No doubt that college education is expensive, and may consume a fortune since students have to pay for each class. Still, core courses are not the reason why four-year of schooling is cost so much money. In order to obtain a bachelor degree, student would have to complete 40 courses with, more or less, 120 credit hours. This is a standard, and there is no way around it. Although, if general education wasn’t a must, student would have to fulfill these prerequisites with some other costly courses. Perhaps, something far more unfamiliar and confusing. Why not to take humanities, or history along with social studies and English? The college gave students an opportunity to score an easy “A” and “B”, or at least pass without failing it, saving time
Educating is very important to become a better person and have a better living. According to the Center for College affordability and Productivity “shorter time to completion of a degree dramatically reduces college costs perhaps as much as 25 percent.”( Vedder, Gillen, Bennett, et al.,25). College cost has been rising and some people do not have the money needed to pay for college. People that are attending college get financial help from the government or scholarships so there is no time to waist. They should be making the most of every second that goes by. Financial aid should be taken away if not abiding by the rules of the college, such as only getting financial assistance on classes necessarily needed this will promote students to seek other methods like choosing three-year BA, dual credit classes, advance placement, therefore college cost would be reduced.
Ever since you were little, your parents have been talking about this wonderful thing called college. They told you that you have to go there to get an education before you can get a good job. Many kids have dreamed of going to college, and being able to get the job of their dreams. By putting in hard work and dedication to good grades in high school, you had high hopes that you would be able to get into an Ivy League school. The American dream of being able to go to college to get a degree is sliding away from many people due to rising costs. With increasing tuition prices and job loss, the college dream is slowly and surely slipping away from many students and their families.
“The writing in this essay is my own work. If I have used outside sources, I have acknowledged them through correct documentation.”
The author talks about college cost, and the effect it has on students and on how times it takes longer to graduate. This is an important topic because college cost has been a problem for many individuals for decades and it still is. College cost is something that shapes people's lives and it worries them because college cost is what determines if they're going to continue going to college. It’s something that people should take lightly because college is pretty expensive. According to the advocacy group complete college America, it cost 63,718 for one extra year to attend college. For students who take longer to finish school because of certain requisites, it becomes a toll because of the cost. According to Norton Field Guide to writing by Richard Bullock and Maureen Daly Goggin found a report on Los Angeles-bases campaigns for college opportunity, saying students who attend school 6 years instead of 4 years will lose 110,900 dollars in their lifetime. Many people in the work field and colleges expect students to attend school for four years. According to the NFGW, “nearly nine out of 10 freshmen think they will earn their bachelor degree within the traditional four years.” Yet In the NFGW quotes the U.S Department of Education and they report that “about 45 percent won’t have finished.”
One of the biggest questions a high-school student will be asked is about their future career. What most students pursing a college degree fail to realize is the opportunity cost they might have to sacrifice. It all comes down to the individual because unless the person is a professional basketball player, then college might not be worth the opportunity cost for that said individual. Unfortunately, not everyone is a professional athlete so their opportunity cost for college might not be so easy to determine. Also the student must take into consideration what degree they want to pursue and see how the job market is like. For instance, an art degree may not be the best choice to go with in today’s economy. The CNBC article that brought an interest to this topic is “What’s the
Some people believe that the cost of college is too high, but other people believe that it is not high enough. If you are trying to go to college and don’t have a scholarship, where else can you get the money from? If you don’t have a job you won’t be able to pay for college. They should make it where if you want to go to college you can, for a price that everyone can afford. Basically, most people in college are there on scholarships, academic or athletic. I believe that the cost of college is way too high and it is unfair to the people that can’t afford it. Just because you don’t have enough money that should not stop you from trying to get a greater level of education. The cost of college is too high because of the cost
Every 7 7 in 10, 226 million college graduates has student loan debt; thats over 1.3 trillion dollars. This paper will give a rough estimate of what someone may need in college and how much it will cost to get them. There will also be averages of college tuition and credit hour costs. College is an important aspect of life now that a degree is needed to get most jobs. There are many ways to decrease the prices of college and there are multiple ways to pay for college but college will still be expensive. The cost of college still is too demanding because of living cost such as food and clothes, The course supplies and student loan debt once the student has graduated but, there are ways to reduce the cost like military
The cost of college tuition is increasing exponentially ever year. Students have to pay for a number of things besides the tuition for inference books, dorms, fees, tutor, etc on top of their everyday living expenses. At this rate college tuition will be far beyond the reach for the average person. The inflation raises numerous of questions. If the recession is not getting better why do schools continue to increase tuition? What can be done so that the college tuition won’t be so far out of reach that the average person won’t get no higher education than a high school diploma.
First I will tell you about education. Some type of educations are, an associates degree (2 years of college), bachelors degree (4 years of college), masters degree (6 years of college), and a doctoral degree (8 years of college). It is important to get a college degree if you want a good paying job. One cost of going to college is that you might have college debt, and if you are going to college for a job that doesn’t pay that much than I would recommend not going to a college. But if you are going to college for a job that pays a lot, then I would recommend going.
The biggest challenge facing college students today is the cost overall. Most students that are wanting to go to college aren't able to afford the cost of it. This issue can be addressed by finding ways to lower the cost of tuition. One way for the cost to lower is to reduce the federal presence in financial aid. Another way to lower the cost is to lower the salaries of professors and other administrators at the college. Reducing federal presence in financial aid would help decrease the cost of overall admission at a college and increase the amount of financial aid given to each student. If colleges were to lower the salaries of professors and other administrators at the college, it would significantly lower the cost of tuition because a lot
Brian Kelly points out that being able to appreciate ancient Greek drama may seem like a luxury to some due to the price of college, however, “the point of a classic liberal education is to teach you how to think” (Kelly 12). Colleges challenge students to solve problems. While in class, students are not just handed the answers to all life’s problems. They are introduced to their own research projects and often funded by their university, sometimes even receive stipends for the research. Students are presented with opportunities to make a great impact in the world that they may otherwise never have been able to afford. When someone decides not to attend college they are thrust into the real world before their thinking skills are fully developed. Without college, a student may be presented with opportunities such as researching a cure for cancer or interning in the admissions office. However some argue that “numerous studies have shown that tuition, which has far outpaced the cost of living, has been spent on things other that classroom teaching” (Kelly 8). So maybe the high tuitions are not all going directly into research studies, but they are going into student’s education and “college experiences.” It could be argued that tuition costs could be lowered if faculty members had a salary cut. However, professors deserve to be paid high salaries for the extensive amount of knowledge they bring to the classroom everyday. Professors often have a PhD in a particular subject and also are faced with college debt, which needs to be paid for. College provides students with a mentally stimulating environment that can foster growth that many other places cannot
As the cost of college education continues to rise exponentially year-by-year, politicians are talking about either or not to make it free. Presidential candidates like Bernie Sanders raise the point of making all public colleges free, and others like Hillary just want to end student debt. Making college a free and accessible to anyone sounds like a great idea, in theory, but in the United States it is not so feasible. At least; not the way some politicians plan on making it free. Reasons for which making it free would not work is that in the end, it will be damaging to the U.S. economy. Bernie Sanders wants to raise tax on the rich, the primary source of money in the U.S., but also get most of the money for this program through a tax called “Financial Transactions Tax” or FTT. To put it simply, for every transaction made in the financial markets, the tax will be of one basis point (.01 percent). Doesn’t sound terrible, right? Well not for household traders, but in companies that trade billions each day, that number is drastically larger. Another reason for which this will be damaging is that since all the money funded through this project is from Wall Street, some years could see a drastic shrink in money earned. That ties into the last point that short-term gains are very visible, but in the long run less money will be funneled to this program. So although free college may seem like a worthwhile plan for the United States, the possibility of this plan going into fruition
For decades the price of a college education has increased dramatically. Therefore the debt on college students has also increased rapidly on an average of seven percent a year. This high debt as well as extreme interest rates combined with the lack of well/good paying jobs is leaving United States(US) students with severe debt. If the price of college was more affordable for the average person, there would be less educational debt in the United States.
First, as a college student one of my personal concerns has been the ever-higher costs of education. I happen to be writing to articulate one of these concerns.
Opportunity cost is the most important concept in all of economics, Opportunity cost is the value of the best alternative forgone in making any choice The concept of opportunity cost must not be confused with the purchase price of an item. Consider the cost of a college or university education. That includes the value of the best alternative use of money spent for tuition, fees, and books. But the most important cost of a college education is the value of the forgone alternative uses of time spent studying and attending class instead of using the time in some other endeavour. Students sacrifice that time in hopes of even greater earnings in the future or because they place a value on the opportunity to learn. Or consider the
