendly practices. It is also evident from the fact that the Orchid Hotel was also granted the ECOTEL certification for its considerable contribution towards conserving of energy. Environmentalism has become a great concern in all sectors of business, evidenced by the recent jump in energy prices, and empirical data provided by several different environmental and scientific agencies. The Hotel industry is no different, in fact, it would benefit greatly from the recent push for all businesses and business sectors to "Go Green." Yet, the industry has long resisted the changes, and is only recently catching up to other industries that have converted their operations to have greener strategies.
The vision/mission behind the Good Hotel concept is to maintain its identity as a “hotel with a conscience” – encompassing a positive attitude, environmental sensitive, and philanthropy. The intent of the vision is to inspire the “good in us all”. (Pearce, 2012, p. 10-1, 10-2)
Sustainability is important to maintain the way humans and nature are treated to have healthy organisms and reproduction. Unfortunately, nature and animals are not treated the way they should be. Many livestock are forced reproduced and kept in unlivable conditions. Plants are overwatered or left in drought and given GMO’s to survive. There are many different ways we can change our ways and allow organisms to survive naturally without the use of pesticides and animals to live happy. If a hotel practiced sustainable practices they would be very well known and enjoyed in the community.

Kelly Elizabeth who is very knowledgeable in the marketing field was bought in to try and solve and help with a profitable year from 2004. Part of the core problem I believe is not distinguishing what type of hotel/s the company is targeting to its audience as it has changed through the years between the pleasure/vacation traveler and the business traveler. As a frequent guest to hotels trying to mix the two is not going to work and even though objectives were met the daily average rate objective was not met. Furthermore, in 2006 the frequent business traveler complained about the hotel system at Astor Lodges & Suites. Other key factors that are also a problem is either being a limited service hotel or a full service which Astor Lodges differs. Also, what locations are beneficial and hotel segments are helping with profits within the company.
