Abstract My target population I am reaching is the students in the classroom and their parents. I am wondering if teachers have the time in their day to be able to make sure all of the students know and understand the lesson. My action research purpose is to learn what the students are interested in and us the information to teach the lesson. The implication of my choice is to use is power point slides.

Unfortunately, teachers have to stay on a certain topic for a certain amount of weeks before moving on to something different and I do not feel like it is fair to the teachers nor the students to move on and knowing some of the students did not grasp the lesson completely.
For example my 9 year old are studying multiplication facts and they have 100 problems, which have to be done in 5 minutes. The multiplication facts are all mixed up from 1-12 facts and I just feel like they are not giving the students enough of time to learn the facts. “Data-based decision making is a high-leverage leadership approach that can facilitate systematic change and can promote improved student achievement (Berhnardt 1998; Holcomb 1999; Schmoker 1996). A data-based culture can empower teachers by providing timely feedback, improving access to meaningful information, and involving them in meaningful decisions. Knowledge enables districts to develop transformational changes, to learn, and to improve. Educators need to identify leverage points where small efforts can make large differences” (p. 223). The wondering is relevant to my passions and interests in education because I want to see all students to be successful academically. Because now a days all students need education to make something of themselves and the students just cannot stop at high school they have to go on
The film Higher Learning is a call to action. It is a film that shows people as products of their environment. The film is set on a college campus, a place where most people learn about what they will do in their adult life to try to better the world or simply educate themselves in order to live a better life. However, life on the Columbus campus is not good; it is a battlefield between the races and sexes. I feel it is a bit exaggerated, but it allows people to see some of the issues that go on, on a college campus. The film focuses on three freshman (Malik, Kristen, & Remy) entering college. They enter a less than ideal new world that is filled with tension, anxiety and fear. Although the writer uses stereotypical characters, it
Some teachers have up to 30 plus students per class and up to 6 or more classes each day. This can pose a challenge with the teachers on how effectively they can work with students on a one-on-one level. Unfortunately, a situation can also arise in which the teacher does not necessarily bother with teaching students and are not bothered if they begin to fall behind.
Dr. Seuss once said “it is better to know how to learn than to know.” My main goal as a teacher is not to make them learn the subject, although that is essential, but to teach them how to learn. My 8th grade class is a diverse group that comes from a complex society. There are differences among the district, state, learning styles of the students, home structure, and the readiness of the students all that need to be addressed within my classroom.
When I was gaining my Bachelor’s Degree, the key statement throughout my journey through the education program was “I will continue to be a lifelong learner.” As I finalized this program I have reached this goal, and this will continue throughout my journey as a teacher as I become involved with more and more school and district based county activities through which I can use the theories, methods, and strategies I have learned throughout this program. In general, it is best, as Goldhammer (69) stresses, to avoid critical dissection of teaching. Too much criticism and
Education theory can either be descriptive like the sciences or normative like in philosophy. Education theory postulates what education processes are supposed to consist of; it sets the standards, norms, and goals in carrying out an education process. The scientific education theory gives a set of hypotheses, which have to be experimented and verified. The two approaches have produced two broad categories of education theories, which are the functionalist’s theory of education
Teachers need to be flexible in how students learn and demonstrate their knowledge and understanding. For example, if a student is having trouble keeping up with written work, the student could accomplish a similar learning objective through a different method.
Students that are not able to keep up with the classroom will be missed and the problem will not be caught early. The point of school is for the children to learn and with every new grade level the skill should increase. For those children that are just being passed to the next level they are not receiving the proper attention needed in order to eventually be able to keep up. “The
For them to be able to learn and retain information, you must be strategic in all aspects of your teaching and the environment you teach in. This includes everything from they way the classroom is set up to your tone of voice while you are teaching.
Theories provide the foundation for educational practices, and many of them exist. While I consider my personal theory or philosophy of education to be one that is something of an ever-changing conglomerate of ideas, I realize that some of my guiding principals are directly attributed to well a well established theory.
I come from Republican baby-boomer parents, whose parents before them were Republicans and so on. Growing up, I had strict political ideas fused into my spongy childhood brain without any realization on my part. I’m from a very liberal part of the country, and I remember in middle school, discussing politics in my civics class, and being confused as to why people would get so mad about the ideas I held as true. My parents talked about this stuff, how could what they say be lies or arrogant responses to social issues? I soon realized through discussion with my peers that a lot of the stuff I said I believed in I really didn’t agree with and that my views were vastly different from my parents and those before them. From there I went super radical liberal, spewing my views at my parents telling them they were wrong! After countless arguments with them, I gave up. They weren't going to change, and in my cynical teenage head I decided that this was true of everyone. Nobody changes, nothing changes, everything sucks. Then I gave up on not only changing people, but politics in general. I just rolled through the
It is important that each student has time to finish an activity and reflect on it. For the most part I have a lot of leeway with my curriculum. However, I have set objectives that I must meet. So, I need a time limit. Nonetheless, If I see a student struggling with a concept or idea, I make time after the lesson or before the next lesson to go over the concept and ensure he or she
I want students to be able to know they are just as responsible for their learning as I am. That is why I plan often to have a few minutes of direct instruction and then allow students to explore the content more in-depth through practicing it with peers. I also have included different activities, such as discovery learning task and a scavenger hunt in this lesson. This will be beneficial for students to see the importance of the skills they are practicing and how just giving them the information is not beneficial for them. They will have to use their previous knowledge and understanding in order to learn the
Aggregate – to form a whole from several parts, to collect, gather or group. “…collects IP addresses for system administration, to report aggregate information to our advertisers, sponsors, and partners, and to audit the use of our site.”( Pearson Education, Inc., 2000-2014). Aggregated data is often used to analyze research findings and look for patterns.
Inquiry is an interactive way of learning. Students are actively engaged in their studies. Inquiry involves student-centered activities focusing on questioning, exploring, and posing explanations. The goal of inquiry is to introduce a new way of learning where students can learn about the world around them through active engagement in real-life examples. Inquiry based learning can be incorporated into all academic subjects throughout the curriculum. Science could possibly be the most effective subject to incorporate inquiry.
“I just don't understand! Why you have to be so simple? Answer me Elizabeth. “Why would you sit there and pee on yourself?” and you think I am going to clean that mess up, well you thought wrong.”
