The Cerritos Library brings back so many childhood memories. There I was, a young boy, who was always curious about the simplest of things. I would stick my palms on the glass of the library aquarium and gaze in wild wonder at the fish, and wander excitedly through the aisles, hunting for those Disney comics I so loved. It was during this time that I enrolled into a Cerritos Library program called Homework Time. In this program, I found there was more to it than just completing assignments and reading books. In fact, I discovered something extremely valuable (although I didn't realize it at that time). I recalled the volunteers telling me that they were heading off to a mysterious place called college. I had no idea what this place was, and …show more content…
I knew my transition from an ordinary visitor to a volunteer would be a new and exciting experience. My task in the Summer Reading Program was to register patrons, explain how the program works, and give out prizes at the end of each week. The number of children who registered for the program impressed me. I enjoyed working with these children, since I knew exactly where they got their excitement from. I would look forward to seeing the smiling faces of the children as they received their prizes. Their faces made me reminisce about the joyful moments I had as a child when I couldn't wait for the grand prize week of the Summer Reading Program. Pleased with my time spent volunteering at the Cerritos Library, I returned the following summer, eager to explore new tasks. I chose to become a Projects volunteer. I was introduced to creating arts and crafts samples for children and assisting volunteers or staff around the library. Working in Projects made me feel immersed in the volunteer experience. I started to develop strong connections with the staff and employees, most notably the Volunteer Coordinators. These relations allowed me to demonstrate my communication skills while working in a
During my volunteer hours I learned a lot about my own community I that I have not been able to experience. For example I have never been able to participate in so many writing programs and workshops in my local high school, this is because I also did not attend my own local high school because my mother did not allow me to instead, she asked me to attend a charter school. By partnering with LA826, I was able to attend different writing workshops where I would help different high school student write essay, cover letters, and personal statements. Furthermore I believed that most of my activities consisted of just being able to listen to some of the students.
They taught me that the joy that came from giving to those less fortunate than me was more valuable than that of receiving. As I volunteer alongside of the other participants we gain knowledge of the Vietnamese culture and learn that sometimes those that I help might have either a very different or similar background compare to mine but volunteering will lead to the connection that are needed to be made in order to have productive teamwork. The trip had allowed me to expand my Vietnamese diction, and taught me how to build a house all experience that I would had missed out on if it wasn’t for volunteering on this program. The most memorable part of this trip was teaching the kids English. Afterwards when they thank me and told me that my ability to speak both language made it easier for them to learn. The fact that I was able to use my talents to assist others made me feel a sense of pride and accomplishment inside. I would confidently tell other young youth that from this trip I had learned by making a difference in another person’s life is making a difference in your own
The museum’s exhibits contain hundreds of thousands of artifacts and historically significant items typical of what one finds in many science and history museums. But, what I found most interesting was the Shipwreck display, which brought to life a romantic vision of the swashbuckling times of yore that I read about when I was young.
Volunteer work is essential for every individual’s life and future careers, it produces a path to connections in the work force, and promotes on the job learning. My practicum work pairing with the National Civil War and Medicine Museums was an amazing, educational 20 hours. Even though I was only there for 20 hours, it was a taste of what I will be tackling in my internship next semester there. I volunteered for four days, and over those days I had a total of four projects. All of the project were different, the first was looking up collection software and plugins, then I took inventory on a case, then I recorded notes on a surgeon’s diary, and finally I described each medicine in a pannier box. All of the people I worked with were immensely friendly and insightful, whenever I had questions they were content to help answer them. The overall experience was tremendously insightful, however, there was a few bumps in the road here and there. This practicum was a great experience that makes me eager for my internship in January.

Nine years ago, my parents dropped me off at overnight camp for the first time ever. Wow, nine years ago… that’s just hard to think about. Anyways, I do not remember much about that first summer, but it must have been fun because I came back the next summer, then again, and again, and again, and again, and, while, you get the point. I really liked it there. Back then, I would not have been able to explain what I loved about camp so much. I would have said something like “my great friends” or “all the sports we play,” but now I understand it means so much more than that. If I was to explain all the memories I made on that hillside throughout my seven year career as a camper, this essay would be well over 650 words, so I will refrain from doing so. Instead, I will talk about my transition from camper to counselor and how it helped me realize the importance of giving back.
First thing I will talk about is the location of my country and the famous landmarks of my country.My country is named Colombia and is located in north west south america west of vespucci.My first landmark is Monserrate Bogota its high in the mountains and a cool Pretty church that over looks the city of Bogota.The second landmark is El Co,Tayrona National Park Tayrona is a pretty good haven of Windswept Beach that you are able to explore if your visting Colombia`s Carribean Coast However thats not all El Cabo is one of the most reginzize thanks to the hut perched on a hill looking over the hill.The third is Fort of San Felipe Cartagena while Cartangena old city is the most popular attraction to the city its hard to pick one of the buildings
El Cid's title of "the Cid" means "sir" or "lord," he acquired this title throughout his lifetime. El Cid was noted for being the national hero of Spain. El Cid displayed remarkable military ability in his destruction of Valencia, and after his death he became the subject of many legends, stories, and poems, including the 12th-century epic "The Song of the Cid". El Cid was a ruler and a military leader. He resided in Iberia and was born in c. 1043. He married Jimena in July, 1074 and later died on July 10, 1099. He was born into minor nobility, El Cid was raised in royalty and was appointed the standard- bearer and commander of troops by Sancho II. Fighting for Sancho against Sancho's brother, Alfonso, would prove awkward to El Cid when Sancho
There are no words that can truly pull out that details of what I have received from volunteering at these events. Having seen the smiles on other people's’ faces, describes it quite enough. There is not a single thing in the world that can derive more joy in me than knowing that I had made someone smile;
I was born in All Saints hospital in Los Santos. When I was a small kid I was living with my small family. One day when we were playing with my neighbors in our countryside called Idelwood I saw a group of gangsters making a gun fight toward the pizza boys who works in the pizza stack. So, I decided with my friends to call 911 the police department to come to our place to save the innocent civilians who want to get some money to save their ill grand parents. After 4 minutes, I saw the police cruisers coming from the other road I was so happy in this moment cause I feel proud by my self about my reaction toward this kind of people. But sadly thing the Ballas gangster call a backup in their location they are calling the farmers' gangster coming from the Richman countryside.
happened to this team that would forever change their club and the city they represent.
This positive impact is evident in the assistance I provided to the children of the local community in developing their literacy and social skills. The positive impact I made on the children was also evident through the safe and healthy learning environment I provided to them, as this accomplishment established a safe environment for those who may not have access to one within the community. However, the positive change I brought forth was not only evident in the lives of those I engaged with, but in my own life as well. Volunteering in this program allowed me to further develop my leadership skills, all the while learning how to interact with children in an instruction-heavy environment, both of which will help me in the future. My acts which demonstrated global citizenship demonstrated how I brought a positive change to the lives of those around me, and my
Cestodes which are being tested are examined and identified using a microscope. The eggs of Moniezia benedeni are square while M. expansa is rather triangle and the oncospheres of the two species are borne strangely shaped pyriform apparatus (Olsen, 1962), which is also described by Urquhart et al. (1985) as well-defined. Stilesia spp. is round shaped (Kaufmann, 1996) have no pyriform apparatus. Avitellina sp. is oval (Kaufmann, 1996) and pyriform apparatus absent (Soulsby, 1982).
Since then, I have tutored students of all ages, and I have also volunteered as a concierge with the UC San Diego Health System, run charity events for the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito through United Way, was president of Vista High School’s Visual Art Honor Society where I led community beautification projects, and volunteered at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas as the secretary’s assistant, while also participating in Scripps’ Young Leaders in Healthcare program for 3 years where I was exposed to prevalent healthcare issues and potential careers.
“I volunteered a few times in Urbana-Champaign – at a Y.M.C.A. and at a home for senior citizens – and in both cases it was much too easy to quit. I thought the senior home smelled odd, so I left, and though the Y.M.C.A. was a perfect fit, I could have used nudging – nudging the university might have provided. Just as parents and schools need to foster in young people a “reading habit” – a love of reading that becomes a need, almost an addiction – colleges are best-poised to create in their students a lifelong commitment to volunteering even a few hours a month” (Dave Eggers 583).
