Evolution, -“Change over time. Applied most frequently to the development of living organisms according to the principles of natural selection, as identified by Charles Darwin in the nineteenth century (Big History Project).” The idea of evolution is thought of to be going on for nearly 4 billion years. Some people think that the competition between animals is the factor that drives evolution. Evolution is a weird thing that leads to being a leader in the food chain but is caused in a catastrophic way. Extinction drives evolution in many ways, some being the pure and lucky survivalist. Extinction drives evolution because when a species goes extinct another rises, survival of the fittest, and adapting to the environment faster than others.
Extinction drives evolution when a species goes extinct and another one rises. An example of a species being wiped and another having the opportunity to rise for power is the Jurassic era. The dinosaurs were wiped out by the impact of an asteroid that hit Mexico 66 million years ago; this was called the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction (Eliasson). The dinosaurs were wiped out with 75% of the earth’s species. This extinction made some plants die and only left the small mammals to live. Since they were

Plants have been a great part of evolution in total, “Some important plant groups, such as the gymnosperms (including pines, spruce and firs) lost a great deal of their diversity through extinction. On the other hand, flowering plants (angiosperms) did not suffer from increased extinction, and shortly after the impact, they underwent a new rapid increase in their diversity (Eliasson).” This is how plants have been evolving throughout many eras and make up most of what we have now. Not all animal extinctions need to happen for evolution to happen, but as you have seen here we see that any type of living thing can go extinct and another can
What is evolution? Evolution in modern terms is fairly easy to understand. Evolution is the theory that life on earth began with a single celled organism that lived more that 3.5 billion years ago that slowly evolved into
Evolution is “the process by which organisms have changed over time” (Biology 450). Charles Darwin is responsible
Evolution: the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth.
Evolution is when an organism or something evolves over an extended period. An example of evolution would be humans because it took a long time for early humans to evolve into modern humans.
For instance, gray wolves, according to the authors of “Using Small Populations of Wolves for Ecosystem Restoration and Stewardship”, “...influence the abundance of ungulates, which in turn affects the structure and composition of plant communities”(Licht et al. 2). Wolves prey on herbivores such as deer and elk, keeping their population under control and thus allowing more plant species that the prey feed on to grow and reproduce. If wolves were to go extinct the prey populations would soar. There would be no predators to hunt the animals, so they would spend less time worrying about predators and more time feeding. This would drastically reduce the population of plant species that the prey animals feed on until there is not enough food to sustain the ever growing prey species. The prey species population would begin to die of starvation and the few animals left would develop a variety of diseases due to malnutrition and genes that were passed through generations of animals. The genes would have not passed through the animals if the wolves had not gone extinct. This is due to the fact that wolves would have eaten the weak prey animals, therefore reducing the chance of weak and sickly offspring and improving the health of future generations of prey animals. Additionally, with the plant
The word evolution means the process of change over a period of time. For example: plants and animals evolve over time by their genetic system allowing them to adapt to different changes in the world. The theory of evolution states animals, insects, plants, humans, and etc are all from a one-celled ancestor. A bad example of evolution is having a bad diet, which does not pass on to your next generation.
Introduction: In this lab we are trying to examine on evolution. To see the change over time. Evolution shows where an organism comes from, so if we retrace it to the beginning of its time we will be able to know more about the organism and its ancestors more reliable than an opinion. Measuring the skulls and comparing the the measurements can help us see how far the animal has came and how it changed over time. Also get to see who's related to who and how.
What is evolution? Evolution is the idea that all species are descendants of ancient species that are different from modern day species. The idea of evolution is controversial, because there are counter arguments that species are related based on religion, or arguments that evolution has not been supported with enough evidence. Despite the counter arguments, evolution is a scientific theory that is supported from connections through science, technology, society and environment.
The most well-known extinction event is when the dinosaurs went extinct, although they are not the only organism that perished. This event took place about 65 million years ago, between the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods and wiped out nearly 75% of plants and animals (Principles of Biology). Our book says that most dinosaurs and many other sauropsid lineages died, but many lineages survived, including bird. Crocodiles are lineage of dinosaurs and are often studied to see how they have changed over millions of years, turtles are also part of the lineage that survived. Asteroid impact hypothesis which can be found in class rooms, some textbooks and on TV or in movies has been well explained and accepted as the cause of the extinction of dinosaurs. There is geological evidence that supports a large asteroid creating the Chicxulub crater on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, but the supposed consequences of the event alone cannot account for the major extinctions (Principles of Biology). They say that something else had to also happen in order for all the diversity of animals that became extinct, which would be expected when such a large object impacted earth at what is thought to have been at a high speed too. Changes in sea level and massive volcanic eruptions were also altering the environment, so all this combined is likely what cause the diversity in the extinction event (Principles of
Evolution is the process through which the characteristics of species change and through which new species arise. The three different lines of evidence that support it is natural selection, mutation, and genetic drift.
Evolution is the change in heritable characteristics of organisms over time. Evolution was developed by a man named Charles Darwin in 1859. Charles said that evolution happens over time and when two species split into two. There are two ways that Charles came up with that show evolution , the first one is by Natural Selection. Natural Selection is when some organism are better at surviving than others , like if a giraffe with a short neck and a giraffe with a long neck . The giraffe with the long neck is going to survive longer because the giraffe with the short neck will not be able to get as much high leaves as the other giraffe. The other way is by inherited traits , like with the giraffes sense the giraffe with the long neck has more
I chose to focus on the most recent extinction: The Cretaceous Event. This mass extinction happened at least 65 million years ago and wiped out 76% of the Earth’s species. According to our textbooks there are many explanations as to what happened. The first one states that there had been a comet or asteroid that impacted Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and then that caused global destruction and rapid cooling. Another explanation that scientists have come up with is an increase in volcanic eruptions. Both explanations could have lead to the sky being clouded with debris. The Earth was then deprived of solar energy and photosynthesis could not occur resulting in the death of many plants, this then lead to the disruption of the food chain. Other alternative
Evolution is the theory that all living things form an ancient ancestor. Evolution is the process in which species have changed over time. Evolution mostly occurs when adapting to an environment. It happens when the gene is passed or inherited to future generations. When the mutation is passed on, the change helps living organism to survive and reproduce. Some offspring receive characteristics that are more successful at surviving. These characteristics can change over time and create a new species, while the previous becomes
Evolution is a theory. It can refer to either a process or an organizing principle. Evolution is change. The process of evolution reflects on the definition as it applies to the population of organisms. A group of individuals of the same species that are subdivided from other populations is called biological population. A change in biological population is biological evolution. This change occurs over a course of generations. The evaluation changes are inherited by genes. Short-term changes are not evolutionary. Differential survival and reproduction of individuals in a population it's called Natural Selections. Brought about the evolution change. it is the process population adapted to their changes they're changing
Evolution refers to change over time as species modifies and separate to produce several offspring species.
