Market places are significant social spaces that bring people together from all different social, economic and most importantly ethnic backgrounds and are critical in the building of relationships within a community. Markets and other important social spaces hinder the greater acceptance of cultural diversity in Adelaide which is an integral part what makes Adelaide such a livable city. Through the research project, I was able to take a closer look into the cultural diversity of a local market in Adelaide, Gepps Cross Market, and how it represents the cultural diversity of Greater Adelaide.
The reasons for the increase in cultural diversity in western tertiary institutions can be seen through several examples within the text. First of all, Taras and Rowney (2007) have indicated that the influx of new migrants in North America has exponentially grown over the years. Moreover, the authors also state that there has been a steady increase of new migrants in Australia, Canada, and Western Europe, resulting in the higher rate of international students enrolling in colleges and universities. Evidence shows that immigrants are predominantly from Asia and Eastern Europe. According to Taras and Rowney (2007), the rising increase in immigrants from Eastern European countries is linked with the fall of the Soviet Union and the addition of new states within the European Union. Both Asian and Eastern European cultures are significantly different compared to North American and Western European cultures, which in relation, increases cultural diversity in western tertiary institutions around the world (Taras and Rowney, 2007).
Diversity in organizations has become a huge interest within the workplace due to many factors such as globalization, migration, innovation and most importantly because it is morally correct. Generally, as businesses main goal is profit, and the “workforce diversity management is such a pervasive business practice”(Bowes, L. 2013) they need to keep up with global markets. Diversity in Australia is important, as it is one of the most culturally diverse in the world, with 27% of Australian population being born outside of Australia, however the “management of cultural diversity in Australia has only been mediocre” (Fenwick, M. 2011). With only “few Australian firms [having] established diversity management practices” (McCarthy, G 2009) and
The unique history of Australia has led to it having one of the most culturally diverse population in the world today. Almost 25 percent of the residents of this country were born in another country with numerous others being decedents of refugees or migrants. Also, add in all the almost 2.5 million indigenous people, whose ancestry on this continent dates back centuries, and you have the basis for the multicultural mix that is unique to this country. With immigration continuing in this country, the diversity will only increase and not decrease in the years to come.
There are many types of employment available in many industries from the Mcdonald's worker to a business executive in a multi billion dollar company. The type of jobs and fields available to the Australian labour force is massive but certain circumstances prevent some people to obtain jobs such as
After learning this week about biodiversity and cultural diversity and how it helps to build countries up, I think that it is very important for countries to try and maintain a decent amount of diversity. As we learned Australia is one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world, but they are slowly losing that and becoming less diverse. This is huge an issue! With the less biodiversity in the country, the less cultural diverse the country may become. Why? It is simple. Cultural diversity is basically linked into biodiversity. The more diverse a country is, the more likely it is to have many different cultures. Take Australia for example, it is reported that there are more than 400 different languages being spoke through Australia,
Traditionally, companies pursued the maximization of profit in which economic activity has been their central focus. However, with this fast-changing, culturally diverse environment, companies have seen the importance of enhancing their business reputation through effective business practices and effective communication to their stakeholders and the whole community. Leading businesses are more visible in the critical public eyes and the more powerful they are the more they are at risk to scrutiny (Carroll and Buchholtz 2001, 6) Due to this, businesses nowadays are under much greater pressure as business firms are bound to satisfy the rising expectations of the public and at the same time meet the growing expectations of the increasing
Have you ever experienced a miscommunication with coworkers at workplace? If so, do you know what exactly was the main thing that led to miscommunication? Miscommunication at the workplace happens when coworkers have different points of views, lack of understanding or different life experiences. There is only one workplace issue that includes all of the problems that I have just mentioned: cultural diversity. Cultural diversity at workplace refers to all types of differences among individuals at the workplace such as, different races, different gender, different ages, different points of views and different classes. We are living in the generation where travelling is easier than ever. Millions of people choose to live abroad, therefore communicating with people from different cultures is inevitable. There are various cultures living in the world today and the way each culture communicates differs from one another. Therefore, this problem refers to everyone because in this current generation, everyone gets to face cultural diversity at their workplaces. The misunderstandings that cultural diversity cause can be very serious. It can lead the headquarters of a company to lay off their employees and it can also drive the organization to have an unproductive communication with their business partners. Everyone in this generation faces cultural diversity in daily lives when communicating with others. Therefore, this problem refers to everyone, because in this current generation,
Corporate culture is an intricate component of an organizations identity. Fortune 500 corporations have used corporate culture as a trademark. Apple Computers, a leading technology corporation, leverages its brand by promoting connectivity between all Apple devices. Walmart Corporation requires all associates to dress in dark blue shirts and beige slacks. This document will discuss cultural assessment tools used in assessing organizational culture and gaps within formal groups, leadership styles and techniques that influence social culture and diversity within formal workgroups, description of social culture that influence productivity within diverse workgroups and social culture and diversity of formal group members and the influence on organizational culture.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded Google. They officially launched the company in late 1998. In the much awaited IPO, the company raised approximately $2 billion in September 2004. Currently, Google boasts of over fifteen thousand employees worldwide. Google's corporate culture and mission statement depict a philosophy of making money without the possibility of doing evil (Aponte, Rivers & Wohl, 2005). The life at Google is greatly dominated by these beliefs. The company operates on the official mission statement of organizing global information and making it universally useful and accessible. In 2006, Google won the award for the ideal place to work and was recognized for being the number one employer under the bets place to work category (Pride, Hughes & Kapoor, 2012).
Consequently, Australian organisations have a promising talent pool of future female executives of which they could make use of. Therefore, it is crucial to overcome the obstacles that exclude talented women from upper positions.

Cultural differences and dimensions are very important when it comes to the corporate world. There have been numerous studies done on individual differences that are seeking out to identify the reasons why people behave in which the way they do. In the United States, it is important to understand each dimension and which cultural dimension we focus on most. In this paper, the five cultural dimensions and how they are implemented in the corporate world will be discussed.
“It’s a small world,” is an expression that has been used for a long time to describe how connected the people of the world can be in spite of the vast geographical distance that might exist. This sense of connection is due, in part, to the actions that exist in the business sector and the globalization of business and industry. As organizations strive to remain competitive, many recognize the necessity of global outreach in order to sustain a strong presence throughout the world. There are many opportunities and challenges facing businesses with an eye toward global outreach.
