Communication System Operators are communication professionals within the Royal Corps of Signals; engineering and operating both digital and satellite communication systems, including maintenance of communication networks (British Army, 2014). After phase one training Communication Systems Operators conduct initial trade training, within the Royal School of Signals which consists of both theory and practical training, to which formative and summative performance standards are assessed over 32 weeks of training (DSCIS, 2011). The training establishment is regimented; this is reflected in the education strategies used in the conduct of initial training. The strategies currently used could be considered as, old fashioned, perhaps more …show more content…
Key to the promotion of independent learning is the implementation of whole-school policy at the strategic level, which currently does not exist in any of the documentation mentioned (Department for Children, Schools and Families 2008, 8,). A paper by DSCIS (2013) indicates the challenges to the approach of affordability in times of Defence financial austerity and how the establishment will move toward continuously improving training outputs, by updating training using new technology and learning strategies with the reduction of a number of instructor posts. Now is potentially the time to invest in independent learning as by doing so it lessens the need for students to have direct instructor intervention, with students finding and using learning materials independently creating more cost-effective instruction (Twigg, 1995).
Not only is the support of the establishment important but both the relationship of the teacher and student to successfully promote independent learning (Department for Children, Schools and Families 2008, 2). To overcome some barriers with independent learning, the teachers must understand that independent learning does not undermine their role as instructors, they must overcome the necessity to direct learning in the traditional method and be open minded to new developing methods of learning (Department for Children, Schools and Families 2008, 8,). To achieve this approach
An independent setting is where they have more freedom. They may not reply on government funding and also they may not have to follow the EYFS or the national curriculum.
At one of my settings the children were given time each day for independent learning. This means the children are free to choose what they would like to do from a choice of activities like painting, construction, graphics, and reading. There are so many different strategies in which a setting can use self-reliance. Two strategies that I’ve picked are independent learning and morning routine. Children need routines to give them security. It reassures them that they are safe and in a caring and loving environment. When the children come in they know that they have to put their coat and bags on their pegs. These pegs are named and some settings have a picture next to their peg. The pegs are at their level which makes the job easier for the child. All of this encourages independence as the children are self-reliant and they don’t have to rely on the teacher. This improves the child’s self-efficacy as they start to believe that they can perform certain tasks by themselves it also makes the child aware of their strengths and weakness.
In school now, many teachers are willing to give answers to students who did not even attempt to solve the presented problem. This idea of spoon-feeding answers allows students to succeed without fully understanding the material, and when they are tested on the information, they will have a harder time scoring well because they did not learn on their own. Therefore, Emerson’s idea of independent education would allow students to challenge themselves to produce answers individually, without the help of a teacher right away, and this would make sure they have a more solid understanding of the curriculum. Emerson writes, “But this function of opening and feeding the human mind is not to be fulfilled by any mechanical or military method,” (Emerson, 191). This quote explains how immediately providing students with the correct answers is almost unnatural and the least suitable way of retaining information. Besides forcing answers upon students who are not given the time to formulate it themselves, our school district also imposes a strict curriculum.
Therefore, young children should be guided through multiple techniques in order to attain independence, self-discipline, and initiative. I believe that by promoting individuality as well as relying on consequences will allow young children to strengthen their independence. Through consequences, young children learn that what we do affects ourselves or peers. Another factor that needs to be considered when strengthening independence would be avoiding unmet needs. As we help young children to understand their own needs we are helping guide them to solving the problem and gaining what they require in order to be successful.
1.2 Independent schools rely on fees and money from investments they don’t receive government funding. They will have an entrance exam and they also devise their own curriculum framework. Independent schools have
When in the course of life events the amount of work we are given by the teachers in school needs to become independent from the student. This is described to why they deserve to be independent. It’s essential, as students, to come up with our own Declaration of Independence and why we will be independent from the work that is given from the AP teachers.
Students will receive the lesson in small groups. The highest ability group will receive the lesson first and be released to work on the independent practice alone while the teacher works with lower ability groups on completing the practice
Approaching the task of having to communicate with your customers to affectively resolve their problem can be a difficult task, therefore using various negotiation techniques in the process will be very important. Before anyone would contact a customer regarding their problem, you would always need to know what has to be achieved in the long run of the discussion, as you will effectively be working towards what’s best for their service whilst it being beneficial towards both customer and the organisation. Sometimes customers may need something improved on their service which is out of the ordinary, therefore it is my task to comprise and introduce other products or services that we have available to offer in order for their satisfaction and a positive customer experience. Listening carefully is one of the most crucial aspects of negotiation, as you must be able to offer new products and services whilst communicating with customers, which can be proven to be quite the task itself, therefore you would always have to be alert and listen very carefully to their needs in order to offer them the correct product or service for their need.
Within this context over the past ten years’ the term ‘personalised learning’ gained political capital and could be considered as a defining feature of the UK’s educational system. (Miliband 2004)
Because education is one of the most important aspects of a child’s life, it is necessary to make sure you build the right kind of learning environment. In Education by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he discusses how the ideal form of learning should come from a classroom environment in which the child is enthusiastic to learn while also being challenged. Emerson believes that self-education is the most proficient way to create academic success. Because he advocated for more independent learning, Emerson also supported smaller class sizes so education could become more personal. His idea of a personal, yet rigorous, learning environment should be implemented throughout Appoquinimink School District
This situation does not present itself as an ‘open response’ environment where children are able to bring their own experiences to the table, which in this situation, could be costly to both student and the educator. Every student has different ways of learning and according to Gardner (1999) there are nine types of intelligences. They are Verbal-linguistic, Logical-mathematical, Spatial-visual, Bodily-kinaesthetic, Musical intelligences, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Naturalist and Existential intelligence. The activity mentioned above only foster for the verbal-linguistic learning
Independent reading involves a child reading on their own and applying skills observed from a parent reading aloud or from guided and shared reading with a teacher.
If the independent study unit was removed from the curriculum than only a select few amount of students would be fluent readers because no students would be influenced to read. The independent study unit forces people to read due to the fact that if people don't read they won't be successful in the unit. If the independent study unit was not part of the curriculum than the academic English standard would significantly drop due to the few amount of people that read frequently and fluently. It teaches students to practice because in the unit students read several novels of different levels which will increase their academic reading range. For the reason that it will academically improve reading skills I believe the independent study unit should remain part of the English curriculum.
the procedure he used with this company to set this up. The main thing that I took from what he did was that there was always lots of communication between all the decision makers in the group. This is something that we did not do an excellent job of when trying to get a system set up to acquire customer feedback data. It appears every member of executive management has his or her idea of how this should be done, when it should be done, and what information was to be obtained. At no time did they all sit down and conclude an answer to these questions so the employees trying to come up with the system were having to change things each time someone reviewed it. Just having simple communication between all involved would go a long way to
We can help the child attain independence by giving opportunity for him to work with the materials by himself, by directing him towards a given end to develop his will, by giving him constructive work to help him in developing discipline, by letting him know and have an understanding of what is good and bad and also giving him freedom to reveal himself completely by playing only passive role.
