This case study focuses on Connor, a Year One student diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Observations and assessment of Connor’s specific needs, current level of performance and modifications to the learning and teaching environment currently being made to cater his individual needs will be analysed. Consequently, a range of teaching strategies, assessment strategies and resources to support Connor will be discussed and Individual Learning Plan (ILP) offered. Finally, a reflection on the strategies proposed and their influence on Connor’s learning needs will be detailed.

People with developmental disability include people who have intellectual impairment, learning disability, pervasive developmental disorder, autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and spina bifida. Common to all form of DD is an extended delay in development of one or more adaptive areas such as self-care, receptive and expressive language, mobility, self-direction, capacity for independent living, and economic sufficiency; whereas in most cases, not all areas of functioning are delayed.

Asperger’s syndrome, which is also referred to as Asperger's disorder, is a type of Persuasive Developmental Disorder. Persuasive Developmental Disorder or PDD are a group of conditions that involve delays in the development of basic skills, the most recognizable of these skills is the ability to communicate and socialize with others as well as use their own imagination. Although Asperger's syndrome is similar in some ways to autism, there are important differences between the two. Children with Asperger's syndrome typically function higher than those children with autism. In addition to them being higher functioning; children with Asperger's syndrome generally have normal intelligence and slightly less than normal language development.

Wobbler syndrome is a disease of dogs that affects their spine in the neck region and is a very important and common cause of neurologic disability in large breed dogs. Wobblers disease is classified under a degenerative or idiopathic disease. Wobbler syndrome or wobblers is the most common name used but Veterinary literature has used multiple different names to describe this condition, this is in part due to the confusion regarding the mechanisms causing it.
