1. Introduction: Having the capacity to communicate successfully is the most essential of all life aptitudes. Communication style includes the way a message is constructed, form and interpretations based on form. There are many different categories of communication style. In this module we will look at two “categories” of communication style: high/low context and direct/indirect communication styles. Creating your relational abilities can help all parts of your life, from your expert life to social get-togethers and everything in the middle. The capacity to convey data precisely, plainly and as planned, is an indispensable life expertise and something that ought not be ignored. It 's never past the point …show more content…
Speaking in a large hall, partly powered by a solar array, Mr Obama used the Brisbane speech to announce the US would commit $3 billion to a UN fund to help poorer countries fight climate change. In an amphitheatre at the University of Queensland, trimmed with the stars and stripes of American banners, and in the midst of an environment much the same as a US race battle field occasion, the president 's mobilizing call for more activity to cut carbon outflows was punctuated with boisterous salud. No other nation had more in question than Australia when it came to contemplating and following up on environmental transform, he said. On the other hand the world 's most successful businessperson and most powerful philanthropist did something outstandingly bold, that went almost unremarked. Bill gates announced that his top priority is getting the world to zero climate emissions. Entryways talked about his dedication to utilizing his huge humanitarian assets to greatly improve the situation for individuals through general wellbeing and neediness easing. At that point he said something he 's never said previously: that is it in light of the
This assignment will discuss two well known theories of effective communication. Firstly it will look at Michael Argyle (1972), the cycle of communication and then it will discuss Bruce Tuckman (1965) stages of communication.
In this speech he touches on the topic of climate change in which he supported that we needed to change our way of living to save the world. “Some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires and crippling drought and more powerful storms” he created ways to stop ice from melting in
There are 7.3 billion people on Earth (United States Census Bureau, 2016). More specifically, there are 7.3 billion people who depend on Earth for food, water, and shelter. If there is one thing that every living organism has in common, it’s our dependence on the planet to survive. Unfortunately, since the Industrial Revolution, humans have been systematically degrading the Earth and its resources. President Obama’s final State of the Union address was structured around four main points, one of which was centered around innovation (2016). His points focused on the impending reality of climate change and America’s potential to lead the world down a path of sustainability and green innovation. His hour long speech devoted a mere five minutes to climate issues, further suggesting that climate change remains a less pressing issue than the economy, for example, and I felt that he oversimplified an incredibly complex issue. President Obama’s economic appeals paint a hopeful picture without acknowledging the potential pitfalls associated with climate capitalism. However, President Obama’s strong stance claiming that climate change is in fact happening is an incredibly positive step in the fight against climate change.
In his commencement speech in regards to winning a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 alongside the International Panel for Climate Change, concerned Albert Gore addresses the exacerbation of global warming. Albert employs analogies, appeals to logos through cause and effect, metaphors, appeals to ethos through biblical references in his speech. Through the utilization of these rhetorical devices, Gore’s clear purpose is to convince the audience that in order to repair and simultaneously prevent the detrimental effects of global warming, worldwide cooperation -- through both political and societal attitudes -- is vital for the sake of humanity, now and in time to come. Albert uses a formal and suggestive tone throughout his speech.
As one of the world’s leading nation is greenhouse gas emission, America needs to help with the Paris climate accord. Many environmentalists have pointed to the inevitable decline of the coal industry. Business leaders have asserted that the US will lose more potential jobs in clean energy to foreign nations that are still with the Paris agreement. Elton Musk, the chief executive of Tesla, has stated his disappointment in Trump’s move away from the accord and will resign from the White House business councils. Many corporate leaders, politicians, world leaders, and even the Pope has expressed disapproval of the US withdrawal. They assert that as a superpower nation, America has a moral obligation to join in the world’s efforts to save the planet.
Al Gore famously stated on the threat of climate change “The good news is, we have everything we need now to respond to the challenge of global warming. . . . But we should not wait, we cannot wait, we must not wait.” In the early 2000s, the international community was uncertain on how best to address climate change and ensure the world’s increasing development was sustainable. In 2008, the World Bank launched the “Strategic Framework for Development and Climate change” to jump-start public and private sector action against climate change. Included in these proposals was the issuance of “Green Bonds”, an innovative method of encouraging investment in environmental and sustainable development projects across the globe. Green bonds have
The first of the cultural phenomena we will be discussing is communication. Communication is how we interact with others. It consists of conveying information in a way that the person will understand. Communication styles are not just verbal cues, but also nonverbal cues. This may be the words we choose, the tone we use, or the face we are making (Galanti, 2008, p. 27).
There are different styles of communication. The way people communicate varies. One aspect of communication style is language usage. Across cultures, some words and phrases are used in different ways. Another major aspect of communication style is the degree of importance given to non-verbal communication; facial expressions and gestures, personal distance, and sense of time. In addition, different norms regarding the appropriate degree of assertiveness in communicating
In discussions of climate change, one of the controversial issues has been supporting President Barack Obama. His video announcement in the East Room of the White House, President Obama announces the “Clean Power Plan --- our biggest step yet in the fight against climate change” argues that, “Since the President took office, the administration has made the largest investment in clean energy in American History.” The United States has cut more carbon pollution than any other nations since 2008, and solar power has grown 20 times while generating three times more electricity. Obama has created access to solar energy for low and moderate-income households. On the other hand, Obama’s administration
In August 2015 President Obama and the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) finalized their plan to cut carbon pollution and drive climate change, called the Clean Power Plan. President Obama first announced his rededication to Climate change in a speech at Georgetown University, in June of 2013, saying: “I refuse to condemn your generation and future generations to a planet that is beyond fixing” (whitehouse.gov). Indeed, since, Obama has once again stepped back into the belief that fixing our planet is not only what is right, but also it is what is necessary for the people of tomorrow to live in a world that is not damaging to their health.
According to Hackman and Johnson, (2013) “Leadership is human (symbolic) communication that modifies the attitudes and behaviors of others to meet shared group goals and needs.” In my life I have had two careers, first I was a waitress and had a boss named Sandra’s, and the last job I was a para-educator with two different classrooms and teachers who were in charge of me. My experiences with each leader was very different based on the way each of them communicated. Leaders can have contrasting styles of leadership communication including authoritarian, democratic, and laissez-faire (Hackman, & Johnson, 2013).
As a study proved, evaluating the effects of Leonardo DiCaprio’s 2016 Oscar acceptance speech citing climate change, “…tweets including the terms ‘climate change’ or ‘global warming’ reached record highs, increasing 636% with more than 250,000 tweets the day DiCaprio spoke” (Leas et al, 2016). Being a celebrity is not necessary to raise awareness or learn more about this crisis. There are many planned events and campaigns one can attend or do research online in the comforts of home to find ways to help spread the word. Additionally, encouraging members of our social circles to adopt sustainable lifestyles, voting for political representatives who understand the issue, and leading by example, are steps that can be taken that will help save
How can one change the world? Through action! During the month of December, a forum on the climate action was held jointly by Youth Action, FAir 4 All (Fair Air Coalition), and the 10 by 2020 campaign. The discussion focused on the current steps being taken to reduce climate change.
To begin, as it states in the “Nobel Speech” Al Gore says that we need to save us from climate change. In the “Nobel Speech” Al Gore the U.S vice president won an award and he gave a speech. He will talk about how we change the climate change and then there might be some problems in the future like the ice caps.
Bill Gates: Well I feel like we as human beings cause the greatest of harm to ourselves. I am quite concerned about the man-made climate change occurring due to deforestation, spreading of pollution and waste and other similar actions. The climate change will have the greatest impact on the population dependent upon agricultural activities. The poor farmers will suffer the most since crops will be ruined and their earnings will be lost. But I have a plan to tackle this challenge; I have planned to spend about $2 billion towards supporting green technology. My foundation will work closely with the agricultural sectors and focus on inculcating innovation in this sector (Eveleth R., 2014).
