One of the many community service projects that I have been involved in during community college is Jaxon’s Cure. Jaxon’s Cure is an organization founded to raise awareness to vaccinate children against preventable diseases. The organization started after the family's son Jaxson was diagnosed with Subacute Sclerosing Pan Encephalitis derived from the measles virus. Tragically, Jaxon passed away in 2008 at age 8. For many years the senior members of the Gig Harbor 4-H have worked for this fundraising event. I have been assigned to handle the guest checklist and ticket sales/donations. Checking guest in, I carefully recorded their names and their family into the guest book and answer any questions they had. Next, they purchases a ticket to enter
The Orrville Area United Way was founded in 1958 by a group of citizens concerned with the growing poverty in Orrville, Dalton, and Marshallville. They focused their efforts on the children in the area. In 1986, Helen was hired part-time and when the Executive Director retired, Helen was offered the position.
Currently, I am in the process of earning my Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a pre-medical emphasis from Grand Canyon University. Upon graduation, I hope to attend either a medical or physician assistant school. My specific goal in the medical field is still up in the air, however, I am avidly exploring the fields of pathology, oncology, emergency medicine, and surgery. My interest in the medical field was sparked by my human anatomy and physiology class during my senior year of high school. Put simply, my life in high school was rough, and I was completely lost, as far as my career decisions were concerned. I enrolled in a human anatomy course, to fill a hole in my schedule during my senior
As vice president of my school's NHS chapter, I am an advocate for good causes. Our service project this year is a substantial charitable endeavor. In 1996, a fellow NHS member and friend lost a sibling to SIDS. To assist his family's fight for a cure, our chapter initiated a fundraiser. Tee-shirt sales raised thousands of dollars; a ceremony at a football game advertised our cause to the community; our slogan “Big Steps for Baby Steps” galvanized the school; a partnership with the CJ Foundation for SIDS legitimized our efforts with sponsors. Each of the school's clubs and teams has dedicated itself to the cause. A 5k in May is our culminating event. Uniting an entire school and community behind such a worthy cause is gratifying. The other
Our group, which consisted of Ricardo Carrillo, Emilee Cocuzzo, Sidd Dogra, Wurood Mandawi, and Trung Ngo, worked collectively on putting on a successful bingo and bake sale night for the YMCA. We ended up raising $ to help with the teenagers of the YMCA to go on their annual college trip during the summer.
It is apparent that the individual is out of touch with his/her environment, as we live in a time of isolation. This view of a frightful outside world is a common mindset in people, prompting them to stay home with the excuse that some things are not worth experiencing. Beyond this misconception, is a world that although may need some work, has opportunities for every kind of person. In fact, a "frightful outside world" can change with the contribution of a helping hand; this is what makes community service imperative. There is no better way to encourage students in assisting their communities than implementing service requirements in High School, and various sources explain the benefits behind these standards. A few of these excerpts include "Community Service
Building productive and lasting relationships is what I do best. I am a personable, organized, and dedicated individual that has worked with customers and clients to consistently achieve exceptional results.
I chose to complete a fundraiser with The Helpers Organization, which is a nonprofit information and referral program located in Norfolk, Virginia. The Helpers Organization was founded in 2008 by Antwan Staton, as a 501(c) (3) non-profit. It provided utility bills assistance, career programs, and personal growth workshops to the less fortunate people in the Hampton Roads community. They are also a referral program, which provides assistance on a case by case basis. Their utility program is to help clients on a one time basis. After the client receives the Helpers Organization assistance they are encouraged to recover from their situation, without further assistance. However, The Helpers Organization can refer the client to other resources, if necessary. The Helpers Organization primary goal is to help the community of Hampton Roads, by encouraging them to do better with little assistance.
There was is no interview process. However, there was a 22-page application. I was told to complete the application and return it with a copy of my driver’s license, two non-family references. Skills I have that can be utilized in this position are my able to relate to children, my keen desire to work children, my willing to learn, my enthusiasm, tact, patience and a sense of humor. Skills I wish you to use more are my problem-solving skills, my literacy and numeracy skills.
Many people do community service, in and out of school. However, many haven't had the event opportunities I've had in the past. For this reason I am grateful for being a member of Key Club. Through my Key Club experience I have been able to assist families who have had to dealt with cancer and abuse. In the month of October alone, I have been able to to attend two walks for cancer. The first walk I attended was the Annual Believe Walk, hosted at Redlands. Waking up at 4:30am and volunteering with such an amazing organization might have been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had the pleasure to experience. The second was the Light the Night Leukemia and Lymphoma Walk, hosted at Fontana. Attending this walk was a different experience
Community outreach gives me a chance to know more the society and different programs. Project ride is one of the community service program. It is a nonprofit community service organization located at Elk Grove, which is the institution to help children with special needs, such as autism, learning disabilities, developmental delay, brain injuries, and so on by providing horseback riding. The mission of Project Ride is to improve physical, emotional, and social functioning through participation structured and safe problem (projectride.org). At the beginning, project ride only serves the children from the nearby school districts. As they get more supporting from business and personal donation, they expand their program and accept more and more
I believe that volunteering is an important experience that shows us to just how a group of individuals can come together for a common and selfless good. While volunteering at the Croatian Cultural Center I was able to truly see men, women, and children all come together to celebrate their Croatian heritage. While I was there, I was able to read to children not only in Croatian, but with Croatian books and texts that had significant cultural references and meaning. I also taught children and young adults cultural dances and saw just how important it was to be able to connect back to your heritage and culture even though you were an ocean away. I would describe my experience as being: fulfilling, genuine, and hopeful.
On 10/3/16 at 1838 hrs, I was dispatched to a Lewd & Lascivious Molestation call for service at PEMHS (11254 58th St, Pinellas Park, FL 33782). Dispatched advised complainant daughter was inappropriately touched by another female patient while she was at PEMHS.
The community service project I am most proud of is my senior project. I planned and ran a youth baseball clinic. I am most proud of this because I had a chance to work with kids who reminded me of my younger self. It was great to reconnect with why I love the game of baseball while helping someone younger with their baseball skills. Another program I’ve been involved in is the Ashland Football programs, Rent-A-Player program. Rent-A-Player is a service for people who live in Ashland that need help doing miscellaneous jobs. I was hired a handful of times, and it connected me with many Ashland residents. I have also been involved with many other community service opportunities. Throughout my last four years this has helped me connect with
My project involved helping the children in the park to better their skills in Baseball. Many of the children that went to the park had no basic knowledge of playing baseball, so it was my job to help the professional trainers in teaching them the skills required to play the sport well. The original proposal included that I had to maintain the field in playable conditions, but I went ahead and added dirt as well as passed a rake to remove holes in the infield of the baseball diamond. I also had to help the smaller children in batting practice by simply pitching them ten balls each, but I took it a step further by telling them in which way to position their arms and how to better their hitting techniques.
Service learning has given me the new opportunity experience helping others and including myself. I enjoy volunteer work because It’s a way of giving back to the community, but also I’ve become confident in public speaking. In addition, volunteer work is a great rewarding experience, and it 's also helped me develop social skills, by supporting others. The contribute can make a positive impact in many ways, Barack Obama said, “ the best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the work with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.” There are element that could promise will succeed in life, however, I believe to learn and discover. I will continue volunteering work whenever I can, and I strongly encourage people to join volunteer work because the meaningful impact the lives of their and help thousands of the students confront in reading. It was a great pleasure for me to contribute to the organization to the development of the community through Political Science class volunteering work. The impact that was able to make our community better future.
