Challenges: At my age it was definitely a good learning experience. Being able to adapt to a paramilitary style of training has been my greatest challenge. At times, when adapting to the traditional ways of the academy has taken me out of my comfort. Not having prior military background and coming from private sector has been an eye opening experience for me.
Biggest strength: Desire and determination to succeed, being resourceful, follow through any assignments or projects, trustworthy and being 100 % committed to service. I expected to learn and gain knowledge, and there is a great deal of information to take in which is more than I expected. The course structure has been tremendously beneficial for my learning. The teaching style is
Strength 1: I am very organized and I am able to stay on top of multiple tasks at once. I am currently a TA and a full-time student, and a volunteer at the crisis line and at Camp Kesem. Because of my responsibilities, I need to stay actively organized
A second strength would be an individualized consideration provided to each team member with a focus on self-interest which as a key advantage to accomplishing good work. My team trusts my guidance as their leader because they know that in the end I have their success as individuals in mind. Over time I have proven to them that I have no personal agenda to adhere to and therefore the decisions I make with regard to them are solely for their benefit. I am able to delegate tasks to individuals that I believe are willing and excited to accept the task at hand, whether they believe they are ready or not. It is my belief in others to rise to any challenge that fuels my strength as a leader. Only when they do not succeed, do I find it necessary to intervene and take action. This foundation of trust is also vital to my success as a leader.
My greatest strength is my motivation to take on challenging tasks that help me step out of my comfort zone. In High school, I was in JROTC and took on the responsibility of taking two leadership roles as the Battalion Adjutant and Color Guard Commander. As the Battalion Adjutant, I was in charge of processing cadet’s records and administrative data. I ensured that all necessary paperwork was properly completed in a timely manner to make our events successful. As the Color Guard Commander, I led and mentored a group of 8 students and taught them basic drill movements. We presented the colors at various events such as football games and special ceremonies. Through my 2 years of experience in these positions, I learned how to take the initiative
My personal strengths are that I am a keen learner and organized person because like Benjamin Franklin I believe that if I fail to plan then I am planning to fail. Above all I am confident that I have made the right choice and that I am a suitable candidate for
Last strength, I want to mention is my desire to serve and help. This skill implies sensitivity to the needs of others, their problems, interests, joys, sufferings, hopes and illusions; I am able to accept even the deepest and painfully human problems, misfortune, and loneliness. I try to deliver to the task and above with the people whom I work. I try to provide a warm welcome to everyone, so there is no opening of misinterpretation of discrimination.
I have prepared myself for the various challenges presented by a military service academy in a number of ways. Academically, I continue to learn the material taught to me in depth rather than just memorizing it by studying daily, taking well written notes on every lecture, and by reading the textbooks provided to me. I have also taken a number of AP, dual credit, and honors classes, equipping me with tools and knowledge I can use at a service academy to excel academically. I have prepared myself physically by participating actively in martial arts, running daily, and going to a local gym. Martial arts has improved my strength, stamina, and agility, allowing me to flourish in other athletic areas. Through running and going to the gym, I
Strengths are “natural talents and abilities that have been supported and reinforced with learned knowledge and skills.” (Daft, ch.15) My personal strengths have developed over time and will continue to evolve as I learn more about leadership and management. My strengths are: an Internal Locus of Control, Authentic Leadership and Emotional Intelligence.
Another strength I have is professional competence. I am a team player at school/work, I respect/understand other diversities, I am professional in the way I address others, and I accept supervision feedback in a satisfactory manner. After my assignments are graded on canvas, I try to reach out to the professor on feedback that I can help me improve professionally and academically.
I believe my strength is understanding how important personal relations are when it comes to doing business with people from other cultures. I was deployed to Kyrgyzstan for five months and I had the honor to interact with multiple Kyrgyz individuals. They are a hospitable, genuine and humble people. I was able to form important and fruitful relationships because I sought to develop a knowledge of their culture and place a higher value on personal relationships over business dealings. My experience was, as they began to trust me as a
Moreover, I would say that my strongest strengths are being honest and direct, being strong willed and being extremely responsible. Being in the military, integrity is extremely important to me. I’m a firm believer in “honesty is the best policy,” and I definitely am not fond of wasting time, beating around the bush, when there is a deadline to meet. Strong willed and dutiful describes me as well. Doing my utmost to complete a task in the time frame required or if at all possible, ahead of schedule is of great importance. Lastly, I would say that I am exceptionally responsible. Loyalty falls under this category; I consider loyalty just as seriously as I regard integrity, for the reason that a loyal person is a trustworthy and dependable asset not
I expected coming into this course and not having a clue what I was doing. I also expected not being able to complete each task properly and on time. The reason I was expecting these things to happen was because I am not good at the technical side of writing. I am often discouraged from writing about topics that I do not want to write about; also learning the technical parts of writing can be frustrating for me. I thought that I was going to be overloaded with chapters to read and a ton of work that I did not want to do; however, this was not the case.
Before I started taking this course and by the time I had taken this course I had already completed some college courses so I was a little confused as in to why I needed to have this class but I took it and decided I would just do what was required and it would be no big deal. After starting this course I have learned a few things about myself and myself as a learner that has been very helpful and the content of the course makes more sense to me now than before I started. Learning about my learning styles and seeing my learning process on paper helps me to be more self-aware of the decisions that I make and why I make them, which I believe helps me grow more because I have a better understanding of why I like things a certain way. I have learned that I do not like reading instructions because I just want to get straight to the point of what is needed and what the end result needs to be. I have to be able to apply what I have read or learned to real life, I do not like to live in a fictitious world however I have a very vivid imagination and I like to think outside the box. I like to take things apart and put them back together and that helps me understand and learn better.
Firstly, to talk about why I have taken this course and how this course have transformed me by the end of the course is incredible and amazing. To be frank when I was taking this course the only expectation for me on this course is to learn how to interact with people because I am poor on it. But what this course has provided me is great and it has transformed me into an enter new person all together. Right from the beginning of the course the materials and handouts that were provided were intuitive and all of them makes the student get involved in the concepts.
Something that I wanted to learn from this course is to have better skills on how to pick a career path or paths that would best be suited for me. When it comes to deciding on a career, I have always looked at the big picture and forget about looking at the small details. I feel like this course did help prepare me for the future and I will definitely look back at the notes I took and the papers I wrote.
Throughout the progression of this course I felt highly motivated to learn different material every week. Honestly, I think I enjoyed every single bit of information I received while taking this course. I learned so many new topics and I was able to hear from other’s perspectives.
