Assignment 2: Sport Industry Segment To become the Berean Christian School Athletic Director, there are plenty of skills that are required to perform the everyday duties and responsibilities of the position. None of these are more evident than both the management principles in Chapter Two and the financial principles of Chapter Four in the book Principles and Practice of Sport Management. It is important to remember that as the Berean Christian School Athletic Director there are plenty of roles that must be played to have a successful regime.
I first want to touch on the management principles that are evident in the BCS Athletic Director role. A huge part of being an athletic director is planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating (Masteralexis 29). The BCS Athletic Director must plan to be successful (Masteralexis 29). The athletic director must always be writing down goals and ideas so that they can do their job successfully. When they write down their plans and goals there are no missed dates or missed appointments, just efficiency. This is extremely important because in this job one missed call to book a referee could cost the position. Another aspect that is important in this role is the idea of organizing (Masteralexis 29). After planning everything out, all of these actions need to be completed. The BCS Athletic Director must be in charge of setting up events as well as providing directions for referees and preparing the playing
Passion is a key part of being a successful Athletic Director. He emphasized the importance of having passion for your profession no matter what it is. If an individual is passionate about what they do, their job productivity increases and they have higher job satisfaction. It is important to look for “good” coaches who care about the well being of their athletes and the integrity of the athletic program. He has a set of values that he believes are important for new hires, and passion is one of them. He believes these values are “valuable,
college level, the hiring of coaches is a key responsibility for athletic directors that can be subject
Fast changes in environmental market place such as social development (globalization and development of social networks), economic unsteadiness (crises), technological progress, fast growing competitive world and strict marketing regulatory directly affect work of most of marketing companies or marketing and brand image divisions of the companies. I order to implement a successful campaign or increase sale and consumer awareness companies have to stay in pace with recent marketing environment and take into consideration every possible detail that might help or ruin image of a company or product.
Athletic directors are the best heads for extensive athletic offices. Although they as a rule have extensive experience with athletics, athletic directors oversee planning, booking and other managerial obligations as opposed to instructing and preparing. An athletic chief is one of the executives responsible for an athletic division at a high school, or university. Albeit athletic directors are frequently found in university establishments, they are progressively being utilized in high school athletic projects also. I interviewed with Mr. Joel Thornton Mid-Continent University Athletic Director.
I think that in order to be a successful athletic director, one needs to keep the functional areas of sport management in mind. These four areas include: planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating (Masteralexis, Barr, & Hums, 2015). The first aspect of planning is something that athletic directors’ need to be very good at doing. An athletic director needs to have both short and long term goals. If I were to become an athletic director, I would want to make sure all of the student athletes received the proper tools to succeed both on and off the court. I would make sure each student athlete, scholarship and non-scholarship, had a tutor available to them at all times. I know that the University of Florida allows each athlete to have a tutor, however, it is optional. The reason that it is optional is because it is something that is enforced by the coaches. Therefore, I would make it a university athletic department policy that all coaches must force their student athletes to use a tutor. I would want to make sure each athlete used their tutor to their advantage so they could be aware of what was going on in the classroom. This would also allow students to not be stressed about their studies, and that way they have a proper balance between their sport and education. It is a huge goal of the NCAA for their students to have a proper balance in life, therefore I think through this plan I could implement that balance. In order to make this possible
Management of an athletics department is extremely tricky. One must balance different sports, while keeping in mind the importance of certain sports and the importance of others. One must keep focus throughout the programs in general. Not only the function of the facilities, but of the people who maintain them and our student athletes. Along with the general descriptions, one must steady the academic function and NCAA guidelines, keeping the program in equilibrium. In referencing Scehin, caution must be used to set your eyes on one style. The DEC management style, where in the sense that winning is the ultimate objective of your battle, and yelling your point across is the best way of doing this, is not the best style. The Ciba-Geigy style is excellent in communication with lateral movement, however the lateral parts must integrate and perform as one singular unit. However, the hierarchy of family structure is interesting. The subordinates must feel the compassion and understanding of a family structure, but also must recognize the hierarchy of the chain of the command. To call an athletics department a democracy would be a bit much. However, to have a council and discussion then to make a decision based on the collective benefits of all is the way my athletics department would be.
The NCAA recognizes one of its core values as “the pursuit of excellence in both academics and athletics” (NCAA Core Values). This shows that the NCAA is looking to benefit the students at all costs. They want to include the coaching staff of universities in this core value, but much confusion has been found between the NCAA and university athletic staff. This confusion has resulted in a tension and conflict leading to a discussion on the steps of resolution that can be taken to put this core value back into sights for both coaching staff and the NCAA.
I have recently been provided with the opportunity to become the head basketball coach of Winner University. Winner University is an institution that competes at the division one level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The program is known for making it to the Final Four and winning the national championship for college basketball, this particular program is also known for producing NBA standouts. Winner University is a dynasty and is known for nothing but greatness in the basketball world. The particular problem that I am facing is that I am knew to this program and I want to incorporate my own coaching style and beliefs into the program, while continuing to upheld the tradition of winning here at Winner University. My goals

There are different events and aspects of the local communities which benefits a certain company or organization in the long run. For Preet Sports Canada, the fact that the city in which they are located in, Brampton, has a large population of youth as there are many school for the youth, this give Preet Sports Canada an opportunity to take advantage of this as sports equipment is usually demanded by the youth for extracurricular activities in and outside of school. The following case analysis will assess Coach Inc. and its strategy in the accessible luxury brand goods market. The coach strategy focuses on its luxury rivals in matching key quality styles while offering it at a cheaper price. The company offers most products at a 50% off discount price less than other brands which gives them a competitive advantage pertaining to its customer base. Coach marketed its products to middle –income consumers desiring taste of luxury, but also affluent and wealthy consumers with means to spend considerably more on a handbag (Gamble, 2012. P.C-73) .The Company also has several other strategies such as to increase global distribution, improve same store sales productivity and continue its multi-channel business model which includes indirect whole sales to third party retailers but also focuses on direct consumer sales. Coach has done well in the luxury goods industry but the companies profit margin is still below the levels achieved prior to the onset of a slowing economy in 2007 ( Gamble, 2012. “To this day, after being in this business … the best day on a college campus is graduation, When I see kids I had a relationship with … graduating, you feel like you had a part in that.” David Williams, Athletic Director of Vanderbilt Athletics. Being around sports my whole life and now currently coaching a basketball team, I have encountered a few athletic directors and their supporting cast, which in a high school, it’s the principal and the administration staff. In some circumstance, especially from most coaches’ point of view, it is always about the result of the team and how good the players are. For some athletic directors, it is the same, but at the school I coach, it is also about
Sports marketing are one of the most vital uses in the field of marketing nowadays. Many companies have a trend to use sports and sports celebrity in developing their marketing campaign because they have the ability to influence others and they already are role models for a wide share of consumers in the marketplace. So, companies benefit from their popularity and reputation for its brand awareness. Especially some companies in the food and beverages industry which are concentrated on the marketing campaign and make a huge number of expenditure and its budget. In reading the first article Coach Knight: The Will to Win, I found the article found Coach Knight to be very offensive and mean to his players. Coach Knight did not display good leadership skills. According to the article, Coach Knight’s drive and passion for excellence was not always received as well as his record of wins and losses Snook, Per low, Delacey, 2005).
