I have chosen cosmetology as my research career. This career particularly interest me because it is something I would like to do with my life. I feel this career is filled with opportunities that can be very beneficial to me financially and emotionally. One specific goal I have in my life is to one day open my own salon.

Going through cosmetology school gave you the expertise you need to cut and style hair. People come to you because you make them look and feel their best. Unfortunately, you never know when an accident can happen, and no amount of training or professionalism can prevent every mishap. When these things do occur, you want to make sure you and your business are protected with the Cosmetology Insurance Program through Foy Insurance.

Before I graduated from high school, I devised a five year plan for myself. First, I would attend SUNY Albany to obtain a degree in business. Then, I would attend a cosmetology school, acquire the 1,000 hours needed to take my state board exams, take those exams to finally secure my cosmetology license. All of this would eventually lead to opening my own salon in the future. About a month before my graduation, an ambulance bolted my mom to the hospital.

Cosmetology is the general work on others hair and skin. The area of cosmetology I am going for is hair. I find working on other people’s hair fun and interesting. Makeup and nails are other areas of interest for me. I am going to be studying cosmetology to become licensed as an entrepreneur for hair, makeup, and helping to make the lives of others better. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills or training, salary and benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making this decision.

Makeup wasn’t the easiest thing to find or create. The things makeup contained back then will leave you breathless. I wouldn’t have imagined that makeup used so many different things through history. Makeup has a lot of steps to it than just applying it on your face. Makeup seems like it’s nothing but it has a lot to it especially history because it has changed a whole lot over time. It hasn’t only changed by the ingredients but the colors and designers as well as time keeps going by new things also come out.

Cosmetics: In 1909 Gordon Selfridge had opened the first cosmetics counter to allow women to ‘try before you buy.’ By the 1920s, every pharmacy and department store in the world included makeup counters. The previous stigma attached to makeup was gone and women felt at ease scrutinizing the latest powders, vanishing creams, pan sticks, lipsticks and mascaras (or mascaros as they were known in the 1920s).

In order to become a cosmetologist, I will have to take certain steps. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, I must graduate from a state-licensed barber or cosmetology school. I must also have a high school diploma or equivalent. The ages vary from state to a state of how old I have to be to attend a hair school. Most states require that I to be at least 17 or 18 to apply. There are some states that will allow enrollment at the age of 16.After I have graduated from a state-approved training I will be required to take a test.The test will be a written test and/or in some cases it may be a test of styling skills or an oral exam. A survey certified that average women spend about $13,000 on makeup in her life time. Not only that, but also spend 300 hours applying it. Beauty tends to increase the self esteem of women, they think more positive of themselves. Along with that like anything else cosmetology has revolutionized throughout the years. Cosmetology has played an important role in lives of women, it does not only represent beauty, but also self confidence.

Although I cannot say that I have always known what I wanted to do with my life, I have always had a love and passion for hair, nails, makeup, and really anything to do with beauty. Between four sisters, friends, slumber parties, and formals, I have found my love for beauty and have obtained a large amount of practice. As a result of my experiences, my desire for cosmetology has brought me to Paul Mitchell the school. I have decided to attend Paul Mitchell because this school can help further my future education in cosmetology. I am confident that it is the perfect place for me, it will help me achieve my future goals and dreams, and I believe that I am a good student for this school.

Although women were fighting to achieve equality in society in regards to men, they still cared dramatically about their appearance. One major cosmetic brand, Maybelline, emerged, allowing women to focus on their facial enhancement. As fashion trends began to change from a more conservative time, so did the use of cosmetics. While some believe that as time goes by, women become more superficial, others believe quite the opposite. Through the use of clothing (read more about this on page 4) women were able to make a statement so, who’s to say they were not taking the same approach when cosmetics emerged?

Has anyone ever noticed the wackiest or unrealistic makeup, and hair styles that people have, and wondered if they looked in the mirror before they left their house in the morning? Every modern day trend is reflecting back on the stylish ways of the era. Today’s hair and makeup styles generated from years ago and have come back but with a modern twist! Where did cosmetology begin? What advances where made throughout the decades in chemical and technological uses in cosmetology? Also, what are some long term causes and effects that dye chemicals have on us?

Beauty was considered as important in Ancient time as it is today. People might have had never thought of the significance of it in ancient time and assumes it to be a trend of a 20th century. Women have had always looked for ways to enhance their beauty which is why makeup was invented in Ancient times back in 3100BC and is being used more commonly today than ever before. Makeup has gone through many changes and improvement itself to make it easier and safer for its users. I will discuss on how makeup has evolved in a variety of products, how and when they were made as well as what it meant to wear makeup.

In this essay, I will be discussing how the beauty industry has evolved between the period of 1997 till present, the transitions and effects it has caused as well as the possibilities for the future of what it could become.
