2:14pm Manage Discussion Entry Many organizations, particularly those working with Alzheimer’s has been committed to advancing Alzheimer education, research, enhancing care and support individuals affected by the disease. I liked the concept when Murna Downs, was talking about educating dementia care skills and knowledge to improve dementia care. It is not only important to integrate dementia care skills for medical professionals but also equally important for non-medical professionals in order to develop the dementia education. I believe it will be great if the organizations like universities help to ensure that their courses address the skills and knowledge which health and social care staff need in order to care for people who are living with dementia. From my experience, I never thought dementia as a major health problem and never heard of Alzheimer’s disease when I was in Nepal. I thought that as we get older, it’s natural that we leave our brain unexercised and loose memory. My grandfather was not officially diagnosed with dementia but now I think my grandfather had experienced dementia when he died at his 80s. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to provide a care specially those who do not understand the language. Indeed, it is a great challenge for adult day service to increase knowledge and understanding of cultural differences, the ability to acknowledge cultural assumptions and biases and the willingness to make changes in thought and behavior to address those biases. I wish I had asked in a follow up question regarding future plan to deal with multicultural client but I believe it is necessary to develop a culturally competent program to demonstrate empathy and understanding of cultural differences in treatment design and
