The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors are known as the two best teams in the National Basketball Association, most commonly known as the NBA. Appearing in back to back finals within the last 2 years, the two teams continue to stir up social controversy. Despite those who may not watch sports on a regular basis, numerous individuals draw their attention to the screen, to the intensity and the unpredictable outcome of a game 7, in which the Wall Street Journal claims the game 7 of the 2016 NBA finals as “The Richest Game in NBA History”. However, many are unaware that these two teams are more alike than different. Although the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors portray different playing strategies, they share similar attributes through their players and franchise success.
One of the most important aspects of a successful team is often found within their players. The Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers both have critically acclaimed players, however, more specifically, prime leaders Lebron James of the Cleveland and Stephen Curry of Golden State, are the most compared players in the NBA. Both players shine on the court, and are often praised for their tremendous skill to play. In the CBS article DeMarre Carroll, Dwayne Casey say Lebron is NBA’s Best Player Dwayne Casey, the current coach for the Toronto Raptors states “In my heart, I feel like Lebron is the best player in the NBA right now”. Although both coaches on each team are NBA veterans, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors share a small difference when it comes to playing strategies. While the Cleveland Cavaliers focuses on defensive playing, to guard Golden State’s strong offense and to avoid turnovers, the Golden State Warriors rely heavily on their offense to secure a victory. Furthermore, the two teams are exceptionally different when it comes to coaches. After the David Blatt’s firing in the middle of the 2015-2016 season, Tyronn Lue was appointed as the new coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. During Tyronn’s NBA career, he played on 8 different teams, with two championships. Unlike the Tyronn, not only did Steve Kerr played with Michael Jordan and won 5 NBA titles, his experience as a successful NBA player has given him the opportunity to document different strategies. In addition to strategic planning on the court, the teams share a difference in terms of a game mindset.
