Welcome to the 2016-2017 computer class at Our Lady of Victory School! Please read this entire document with your child and sign and return the last page ONLY. This shows you and your child understand the expectations and procedures for computer class.
Class Description
In computer class students will learn a variety of computer/technology skills and responsible technology use. In today’s world it is essential for students to be able to use many forms of technology effectively and responsibly for their learning. Students will develop understanding of digital citizenship (Internet safety, cyberbullying, ethical computer use), keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets and data, presentation tools, coding/programming, problem solving,

Students will need to provide a folder to keep any work, as well as login information. This needs to be brought to class each week.
Students will be required to have Internet access, whether that be through home use or through public wi-fi such as a library. Much of the work in the class is completed at school, however several assignments do have work at home as needed.
Classroom Expectations
Students will enter the classroom in a quiet and orderly fashion. 6th-8th grade students will usually start at their computer stations. Students will exit in the same fashion when leaving the lab.
Each student will have an assigned computer station and headphones and treat these with care. Headphones should be bagged and placed in the bin at the end of class.
Students will work on assignments independently unless otherwise specified.
If students have a question, a raised hand will alert the teacher to the need. Leaving your computer station is not an appropriate way to seek help.
Students are to remain on task with the materials given. Searching the Internet, going to sites not approved, checking personal email, or spending time on other work outside of computers without permission is a breach of the Acceptable Use Policy of Our Lady of Victory Handbook, and will be assessed as a disciplinary concern as well as a loss of computer time during class.
Students will close all programs, save all work, and leave their computer on the home screen or desktop at the end of the class.

In the school each classroom has a smart board with speakers that is positioned in front center of the room. The teachers are outfitted with a MacBook laptop that they can travel with and hook up to the smart board. These computers are equipped with smart notebook, which allows them to write on slides, insert videos, graphs and even games. Teachers use Google Drive to upload lesson plans, documents and materials into a shared folder. Each classroom has a bookshelf full of text books pertaining to the main teachers subject. Some books are Advanced Placement and some for Regents material. There are teacher editions and even DVDs for resources in the

The library has plenty of computers for students to use on research papers, online homework, or ideas for their projects. The computers also give students a chance to increase their knowledge through their research on different topics. The main purpose of the AC library to be equipped with computers is to “support class-related assignments”; therefore, students are only allowed to use computers only for homework, essays, or projects (“Computer Use Policy,” 1). The library’s computers give students free access to the internet and programs such as Microsoft Office as well as many others that will allow them to complete their homework assignments or projects. Jennifer Lacy is a student that goes very often to the library to use a computer to do her online homework and she believes that “the library provides a good amount of computers for anybody who needs them.” Lacy informs that the library also allows students to print out papers with a small fine of ten cents per page for black and white and twenty-five cents for color; this information could also be found on the Angelina College website under Library. If a student were to have trouble with the computers or printing, there is always a librarian available to help the
Computers and technological devices have been heavily used in millions of elementary classrooms throughout the world. While many people believe this is a beneficial thing some think it is taking over the traditional ways of learning and damaging their social interaction. All the colors and sounds on the screen attract children and make them think that what they are learning is fun and enjoyable. Using computers in the classroom is very beneficial, but it should not be replacing traditional ways of education. As Elizabeth Bohnhorst, author of Floppy Disk Fallacies, stated “…computers are being used more and more frequently as a substitute for books, blackboards, and in some cases, the teachers themselves (251-252)”. Students will soon not have the need to bring pencils, paper, and even a backpack to class because everybody will be using computers as a means of learning. Moreover, computers should be used only as a tool to assist learners and make certain tasks accomplishable more efficiently while also keeping traditional ways of learning.
Setting up classroom protocols at the beginning of the course allows students and teachers to be more comfortable in the classroom setting. Moreover, Visible weekly schedule this is a simple tool that allows students to view the activities for the day as well as for the week. Students know what to expect when they walk into class and what they may have missed if they were absent. In addition to that, Students often struggle to get their materials organized and keep them organized. A 3-ring binder is a tool that can be required of each student and used daily in class. Possible binder sections include warm-up pages, grade sheets, notes, classwork sections and journal space. Furthermore, having an absence folder system can really help manage absent students. Each

With the advancement of the technology, it immerses more and more in our everyday life. It surrounds us, helps us to overcome the problems that arise and assists in our everyday life. At the same time, it also surrounds our children who have to learn how to deal with the emerging technological environment. The ever growing importance of the computer technologies has also evolved to be used in the classroom for educating children. It is no doubt that such inclusion is necessary, considering the developments of our society.
In the past, academic and administrative computer systems were isolated, either for security reasons or as a result of limited interconnectivity with other computers. Today, nearly any information that an administrator, teacher, student or parent might is available through a network connection. Course lectures are presented are viewed and students submit their assignments via the internet school class shell. Student and parents can view their grades online, administrative paperwork and other information can be shared through a variety of systems. The internet is an awesome and convenient way to communicate, but it introduces
This topic was of concern to faculty because when students are leaving classroom during exams, they might be cheating. When students go to the bathroom, they could cheat in that time by telephone or flash card. Students could open google and search the answer of the questions in the bathroom. Also, they could take flash card via their pocket and show it in the bathroom.
Park’s classroom is designed to limit student distractions. The students are seated facing the board in columns and rows. This seating arrangement is used during the warm-up and instructional period. However, when the students are working independently, they have the option to work by themselves or rearrange their desks to work with their peers. The teacher’s desk is off to the side so that each student is visible while the teacher is at the desk, although Mrs. Park rarely sits at her desk during the class period. The frequently used materials such as calculators, paper, pencils, and textbooks are easily accessible but do not impair students’ ability to see the
Seeing every student working independently on their laptop Mrs. F had procedures in place. Mrs. F had the web site instructions on the white board for students. They have the link to the website save on the desktop and students have their log in username and password written on an index card. Also, when working on kahoot students knew how to log in, but if they did not Mrs. F allowed students walk around to help those who were not able to log in. Overall, students were familiar with using the laptops
It is really amazing how excited students get with the possiblity of using the computer in the classroom to assist them with their lesson. The teacher added that she uses it as a reward system, stating how affective it is in maintaining order and control in the classroom. Students knew how to navigate, go to various websites that were related to the lesson and create a folder in which to put their assignments in.
