Create an Original Greek Myth.

The Ancient Greeks believed in many gods and heroes during their time. Each one had a sole purpose in a mortal’s lifetime. Greek mythology had a huge impact on religion in Ancient Greece. The Greeks performed rituals in order to honor their gods. Mythology affected the Ancient Greeks in many ways. The origins of mythology, the influences of mythology through a human’s lifetime and lessons taught in the ancient myths will be examined.

The Mediterranean has served as a vessel for the early civilizations., Greek mythology has influenced the life style and religion of the Greeks, especially because Greek mythology served as the primary basis of Greek belief, it became the nearest thing the Greeks had to a holy bible.1 These mythologies served as the center of Greek life and these mythologies served as their basis for their life and in turn the mythologies shaped the foundation of the Greek life style, culture, religion that we know today.

Since the beginning of time the people of the world have their share of beliefs. Greek mythology is the arguably the most popular region of study. In Ancient Greece every citizen had a patron that would protect them and pantheism was commonplace. The Romans admired the Greeks in their art and culture and even took different aspects of their gods. Polytheism was widely accepted in all cultures so the seed of mythology bloomed. The time line of the creations of gods to the end of their reign is an important factor in Greek Mythology.

When people wonder about Ancient Greece the first thing that comes to their minds is Greek mythology; gods and goddesses that have helped shape many historical events. “In ancient Greece, stories about gods and goddesses and heroes and monsters were an important part of everyday life.” (“Greek Mythology.”) The civilization showed that numerous characters and stories helped shape Greeks. The beliefs the Greeks had with mythologies was they understood the meaning behind all the characters that are known today. However, to the Greeks, they were not just characters, these were their gods and goddesses who gave them meaning and understanding of the world around them. Worshiping the gods and goddesses helped them with their religious rituals and the temperament of the weather. A famous wine-jar that was made during this time period was “Achilles killing the Amazon Queen Penthesilea, 540-530 BCE, black-figured amphora”. (Khan Academy) The civilization that they lived in grew around their worship and achievements.

The world is a tremendously diverse place in which every different culture possesses their own beliefs. Numerous religions, fables, legends, and myths exist depending on which part of the world an individual is in. The Greeks and Romans are both very polytheistic civilizations. They believe in a multitude of gods and creatures, and they have gods for fertility, elements, war, medicine, and a multitude of others. The mythology of these two cultures is exceedingly similar, although for those looking for a more interesting view on the subject, Greek mythology is far superior to Roman mythology.

Greek Mythology is well known throughout the world. Greek Mythology is composed of many gods, goddesses, and myths; one myth in particular is about courageous Mortal named Atlanta and how she met her husband.

Myth Project Written Portion - Revised Daniel Li The Greek creation myth starts off with chaos. Within this chaos the Earth, or Gaia, appears. Gaia then gives birth to Uranus, the sky, and has children with him.

According to various accounts of the creation of the world. Hesoids version describes that in the beginning, there was only Erebus, or darkness, Nyx, or night, and Chaos, who has been interpreted as the opening form which the other ancient characters arose. Then appeared Gaea, or mother earth, personified as the solid foundation of the world. Next, was Tartarus who is usually confused with the residence Hades, but was depicted as the father of some of Gaea’s children. Also appearing after Chaos was Eros, the source of sexual love/attraction that brought beings together to produce more children.

There are many similarities between the beliefs of Ancient Egyptians and Ancient Greeks. Both Ancient Greeks and Ancient Egyptians had a myth system, where they would make myths about the creation on the universe. For example, in Egyptian Myths priests worshiped the sun god known as Ra, and believed Atum, a manifestation of Ra, created the universe. An example of a Greek myth is the Titans.

Greek mythology played an important role in Ancient Grecian culture. It was often used to explain natural phenomena, human characteristics, and life events. There were also numerous morals and ideas instilled in Greek myths that influenced the behaviors and actions of the people of Ancient Greece. When observing and attempting to interpret Greek myths, one may find that “there is no single, fundamental meaning; rather, the story’s meaning changes depending on the interests and emphases of its teller.” Though many myths focused on the actions of men, women were still very important in many Greek myths, and had a number of different roles, ranging from the prototypical helpless damsel in distress to great and powerful goddesses. These various roles symbolize how women are represented in both negative and positive lights depending on the ideals of the person interpreting the myth. In modern times, for example, women in Greek mythology are interpreted as either ‘pro’ or ‘anti’ woman depending on what messages the feminists want to convey. Although various views of women in Greek mythology have been presented over the years, when one examines the portrayal of females in the stories of The Judgement of Paris, Pasiphae, and Calypso in Greek mythology, one can better understand how many aspects of Greek myths portrayed women in a negative way.

(The New Encyclopedia Britannica. Vol. 24)Mythology is a collection of myths meant to explain the universe. Mythological stories were told in many different cultures and civilizations. The existence of myths is known in every society. Many different myths were conceived to explain occurrences that happened in nature.

Over the recent years, screen-based contents have drastically taken up the attention of those who live in the era built upon electronics. Books have converted to eBook, class printouts to pdf files, and stories to films. Greek mythology is not an exceptions, in fact, they are one of the most common characters to be found in various media platforms. Inspired by the original myth, many content producers have modified what is once traditional. From storylines to characters, creative individuals have incorporated pieces of mythical details into popular culture. One of the most common adaptation are the characters, from the Olympians to magical beasts, Titans to Nymphs. Although they are the same characters based off of the same myth, none of the deities are depicted in the same style, different producers have different ways to express each characters. As a fan of modern adaptations, I wish to perform an analytical comparison between the traditional and modern portrayal of the Olympians in fandom culture.
