In the five years since Kenna and Val’s wedding night, the world enjoyed an unprecedented period of peace. The only action Kenna and Val ever experienced was their weekly sparring session outside the castle. Val insisted that she and Kenna keep their fighting skills sharp and Kenna agreed on the basis that Val, occasionally, dressed for a formal event and acted dignified. After a few hours, they walked, hand in hand to their horses and began their ride back to the castle, when they noticed a small camp filled with mercenaries in the forest. Kenna rode up and asked these men to state their business, to which one of them replied, “funny you should ask, because it’s you!” Without warning, the mercenaries attacked, only to find out that it was …show more content…
You don’t face anything alone. Your problems are my problems and we stick together no matter what.” Kenna pressed her lips to Val’s; there was something about seeing Val get worked up was so attractive to her and it felt good to have someone so loyal to her. “Okay,” Kenna said, “Tomorrow we will figure out what to do. Are you happy now?” Val kissed Kenna and said, “very; now let’s get some sleep.” The following morning, Kenna expressed that she didn’t want innocent lives to be put at risk, so Val came up with an idea, “What if we go to the Foundry and borrow the Mechataur? That thing was pretty useful before and I’m sure Whitlock wouldn’t mind.” Kenna’s eyes lit up and she gave Val a long kiss, “that’s such a good idea, Val!” she said. “Those are the only kind I have,” said Val with a grin, “we should leave soon.” After a long journey, Kenna and Val made it to the Foundry and were greeted by Whitlock, who had grown into a young man since they had last seen him. A hug from Kenna and a handshake from Val later, it was time to get down to business. “It would be simple enough for me to repair the Mechataur,” explained Whitlock, “but I’m not sure if it’s the right thing to do.” Kenna placed her hand on Whitlock’s shoulder, “I know this is a difficult decision for you, but we are facing someone with a personal vendetta against me and I don’t want to risk the lives of Stormholt soldiers. You’re a good
The knight shows his true chivric colors by saying “My lady and my love, my dearest wife, I leave the matter to your wise decision.” (406-407) By allowing his wife to chose for him he displays true chivalry. He is also allowing to choose what she wants for her husband; this is a recall to the answer she gave him to save his life.
This is a prime example of satire directed at chivalry today. People seem to think that chivalry is rooted so far in the past that it’s gone. I can say that it may be gone from some minds, but definitely not all. To be a good and true knight, a man had to follow certain ideals, ideals of chivalry and courtly love. That consisted of, being
Val who is going through a messy divorce and bankruptcy seems to be carrying a lot of emotional stress and frustration which is clearly seen in her constant mood swings and quick temper. Since Jess is a vulnerable 30 year old man with learning difficulties, he seeks support from Val to help him with his basic needs on a day to day basis. However Val seemed to be out of control when Jess started crying and therefore tried to re-gain control over the situation by acting out with
It is largely acknowledged by historians that, while it is difficult to be definitive in the meaning of chivalry-with Maurice Keen believing it to be a ‘word elusive of definition’- it came to denote the culture of a martial estate which ‘regarded war as its hereditary profession’. Thus, it could be considered that the violence of war had large implications on what people began to perceive to be chivalry. Additionally, the focus on violence- such as the participating in tournaments and jousts- further emphasises the close link between carrying out violent acts and the idea that a knight was being chivalrous.
He quickly dressed, grabbed his sword, and ran outside ready for action. Then he finally heard what people were shouting about. The British captured his family. He immediately rushed to the general’s tent, burst in it, hollering, “We must save them!” He saw with shock that the general’s pistol was on him. “Oh, it’s you,” said the general setting down his gun. “Now what’s all this about saving who and doing what?” he said. “My wife! And children!” Matthew gasped trying to catch his breath. “Why? What has happened?” the general inquired. “The redcoats have taken my family captive and I need permission to lead a rescue mission,” stated Major Matthew. “Granted!” barked the general, “Matthew! Get them home.” Matthew smiled and sprinted out of the tent calling to his men to prepare for battle and on the double. Five minutes later his men were in a diamond formation awaiting orders. “Innocent people’s lives are at stake,” roared Matthew, ”As a matter of fact my family’s lives are stake and they are being held hostage by the vile lobster-backs. I would ask you to follow me to save them and I would be forever in any man’s debt if he comes and fights for me. Who is with me!” he shouted. Matthew was surprised that not only all of his men cheered, but that 300 more voices around him also bellowed out. Recovering from his shock he said, “ We
Literary and commercial fiction are the two types of fiction that Authors all over the world present to readers. Commercial fiction always entertains readers and this is the point, to provide a story that anyone can enjoy. Literary fiction does not offer a clear way for one to understand and literary fiction is not created to be understood. Literary fiction makes readers do all the work and find meanings all by oneself. It is vital to be able to determine a literary work from a commercial one to fully grasp a work and the methods to determining one from another is easier than one thinks.
Sometimes I cannot stand it. All that I ask for is his life.”9 Margaret at this point has lost nearly everything of her life before the war. However, she would give it all up just of have her husband. Her husband fought and lost his live because of the war; his wife, however, suffered for years from her grief for the man she loved. The life that Margaret had knew, simply began destroyed. She tried to keep hope that maybe out of everything that she lost that her husband would not be part of it. Unfortunately, she was wrong, and she lived with the consequences of the war for the rest of her
She knew I'd keep her secrets safe. Having her back made me feel less alone. Willa had always been the one I trusted above everyone". (Abbi 124). He knew at the beginning, they both were perfect together and nothing can separate them but life happens, he regrets his decision of letting her go more than anything. Now alone by himself, he knows how it feels to have someone important to him, comfort him every day. Things sometimes maybe sucked but they passed and eventually, they got better. Once you trust someone, you will never turn your back on them even during the hardest time of all, you just can't. It's like sword and shields, you can't attack without sword but can't break without shields. ""I'll teach you. I have faith in you, Willa Ames. You'll be my wingman before it's all over," Gunner said." Like Gunner implied, we can learn from the mistake, trust each other and improve from
In her article, Magdalena Kay brings up the idea that students feel the need to go to college in order to obtain a job that makes enough money to support the lifestyle that they want (3). These students want to go to universities to earn their degree so that they can achieve their blissful little life with a gratifying job, but for students, it is not always possible to make it to a university right away as planned. Frequently universities cost too much, people are not mature enough, their grades are not satisfactory, or they need to work and do not have the time for classes; this is where community colleges come into play. They can be a great option for people who are unable to go straight to a four-year college and they allow students to get most of their general classes out of the way and help them work towards a bachelor 's degree. A majority of students transfer to a four-year college from community colleges by virtue of the benefits of it, but through the process over 50 percent of students lose some portion of their credits and this sets them back on their path to earning a degree. While transferring has copious benefits for students, there are not a multitude of options for paths between colleges to transfer.
This woman, came all the way from her land in search for this man in my opinion is something that a man would instead do. She gives him gifts, “horse had been saddled,” “Lanval was richly served.” The woman tells him after confessing her love that he would lose her for good if he ever spoke of their love. Lanval, who you’d think would be a “Brave manly knight” has no problem being demanded and agrees.
It was April 2, 1862 there were preparations for a battle that will never be forgotten. Military all over PIttsburg landing were preparing for a battle that will later be known as The Battle of Shiloh. There at the frontline of this situation was Jason, a seemingly normal guy who just wanted to help anyway he could in the war. Jason heard the faint sounds of people working in the distance. “Is there anyway I can help you?” Jason inquired “I don’t see why not.” said one of the workers. He tried to help them carry food and supplies yet, he was not strong enough to do this job efficiently.
I invited Duke to Sourdi’s wedding, because I couldn’t stand bare to see Sourdi to follow through with this crazy plan. “So what do you want me to do about it,” Duke questioned, acting like he had forgotten ow Sourdi once felt about him. “Sourdi’s life is in danger. We can’t just watch her give up her life!” I firmly said to him. “Okay then...” Hesitated Duke, “so what’s the plan?”
Scuttling innocently through the twisting corridors I bore the same expression; head down, shoulders hunched, avoiding any eye contact - my desperate attempts to deter the despot for one day at least. Despite my efforts, there was no escape, as seemingly within the second of having that naively optimistic thought, a cruel, callous voice demanded I surrender my broach. Fear spiked, as it always did, but with it came something else, an alien emotion ... Looking back now, I see that it must have been the cumulative effect of months of torment that brought me to the realisation that at this point I had reached the nadir of my life. Deriding cackles pierced my ears and this time I recognised the emotion, fury. It burned through my veins, along with the memories of the past to form a feeling of overwhelming power. I met the daggers that would usually invoke terror, and calmly, I said “No.”
Fearless For Love was a slow burn for me, it took a little while for the characters to get together and really give each other a chance. I enjoyed their friendship and love for each other. Jessica was such a strong heroine, with so much to give. Jessica just needed someone to show her that life with someone you love could really be great. That’s where Harrington comes in. He very is cocky, conceited, but has a heart of gold. When Harrington finally showed the real loving, sensitive side of him, Jessica couldn’t help but fall for him. Harrington was all about taking care of Jessica and giving her everything he could ever give. Jessica and Harrington understood each other and fit perfectly together. I enjoyed reading their story from flirting
In the poem, The Love song, written by T.S. Elliot, J Alfred Prufrock is a man who is very lonely and insecure. He goes throughout his life wishing for a change, but never stepping up to the plate and actually making a change. The title of the poem portrays to the reader that the poem is going to be full of love and romance. The reader soon found out later that the poem is just the opposite from the title, a sad, lonesome man who is not only lacking love, but also lacking self confidence and self esteem.
