Intellectually curious, interested in a broad range of topics, and committed to a diverse and inclusive society; this is how Honors scholars are characterized and I can confidently state that this is who I am.
Academically speaking, I had an incentive to acquire knowledge of different kinds from a young age; even if I realized that certain subjects were not always suitable for me, I still delved into them with excitement. Learning always was and always will be one of my greatest passion- there is never any harm in getting to know the different facets of our universe and how they connect together to create the place we inhabit. I also credit the people in my life in helping me broaden my academic perspective. From my parents to every single

Society and its complex motion has always held my interest. Most of the core societal values are similar in each country; however, American society had my special attention. It was not that American society was different as much as it was diverse. This country was an intricate web of different cultures and values- different societies unified together to create one open society of varying opinions. More than right or wrong it was a matter of freedom to be the way a person desires to be. The country had a dark history yet many prideful moments and the potential best of this society prompted and urged me to be a part of. Maybe I am too optimistic, but still I want to contribute to creating this vision of a diverse and open society; a society built to include people from all types of backgrounds, interests, and cultures.
I believe I am a good candidate to be an Honors scholar because I have the motivation to immerse myself towards my goal of a more integrated and open society. While college itself will enable me to explore theoretical methods of fulfilling my intentions, Honors College will be the platform I use to expose myself to the practical work of fulfilling my
Being inducted into National Honors Society requires a student to demonstrate all of the four qualities many of our role models in the present and in the past have possessed, which include: scholarship, service, leadership and character. As I’m considered a candidate for this group, I already possess the quality of scholarship and it is my duty in this paper to show that I hold the other three important attributes needed to qualify for this institution.
The Honors Program student embodies the virtues of independence, academic talent, intellectual curiosity, and persistence. In a brief essay, of approximately 500 words, please tell us how your reasons for admission to the Honors Program as well as your long and short terms academic goals speak to these four virtues. In doing so, you might consider the following questions:
I am interested in the Morrissy Honors Program because I am seeking to join a community that values the pursuit of academic excellence and takes the call to global citizenship seriously. From a young age I have enjoyed both learning and applying my knowledge to help others, and I will carry on these values into my role as a Morrissy Honor scholar.
Joining the Honors College will develop my authenticity, not in the sense that I will be a more honest person, but rather, that I will know more about myself and have better reasoning behind my beliefs. The challenging course load that Honors Students face requires a deeper level of reflection. Students must not only know the material, but have a solid foundation behind it. This forces students to question their worldly views, resulting in a reformed person both socially and academically. Striving for a deeper understanding requires my views to constantly evolve.
To be an honors student it means you are responsible and respectful. A honors student should be ready to take a task and fulfil it to the best of their ability. It means they are ready to challenge yourself with complex tasks and complete them responsibly while going above and beyond.
My first source was a personal opinion on a website called Anti Essays. The things they considered an honors student was things such as being hard working and having a good ethic. Being one means that you are willing to put forth the extra work that it takes for you to do even better. One of the quotes they used was "Great works are
From the Honors Living-Learning Community, I would hope to gain essential life skills from the collaboration of neighboring scholars. Living along side some of the campuse’s most motivated, determined, and ambitious students, my entire work ethic would try to resemble those around me. I would enjoy the convenient availability of resources, access to students who are taking similar classes as me, and being able to work together on homework, projects, or group studying sessions in order to achieve mastery in our academics. Aside from an academic standpoint, being a part of an Honors Living-Learning Community would allow for me to not only explore the new community, but, it would also allow for me to participate in community service opportunities
I was born on September the 7th of 1994 in the San Francisco Bay area, not very far from Silicon Valley. The year I was born President Bill Clinton signed the North American Free Trade agreement with Mexico and Canada which helped to stimulate economic growth about twenty years ago. Living in California made my Dad the open-minded liberal that he is today, and because of his love for discussing politics I was raised listening to him have friendly debates with my very republican grandpa over every economic issue from climate change to healthcare. For about a year and a half after I was born my parents, older brother Daniel, golden retriever sandy, and I all lived in a classic colonial style home just south of Santa Clara Valley. My father was the breadwinner in our family working as an engineer for Portola Packaging. A job he was offered not long after graduation from a small private engineering school in upstate New York called Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. My mother also worked full time but as a loan underwriter. After being offered a great relocation package by Portola to the east coast my parents quickly decided to pack up our house and move to Pittsburg Pennsylvania. In addition to being closer to our extended families they also believed that raising a family in Pennsylvania was far
The term “Honors Student” is just a title to some people, but to me it’s much more than just that. Personally, I have strived to be an honors student during high school and want to continue to do the same in college. I would love to join the Honors program due to the opportunities it is offering. At Rowan University, I hope to share my views and ideas with other students and professors. In smaller and enriched classes, with open discussion, I’ll be able to share my opinions, get feedback, and get to know others within the class. I believe the most important aspect of being in the honors program is being surrounded by people like minded. I would greatly enjoy spending my time with others who understand the importance of academics yet are socially
In my opinion, education is one of the most valuable gifts, if not the most valuable gift, that a person can receive. Time and time again, history has shown us that the uneducated are too easily oppressed, controlled, and deceived, and that education is a crucial aspect in making change. I believe that being part of the Honors College will enhance my learning to allow me to better gain the education that I need to stand for my own values and truly make the changes I wish to see in the world. The rigorous coursework and high standards offered by the Honors College will not only assist me in better understanding the world around me, but also enable me to better use critical thinking to “think outside the box,” and empower me to use my talents to help me solve problems, help others, and build a successful
Unlike a lot of my peers, I have lived in several places. I have had countless experiences linked to each place that I have resided, and each one has made a mark on me culturally and intellectually. My entire life has consisted of balancing the cultures and values of two different countries and the cities within them. This has given me a priceless personality trait that differentiates me from a lot of individuals my age: adaptability.
Despite that professor’s hope for me, because I did not engage in the Honors community and because the only Honors classes that I have taken are HON 496, I have not encountered many Honors’ students. However, what I enjoyed about Honors were the opportunities to do individual research. In addition to my thesis, instead of taking
Being in a college atmosphere enhanced my thirst of being recognized for my academics. As a typical college student, I learned what I wanted to major in my first year of college in my Women’s Studies class. With my major, I plan to earn two graduate degrees in Women’s Studies and Public Health. My career goals range from being a women’s health professional with prospects of becoming employed by the Center for Disease Control or the Women’s Health Organization. In addition, I would like to become a mentor for young adults from underprivileged communities who are victims of our declining educational system in America. The Honors College will help to paint my road to success even brighter. Being surrounded by likeminded people who share the motivation to succeed and exceed above limitations creates an atmosphere of future success. With encouraging faculty and staff, future job and career opportunities will be
The Honors Program is exciting yet rigorous, demanding students who are serious and want to learn. It opens doors for students looking to expand their academic horizons by giving them access to alumni, research opportunities, and stimulating classes. JMU should embrace students that would take advantage of these benefits and be able to handle its pressure. I am confident that I embody the characteristics of the Honors program because of my curiosity, independence, and spirit.
The John Wesley Honors College is for driven students who wish to enrich their education in a Christ-centered community. The experience of the Honors College will challenge and empower me to develop into a well informed, deep-thinking, and resourceful servant leader. I have always had a passion for learning. As some kids dread school and learning, I have always been excited and intrigued by it. Learning answers and reasons why to questions has always interested me into discovering truth and ultimately lead to my successful academic career in high school. God has gifted me with this passion for learning and I wish to glorify God in my studies and onto my career later in life. This honors education is nationally renowned and Christ-centered. Giving the glory to God has been a challenge for me during my high school career because I go to a public school. I want to be able to give God all of the Glory in this Christ-centered program where not only my education can flourish, but also my faith will grow stronger. Thinking divergently has been something that many of my teachers have pushed me to do in high school and the opportunity to be a part of this honors college with discussion-style courses that will challenge me to think creatively will continue the learning style that I have been taught and am familiar with. In the Honors College, I will get the chance to work collaboratively with faculty on research
