Athletics had relative importance in pre-industrial Britain mostly taking place at traditional fairs and festivals. For example a wake was seen as a great social occasion whereby mainly the lower class men would compete in events such as stick fighting, running, climbing a greasy pole and wrestling. These activities were seen as ‘athletic’ events and were an opportunity for the lower class men to show off their power and strength to the women. In addition women had the opportunity to take part in events such as smock races. Festivals and fairs such as these would take place on church holy days such as Easter and were seen as a chance for celebration and enjoyment. Following the Civil War in the United States, African-Americans still faced extreme forms of racism and troubles all the way up until the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. The United Kingdom (UK) law for recruitment is a key area that makes it necessary for every organisation to follow it. It is important that every organisation, irrespective of which field it is in, follow the laws in order to make the right kind of recruitment process. Similarly, JD Sports needs to comply with the UK laws when recruiting an individual. To begin with, JD Sports should not discriminate between men and women. Under the Equality Act 2006, both the genders should be equal chance at opportunities, and this also includes the transgender people, as it will eliminate discrimination and harassment (Gatewood, Feild, & Barrick, 2010). A Sports Management Degree offers a wide array of job opportunities and possibilities. Sports management careers are popular due to the passion many people have for athletics and it allows non-athletes to work within the sport field. One aspect to note is that there are 3 main segments within this field. These include; sports performance, production, and promotion. Each offer unique opportunities in the athletics field. A performance career would be a Recreation Worker, a production career would be an University Athletic Director (A.D.), and a promotion career would be a Sports Event Planner. Ultimately, after analyzing all 3 sectors, the production segment distinguishes itself in terms of size and scope, growth trends, and it allows the non-athlete the most opportunity to direct and guide University athletics.
