Deception is the act of lying or deceiving someone. Everyone lies at least once in their lifetime, sometimes they do it to not hurt someone’s feelings, but sometimes they do it in a kind of bad way. Sometimes, people use it to get away with something illegal, such as crime and etc. Because of this, this leads to a question of, is lying ever justified? Most people lie because they don’t want to hurt others’ feelings, or they do it to save someone’s life. Lying is not a terrible thing to do, but it mostly relies on how you use it. In some instances, you may use it to protect someone from danger, specifically your friends or even your family. In other instances, some people use it to protect themselves. For example, if someone asks you for lunch
Lying can save you in severe situations such as life or death. Elie lied about his age and said he was eighteen instead of fifteen. “‘Your age?’ he asked, perhaps trying to sound paternal. ‘I'm eighteen.’ My voice was trembling.” (Wiesel 31). Not telling exact information to strangers about yourself can prevent bad things from happening. He told the doctor he was sick so he didn’t have to get his crown taken. His crown could buy him an extra ration of bread and soup, so he decided it’d be smart to keep it. He said he was a farmer because it could save him from being killed immediately. Lying is one of many ways that can help people survive in certain situations.
Lying is something that as a society, we have all learned to do together. We all know a liar, some of us have even become one ourselves. Sometimes, it’s necessary; we may lie to spare the feelings of someone we care about. Sometimes, we lie to get ourselves out of trouble. Sometimes, a lie seems so small that it won't hurt us nor anyone in the process, so who’s to say lying is bad?
I do not condone lying in certain aspects because it is always going to backfire on you. but in some arguable circumstances you have to because you do not want to hurt the person that's why you have to lie to them. then it creates a bigger more deep lie that you have to cover up by other lies. Lying is a part of our daily lives we witness it we hear it and we discuss with each other of why do we lie? well we lie because it's the easiest thing to do we can not grip the truth and the reality of ourselves. If you're going to lie it needs to be a legitimate reason of why you're doing it because a lie can be a serious ordeal to that person. For instance i could lie to my mom (never say i would) about being somewhere that i really shouldn't be
Lying is an essential skill whether it is for a good cause or a bad one. Some of us are very good at lying meanwhile other of us are horrible giving away fraudulent statements. Our society had came to the conclusion as of stepping on other is the best way to survive in the work place such as: the politic system, well-known complanies buying smaller companies, workers seeking for promotions, ect.. Outside of the sweet faithful home, we tend to activate our dishonesty skill to either survive or to lead righteosly. Our social cognition requires us to know the skill of lying since telling lies would increases benefits to either ourselves or others surround us.
While lying can be ,at times, socially acceptable, there are dangers to lying that must be weighed, but most lies are not okay.
Is lying always wrong? For Christians, and other religious groups, lying is a cardinal sin again their deity. This does not mean that being dishonest is only wrong if a person is religious. Even nonreligious people can see the painful effects of lying. Lying harms not only the person being lied to, but also the liar and society as a whole.
Although lying is wrong, everyone lies because it’s human nature. Nobody is perfect, which means we all make mistakes, and all we can do is pray for forgiveness. Even I am guilty of lying, and the biggest lie I ever told was so atrocious, hopefully nobody will ever find out.
Webster’s Dictionary defines a lie as an intentionally false statement. However, defining a simple three-letter word is not as easy as it seems on the surface. Upon reading or hearing the word lie, people are instantly associated with a general feeling of negativity. Lying generally creates feelings of dishonesty, untrustworthiness, deceit, and betrayal. However, lying is one of the oldest human social practices. Erin Bryant explains in her essay “Real Lies, White Lies, and Gray Lies” that even though lying has a derogatory label, it is a very common social behavior used by a majority of people on a daily basis. It has been a subject of scrutiny through the millennia by philosophers such as St. Augustine, Aristotle, and Plato. Can lies
When is lying okay? Is it okay at all times? We have been learning about lying in class. When is lying justified. Is it really such a bad thing? In article 1, they talk about how white lying is okay when someone tries to protect others. A white lie is a harmless or trivial lie. Lying is Never justified. Under some circumstances it is though.
To begin with, there are multiple of ways to lie, and different ways that lying can justified. Lying can be used for the greater good, or in negative ways. For example, “Tim, 18, said the key to being good at lying is to keep it simple. ‘If you get caught in a lie,’ he said, ‘tell another one, and then tell another one to cover that one up, but keep it simple. You keep it simple so you can recap it in your head and keep your story straight.’” (Article 4). This shows that lying to people is terrible. However, lying is an option in order to escape from another lie. Since lying is not positive, it is not very
Getting told a lie is a very unpleasant feeling for some while for others. They have a stronger mentality and can withstand being told a lie. Personally in my opinion, being told a lie makes one feel as if they can’t trust the person anymore due to the fact that they
Lying means presenting oneself in a way that is inconsistent with the true nature of oneself. According to wikipebia` A lie is a statement that is known or intended by its source to be misleading, inaccurate or false.” I have lied numerous of times, for various occasions. As a young child, we lied just for the sake of not getting into trouble with our parents, friends, teachers and elders. A lie was being told after the other without realizing the consequences of the actions. Was is alright to lie, who would I affect in the long run or even was lying beneficial for me? Now as an adult, matured and also following this class has made me realize that either u lie for your own benefit and also you can lie to make the majority
Lying is a natural reaction. Everyone lies. It’s just that some people do it to get out of difficult and awkward situations and to avoid getting people’s feelings hurt. For instance, you are at a friend’s house, getting ready to go to a party. Your friend, not the skinniest person on earth, is going to wear this beautiful dress that she has
One reason why people lie is because it can benefit them in the future. Telling the truth can be inconvenient, and it feels like giving up power over a situation. (Psychology) Being able to tell a lie is like writing their own narrative, and getting the conclusion they desire. It can protect people personally, by hiding certain truths about themselves, or actions that they have done. For example, if you were to consume a cake that your mom spent countless hours on, and she asked who ate the cake, you might respond with “I don’t know,” or “Not me.” In doing so, you are benefiting yourself personally. By not having to get in trouble for eating the cake, you avoid the confrontation with your mother. Adding on to this, some people lie because it can help them socially. Disappointment from friends or family is hard to deal with, so people might fib to help gain respect or interest. (Psychology) Striving to be liked, or wanting it to be true, people will tell “stories” that are not necessarily the whole truth. Gaining popularity can be
Lies often overcomplicate situations by causing a person to have to continually tell more lies to cover up the original, when he or she could have just told the truth in the beginning. However, the problem is that the other option is not always so great either. The truth is perfectly honest, and that can cause one to get in trouble. I believe the main reason why we, as humans, lie is to protect ourselves and to protect the things for which we have much affection. Once, I had told a lie to keep myself from getting into more trouble than telling the truth would gotten me. This lie protected from losing what was the most important thing I had at the time, my freedom. This is the story of the time I lied to protect my freedom.
