W. W. Grainger, Inc. is recently thinking of redesigning the supply chain for shipments from China/Taiwan. The reason being as an obvious to reduce costs, lead times and to improve supply chain efficiency. The major issue identified was the lead time and a huge fixed overhead because of small shipments which then were consolidated by the company to make a full 40-feet container load. Through a thorough cost analysis and weightage of pros and cons of three alternatives, the team recommends to use an NVOCC (Non-Vessel operating common carrier) for small shipments which will lead to a lot lesser lead times and will help reduce costs as well. Along with this, the recommendation is also to increase packing efficiency for
As economies slowly improve, large organizations rely on third party logistics (3PL) companies to play the crucial role of creating innovative solutions in supply chain technology and process improvement. The supply chain market is optimistic for innovative 3PL companies in bad times and good regardless of the industry it handles. The ultimate goal of 3PL companies is to enhance visibility and increase responsiveness along the supply chain. This optimism has enabled new players emerge into the supply chain distribution market that was dominated by a few key logistics players. This paper reviews the current state of logistics visibility in the craft beer industry and determines the feasibility of opening a strategically located third party climate controlled distribution center(s) within the United States designed to service the expansive growth of the Craft Beer industry. It also addresses any assumptions for the application of technology and develops an innovation plan to drive supply chain excellence. This innovative plan is based on the application of Denning’s book, the Innovator’s Way.

Recently an opening of the economies of developing nations, especially China, has allowed a huge shift in outsourced production. For the most part the products of the outsourcing are destined for North American consumption, which creates interesting obstacles to the realizations of improvements predicted. Mega Bloks Inc is a Canadian example of this trend, having recently made their own foray into outsourcing to China. An examination of supply chain issues reveals the overall complexity and number of issues which could develop for a company like Mega Bloks. More specifically, for Mega Bloks issues of logistics, regulation, control (in general and specifically of quality) come to the forefront. All of these issues can individually and
The work by (Solis & Edwards, 2010) highlights the gaps in research for this area of study. The research problem in the study is the weaknesses of the Department of Defense’s (DoD) supply chain management. The DoD supply chain weaknesses have been documented but there has been little research or discussion into a comprehensive solution. The purpose of the study was to (1) define DoD’s prior strategic planning efforts in the field of logistics, (2) highlight key elements in the new Logistics Strategic Plan, and (3) discuss opportunities for improvement in future iterations of this plan (Solis, et al., 2010). In conducting the review, the authors reviewed the Logistics Strategic Plan, compared elements in the plan with effective strategic planning strategies and met with other officials from DoD, the military services and other components of the DoD. The sample of the study was the current logistics plan of the DoD and the officials in the DoD and military. They analyzed the elements in the

Therefore, the company’s distribution plan of products is required to be flexible since each product has to be moved around the world and forecasting is an important key in logistic activities. The shipper must be able to adjust and deal with a swing in business activity. This may require a versatile transportation plan to keep the global supply chain moving smoothly. Moreover, the company also focuses on the cost of every painstaking aspect of the shipping process. The smaller the product packaging means the higher number of items that can fit into an individual case. The more cases that can fit into the shipping container means a larger number of items that can be shipped at one time. This cuts down on the transportation costs of fuel, paid driver hours, and vehicle maintenance cost. All these savings can be passed on to the customer who comes back to the manufacture and the shipper with customer loyalty.

Forward logistics (or conventional logistics) is the regular distribution channel followed by the manufactures from time immemorial. Forward logistics concentrates on the products (goods or services) reaching the consumer end and deals with the line of flow from the manufacturer’s end to the consumer’s end. It deals with the very essence of Supply Chain Management and logistical activities of an organization. It has a significant impact on the primary operations carried out, which act as the basic revenue generating aspect of a business. In this logistical system, the flow is a “one-to-many” type and the forecasting or traceability is quite simple.
Organized retailing (OZR) is one of most promising industry in India. The OZR sector of India is now among top five fastest growing markets of world. High population, globalization, and increasing the middle man income etc. are the number of factors that makes Indian market more challenging and competitive, regularly. In today’s globalized world, efficient supply chain performance (SCP) is highly important to ensure the efficiency in whole supply chain (SC). In this paper, we investigated the factor that affect cold supply chain performance (CSCP) of organized farm products retailing (OFPR) and developed and validate the model. This research shall be helpful to formulate better strategies for this sector.
