Executive Summary Computers, wifi and tablets have resulted in student success while in school. “Wi-Fi has become a universal expectation among students, and their attitudes towards technology are a good indicator of broad changes underway in how we as a society learn, work and communicate,” said Edgar Figueroa, executive director of the Wi-Fi Alliance, the global trade organization representing the Wi-Fi industry. Nearly 75% of US college students believe WiFi access on their college campus helps them get better grades, according to a recent survey conducted for the Wi-Fi Alliance. Getting new technology equipment can change a lot in a student 's learning capacity and learning also to use

Low income students don’t have a choice of having wifi or a computer. It is very hard for them to do any studying at home, so having wifi and computers at school would be very helpful for their education. One of the most important features of a computer is the access to information it provides. Because the Internet acts as a virtual library, students can have access to nearly any piece of information imaginable. This can be highly advantageous in the classroom as it can enhance the information on any subject. The downside is that sometimes students will stumble across unreliable information online. Computers also save time in many ways. Not only can computers access millions of pages of information on the Internet, but they can do this in an incredibly fast time. What once might have taken hours of library research might now only take a few minutes on the computer. In addition to the Internet, tools such as word processors, presentation software, and spreadsheets have added efficiency. They eliminate much of the time that traditional writing, presentations, and creating tables and forms once required. “Wi-Fi has become a universal expectation among college students, and their attitudes towards technology are a good indicator of broad changes underway in how we as a society learn, work and communicate,” said Edgar Figueroa. Many people now understand the benefits of teaching students how to be proficient with technology. There are many new jobs that came about with the rise of technology. But there are also downsides to the quickly growing online community. Terry Heick of teachthought, a website that promotes itself as being informational to “21st century teachers” says that technology can be a distraction among students that can be hard for teachers to restrict “It may be difficult for a teacher to monitor her students so closely in class as to determine whether they are utilizing educational apps on their tablets or browsing Facebook.”(Heick 1). Many schools also provide students with their own computers or tablets for them to use while they are in attendance. This can be a problem for many schools because of the huge financial commitment this can be. Many schools choose to provide students with Apple products. Apple products can be extremely expensive to supply children with, the most inexpensive Apple computer is the MacBook at $1299,
Many of our students have smartphones, laptops, and tablets they use throughout the school day for school work. While some students depend on their devices to look up the current fashion trends and football stats, we feel that technology has also enabled students to think in a different way. Many students are quick on their feet to Google information to prove their friend wrong, send texts and emails in less than 10 seconds, and get excited when they are allowed to use their
Although books are great means of learning, the process of looking up everything in them was both tedious and time consuming. In present days, students possess the power to hold all information at the press of a button. This convenience saves time and allows students to learn specifically what they need. Today, children would be at a disadvantage if they did not have Internet access at home. One article stated that children at their school are given laptops to aid in their learning; however, nine percent of the children do not have Internet access at home. With a converted curriculum shifted towards research and project based learning, it is impossible for these children to do what is expected of them in class (Monahan, 2014). Eighty five percent of America has Internet access, so it is no surprise that most curriculums in schools are primarily based on computers nowadays. Children are no longer confined to the walls of their classrooms as technology improves and provides new and efficient ways of learning and collaborating with
Most people know the feeling getting in their comfy clothes and sitting down to watch a new episode of their favorite tv show on the laptop. The popcorn laying by ones’s side. Their butter fingers across the keys, while each image is illuminating your face. Their phone is buzzing from the Snapchats. In this generation, people cling to some type of electronic device. “According to the US Department of Education and studies by the National Training and Simulation Association Technology-based instruction can reduce the time students take to reach a learning objective by 30-80%”(ProCon.org). In a classroom, teachers are able to take their class around the world electronically to look at the development of civilizations in Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Latin America. Also, students are able to take virtual trips and collaborate with other students around the world and research in the best libraries
With technology growing at a rapid rate, it has nearly consumed everyone’s lives, especially students. The National School Boards Association says, “Almost 60% of students who use social networking talk about education topics online and more than 50% talk specifically about schoolwork” (“Creating & Connecting” 1). There are more online colleges than ever before. Businesses are communicating via live computer conference calls on opposite ends of the earth. In addition, schools are introducing computer enriched assignments as early as elementary. According to research done by the National School Boards Association, “Nearly all school districts (96%) say that at least some of their teachers assign homework that requires internet use” (“Creating
Not every student is comfortable with technology, and many do not have an interest in it beyond using their smartphones to text, watching videos on YouTube, or playing games. Furthermore, it is rather assuming to think
Some people in school do not have wifi at home and if they need it for school or work that can affect their grade. Students need wifi to do their homework for school, whether it is for college or grade school. For example, it would be difficult to do an online homework assignment without having wifi at home. If cities offered free wifi students could do
Today, many campuses offer free Wi-Fi internet access in all classrooms. However, students abuse the advantage of Wi-Fi internet availability and misuse their laptops in ways that prevents them to engage and concentrate in class. Carrie B. Fried’s points out that although her research demonstrated that laptops are an effective learning tool, there was more suggestive evidence to ban laptops in class because they detract students from learning. Based on her research results, she concluded that students learning are negatively related to in-class laptop use because students spent “considerable time multitasking and that laptop use posed a significant distraction to both users and fellow students” (Computers and Technologies Journal). With Wi-Fi networks, it allows students to use the internet and do non-course related activities: check emails, play online games, visit social media networks such as Facebook and Blogger, and instant message other friends inside and outside of their current classroom. Students performing non course related activities on their laptops distract their fellow classmates as well. A student who misuses their laptop hinders their own learning as well as the learning of peers who are using their laptops appropriately. A student watching a comedy and smiling can distract another classmates’ learning and the disrespect the professor who is struggling to teach.
How would you like to be sitting at school and everything be online, including your teacher? Today, many schools are using computers and tablets to communicate and do their school work instead of, the teacher communicating with the students. Computers and tablets should not be the primary way students learn in schools. Students and teachers go to school communicate with one another. Computers and tablets should not be the primary way students should learn in school. When students use tablets and computers in school they don’t communicate with their classmates as much, as well as teachers. Students can lose their communication skills with the people around them. Finally, students will get too dependent on their devices.
Digital devices provide a great advantage for students to those who have access to it. This makes learning and researching more efficient for students. These devices are not limited to only students but to teachers as well. For instance teachers can save and edit documents such as: homework, projects, attendance sheets, etc. As technology improves over time the easier it is for students to learn and get more out of online material. However, not all students are able to access them in school or their very homes. These factors may vary but are not limited to: income, location and education.
Today, technology is ingrained into every aspect of one’s life, including education. One of the most prominent ways in which technology impacts the classroom is through the abundant amount of knowledge available. A few decades ago, libraries were often the sole means of gathering information and research in classrooms. However, in recent years, the internet has made knowledge more accessible and convenient for student use. A study done by the Pew Research Group discovered that 71% of middle school and high school students with internet access rely mainly on computers, rather than libraries, when completing school projects (Purcell). Unlike libraries, which can hold outdated books and articles, the internet is continually updated, providing an accurate and constant source of information. Additionally, a library’s selection is often limited, whereas the internet has unlimited knowledge on any desired subject. Although libraries are an
Computers in the classroom have brought some benefits. According to Efaw et al., “Since students can easily submit their assignments and have them shown on screen, instructors can cover more assignments in class” (155). Using online programs related to class content can help motivate the students to work (Efaw et al. 155). Additionally, with the current advances in technology, laptops are becoming more affordable and accessible (Wood et al. 1). Furthermore, laptops in the classroom can help students learn to use the tools provided by their computers that they may use in their future careers (Efaw at al. 155).
The internet has improved education because of its immediate access to an abundance of information. According to State Univeristy in the article, ”Technology in Education - School” states, “Students once relied upon local and school libraries and their printed reference materials to research topics. Now, however, computer technologies provide access to digital versions of these references–and to libraries worldwide. Encyclopedias on CD-ROMs provide information, digital images, video, and audio, and also provide links to websites where students access tools such as live web cameras and global positioning satellites. Dictionaries and thesauruses are built into word processors. Through the Internet students can gain access to a wide variety of primary and secondary sources, including government documents, photographs, and diaries” (par.22). In other words, having access to the internet in a classroom is really beneficial to the students. Technology gives students the advantage to search up what they are looking for and are provided with plentiful of information. Technology serves as an easier and faster way to look for information on a specific topic. The internet has a lot to offer, especially for students. It gives them the advantage to have the information they need at their fingertips. They are provided with an abundant amount of web pages that they can use to find information to help them complete a research paper. Stephen Mando writes in the article, “Advanced Technology
Students are constantly staying up late to work on their homework and different projects. They always use the internet to access wide varieties of resources. The internet is accessible just about everywhere we go.
Through its development, the Internet provides different benefits that will help the students and children with their academic standings if it is used correctly at home and in school. According to the U.S Department of Education, statistics shows that ninety-three percent of the schools in the United States have access to the Internet but the ratio of the students to computers was 5.3 to 1. Children who are fortunate to have easy access to the Internet often take the opportunity to learn for granted. On the other hand, children who are struggling to access the advanced technology tend to take all the
