As far has holidays go, the Navy likes to celebrate them early to gather everyone together before we each take leave (vacation time). They were throwing a holiday party in early December. I’m new. I want to meet more people. I want to win a prize. So, I buy tickets. Me and a few of my friends are going to go if for no other reason than to maybe win a new xBox. The party itself was fun. We got to see everyone outside of their uniform which may surprise you. I, on the other hand, was less focused on people and more on extending these festivities. One of my friends that I work with invites me to a house party. I walk in the house. There’s music being played off someone’s iPhone, an indoor and outdoor beer pong table, shot glasses sticky with the aftermath of drunk toast with strangers, and a shit ton of people. I find my friend, ECK, and he hugs me with a beer pong ball in his hand. “There’s someone I want to introduce you to.” He guides me towards the couch. “This is Kyle,” he points. I take one look at Kyle and turn into a puddle of mush. He gets up to shake my hand, but I just hug him instead. What can I say…I’m a hugger. We both nervously laugh and I force myself to walk away. People approach me to say hello and catch up on work, but something about our innocent conversations and actually seeing him has me peering over people to see what he’s doing. The weeks that followed morphed together. Kyle, the sailor I was sponsoring, was place in a different work center so I
We love small groups and the phrase “invites only” is a motto for many. During mom’s birthday, I was given the privilege to plan the event. I was very strict on the list of the invited persons. Drinks and food were ready and set for the party to begin. Everyone was excited and anxious to see the young lady grow old. Everyone went silent and turned their heads to the door for a surprise after a knock on the door. Little did we know that it was one of my extrovert friends. I was jubilant he could make it to the party regardless of the many apologies he sent in advance pertaining the party. The moment was spoiled when he turned to the door and told me, “Meet Arleen and shelty, my friends.” There were two additional unannounced persons. I could not show my disappointments or tell anyone. I had to stay at the party. I wished I was an extrovert. I could show that I was unhappy with him, but I did not. It hurts until today. Never show up to an introvert’s party with new unannounced friends.
The comfortable environment of friends and family, delicious smells, and valued conversations make Thanksgiving one of the most enjoyable moments of the year. For as long as I can remember, I have cherished the memories of Thanksgiving with my family. There are comforting sounds of laughter and lively movement throughout the house. With my whole family gathered nearby, I have no choice but to feel grateful.
Heavenly smells in the air, footballs on T.V, family is gathered around, and a comfortable homey feel of my grandmother’s house makes Thanksgiving one of my favorite meals of the year. I will always have memories of thanksgiving at my grandmothers. The smell that rushes your nose as you walk in to the house. So many mouthwatering smells go through the air at my grandmother’s thanksgiving. Her Thanksgiving dinner never fails to fulfill my expectations. With the whole family gathered and the dinner table full of delicious food, I can’t help but feel content.
It 's a tradition that my moms side of the family come to my grandmas house for Thanksgiving. The cool air and falling leaves is a sign of fall and Thanksgiving is my least favorite holiday. I don’t like my cousins very much and I 'm pretty sure the feeling is mutual. Thanksgiving is not that cheerful for me. Years ago at Thanksgiving, I was not excited for it, just like every other year. My grandmas basement is very much underground and quite dark without the lights on. My cousins were running around the basement playing around. I started to try to scare them by hiding and popping out saying "Boo!". Evening approached and the moon starts to come out of hiding and the night starts to set in. It’s a cool night outside and the sun starts to
I’ve never been to California before, but at that point I knew it was going to be a great trip. The next few days were very eventful, filled with sightseeing, shopping, bandfest, the pier, Disneyland, along with other experiences we’ll never forget. The whole time it was like a vacation with my best friends, sharing experiences we will remember forever. Next thing we knew it was New Year's Eve, the day before the parade. The chaperones were gracious enough to throw us a party at the hotel, to celebrate the new year. However for the guard, the party was evanescent. As soon as the countdown was over we all headed up to our rooms to get ready for bed. We had to wake up and be downstairs in the lobby at three in the morning; hair done and ready to do makeup so then we could leave the hotel by
Vacations out of state are always fun, but taking a vacation for your favorite sport is always the best. It was mid-June, and my AAU basketball team had decided we were going to participate in the 2017 YBOA Nationals in Orlando, Florida. I had been to this tournament before, and I knew it was nothing to joke about. The national tournament consisted of over fifty very talented teams from around the country that were competing for the title to bring back to their country. On the way to Florida, my parents and I were definitely excited, but they could obviously tell I was a little nervous. I knew the next week of my life was going to be a battle, but I also knew that my team had the ability to place well in nationals and have fun.
Today, Dec. 20th, 2015. It's almost here; Christmas is just around the corner, are you ready? December 25 has almost arrived, for the kids there is a lot of excitement, the gifts, the food, the fun, fantastic, exciting times like no other time of the year. Youth are making plans, some have trips planned, others parties that are exciting. For moms and dads the list goes on, where do we stop or how do we spread the list, they too are excited, even with all the bills and money that they saved on sales. Is this what Christmas is all about, the hustle and bustle, parties and pleasure? Many that are not Christians possibly will not draw a sober breath for days. Christmas has been turned into a day very unlike it's beginning. The very word Christmas
At Christmas, gifts are the perfect human ginger to treat everyone on your list. They're cute, delicious, and you get this feeling of childhood Christmas. This year, why not give your family and friends a creative gift that is guaranteed to be unique and original, a gift from our favorite holiday cookie: gingerbread.
The only sound that filled my ears was my keyboard clicking as my fingers raced across it. I had been procrastinating from finishing this assignment all evening, but I knew I needed to get it done. The burning sunset was shining through the windows as I was finishing up. It was a peaceful silence, until I heard the soft whispers of my parents that ignited my sense of curiosity. I was concentrating hard; doing my best trying to make out the hushed words that were being spoken.
Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. I love seeing the shinny Christmas lights that decorates my street and the sound of fresh fallen snow on the ground. Christmas reminds me of family, the laughter and loved we shared, and the gifts we gave to each other. My house on Christmas became the center of my joy.
There is a week before Christmas, and we are at my grandmother’s house to celebrate.
It was a beautiful day to try something new at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California. It was a long year in fourth grade, and my family and I were excited to start our summer vacation. As we pulled our trailer on the southbound I-5 freeway towards San Diego, I could see the temperature gauge on my father’s truck slowly dropping to the mid 70’s. We were in a packed car with my father, mother, older brother, younger sister, snacks and drinks everywhere, and me, entranced by the game on my brand new iPod that I recently received on my birthday. I had gone on camping trips my whole life so I was thrilled to go to a new beach and campground, but I was bewildered when we pulled into a Costco parking lot. I asked my father, “Why are we at
One chilly fall day, 14 year old Emma, and her entire family had just boarded a plane to move to Dublin Ireland. Emma was not excited because she didn't want to move away from her friends back in new york, but she had no other choice. One of the main reasons she didn't want to leave was she her best friends. She ended up convincing herself that she could make friends anywhere, it was only a matter of time. As soon as they arrived in Ireland, her parents left to go rent a car while the four children waited. Emma's two older brothers, 15 year old Joey, and 17 year old Jackson, told Emma, and the 4 year old littlest sister, Zoey, some horrifying news.
My family and I have a christmas tradition that involves watching movies all night Christmas Eve and open our presents at midnight. Six years ago I got a tablet. I was so excited for when I woke up a few hour later after it had been charging and couldn’t wait to use it. If I had known what I know now about what happens next, I would not be so anxious. Christmas Day 2015, my sixth grade year. I woke up and of course I was the first up of my brother, sister, mom, and dad. When I rushed to the living room to play with my present, it happened. I started coughing to the point when I collapsed. I was laying on the floor coughing out every bit of air that was in me and that is when I felt the lack of breath. A lot of stuff had happened to me, but that was the first time in my life when I thought I was going to die and the pain made me actually want to. I was alone in my house, having the worst experience of my life, and if it wasn’t for my father waking up and hearing me. He rushed to get me an inhaler, but it only helped me regain the ability to breath. I could not stand, I could not talk, I could not eat, I could barely breath, I felt like a fish out of water and I felt helpless. I was rushed to the E.R where I found out that a throat infection was the cause of all the pain, and that my weight caused the asthma attack. I had stopped caring about others opinions about me at that point, but I realized that my weight was a real problem and not a flaw in me but something that had the
The salty smell lingers in the air, the feel of the cool ocean breeze against my skin, and the boisterous noise coming from the various tourists. The fourth of July weekend is always filled with patriotism, grilling out, and having as much fun as possible. There’s nothing better than the sweet smell of barbeque on a bright sunny day. Well that is until you incorporate staying on the beach into the mix. I was looking forward to peacefulness of the beach, while still enjoying the bustling noise of the holiday festivities; however, is it seemed like every other tourist was seeking refuge to the majestic beaches and festivities. This was just the start of what would be an eventful Independence Day.
