I look around the room and see people eating, watching TV, studying, socializing, and just relaxing. Sparky’s Den in nestled in the basement of the Memorial Union, surrounded by restaurants where students can buy their lunch for the day. Although many of the people eat their lunch in the food court, a few of them are scattered around the room enjoying the calm and relaxing atmosphere instead of the loud, unruly noise of the food court. The different sections of the room help distinguish the different activities going on in the room. When you first walk in through the walkway into the room, you happen upon a cluster of tables scattered throughout the room that are inhabited by people eating, people on computers and phones, and people socializing.
For my project, I decided to observe the Lloyd Hall particularly where the dining is located at, Stewart’s Corner. The observations that occurred wherein a span of one hour blocks, one from 8:40 am – 9:40 am, another at 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, and the last one at 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm all on February 19, 2018. Within the seating area, the dominant traces were tables and chairs to sit, eat, talk, and possibly work on any assignments. Computers lined up on a divider, next to one of the registers. On the walls, there are windows spaced out evenly. In between the windows are black and white photographs of places and people around the University of Alabama campus.
The Firefly room is brightly lit with three large windows that look out onto the playground and garden. The walls are painted bright red and are adorned with student’s artwork as well as educational posters. Roughly two thirds of the room is carpeted and the other one third is tiled. The tiled portion of the room contains tree tables that are used for teacher led activities and mealtimes. This portion of the room also contains some storage a long sand table and a hand sink. The carpeted portion of the room contains the rooms five activity centers, open area to run and play and contains a large carpet used for circle time. One corner of the room is reserved for storing the children’s cots, there is also an unused changing station and more storage.
In the book, ‘Through a Window: My Thirty Years With The Chimpanzees of Gombe,’ written by Jane Goodall, explains the lives of chimpanzees. There are a lot of similarities and some differences between chimps and human lives in terms of social behavior, intellectual ability and their emotional stages as seen from different stages of their lives in the natural setting.
There was once a little town called Sparksville just inside the state lines of Wisconsin. It was a small town, unknown to basically everyone who didn’t live in Wisconsin. The people who lived in the town were nice to strangers, for not to many people came through very often, and they also had amazing hospitality. So amazing in fact the hotels would let complete strangers stay for free as long as they spread good news to their friends about the town. There was only one school in town for there were only about 432 residents living in Sparksville at the time, but the school was decently sized for a small town. The students were all grade A students, the teachers rarely often had problems with any of the students as they were raised with generous manners. Since Sparksville was such a small town the school didn’t offer very many sports other than Hockey, Football, and Basketball.
This street, quiet and empty the night before, turns into a bustling, crowded street, overnight. As I cross the street, the 3 large brick and academic buildings catch my eye. On the far left is McCleary Student Center. It’s large shiny front glass window glistens in the sunlight, reflecting the image of the landscaping just outside. Outside, luscious green bushes and prestigiously maintained grass connect the ever-so-modern campus with the wonders of nature. Directly inside, Price Auditorium, with its grand jet black stage, and maroon upholstered stadium seating, acts as a central meeting spot for the school, and brings together the Severn community on a daily basis. In the time I've been in high school, the spectacle which is Price Auditorium, seems so much more important. It is here in which intriguing ideas are shared, and paramount issues are thoroughly discussed. As I exit price, I follow the scent of hot food up the speckled tile stairs leading up to to the cafeteria. Inside, I can pinpoint the table I always sat at in middle school, with a refreshing view out the back window, where you can catch a glimpse of the river, just beyond the tree line. The cafeteria seems almost like a restaurant, with many unique dishes to chose from. The cafeteria satisfies hunger, while the rest of the 3 academic
At Fontbonne University, the freshman dorm is called St. Joseph hall. For three different days and times, I observed the commons area of St. Joseph hall, which is located on the first floor. When you first walk into St. Joseph hall, you notice that there are two sides with a walkway down the middle. On one side there are two flat screen TV’s surrounded by sofas with a table in the middle. This area is carpeted with a blue, green, and purple pattern. It is worn down and thin. On the other side of the Jo commons, there are four computers and a printer. There are also sofas and chairs on this side. There is florescent lighting throughout, but most of the time it is unneeded because the walls are giant windows. There are lots of scuff marks on the white wall paint (a lot of fixing up needed in this area). The back wall reads “Welcome to Griffin Nation” so as one walks in they can see it.
One thing remains true; the living spaces are phenomenal. From either living in Cottonwood, Cereus, or any other hall at Barrett you are definitely in for a treat. Each hall has a unique characteristic that makes them exceptional. From the floor theme, to the lounge area each hall brings something different to the atmosphere at Barrett. When walking around the various halls you tend to feel like you’re in a three out of four-star hotel because everything is well kept, and refined, but also individualistic. Every hall has a multitude of floors, and each floor has a different theme. Themes could range from Toy Story to The Lego movie, or one could stand out and have a Harambe memorial in front of their living space. These various themes bring the multitude of living spaces together. Barrett is a distinct place on campus that has a lot to be discovered.
The room was big enough for a desk, a bed, a closet, and a dresser. The walls were bare wood from the airship, which gave it a neat look to the room. We were airborne, I was going to write a letter to the curator about the issues I had with Seth, but I decided not to write it, instead I decided to go to the dining hall and eat. When I made my way to the dining hall I was awestruck to see how busy and full it was and the smells, even the furnishings from; the walls to the carpeting on the floor to the windows, it was just breathtaking.
Believe it or not everyone still has that little kid inside them that never grew up. It’s those times when you want to have fun and enjoy life as an adult. In other words, to just forget all the worries and do something adventurous. Sometimes people like to refer it as “Releasing the wild child”. Above I had chosen this particular quotation because I strongly felt that it had shown the happiness of appreciating the little things in life. Clearly, Sparky is just overfilled with excitement from being able to step outside for the very first time into the sunlight again. From being trapped so long in that dark and cold bomb shelter, I guess anybody would be glad to flee from that barbarous environment. However unlike many, Sparky didn’t worry
Traveling is one of my family’s favorite things to do. The family has visited numerous places throughout the United States, however, none are as memorable as Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta, there are many places to go and sights to see such as: Cola-cola factory, Cabbage Patch Kids Factory, Under Ground Mall, the Zoo, Atlanta Braves Stadium, Six Flags Over Georgia, Stone Mountain Park, and the Atlanta Aquarium, are all in or near the city of Atlanta. The three that we visit on every trip to Atlanta are Six Flags, Stone Mountain, and the Atlanta Aquarium.
“… My husband will see for himself what a bad man you are, and then
At Transylvania University, one area that is frequented by students is the common space on the fourth floor of the Dalton Voight residence hall. This area is accessible only to the upperclassmen students who live in this hall. The common area is directly in front of the elevator with hallways of students’ rooms branching off on either side. A window on the other side overlooks “back circle,” as it is called by the students, a greenspace area in the middle of this residential area. In the warmer months, this area is more populated. However, during the winter months, all the furniture has been removed and students are only seen passing through “back circle.” In the common area, there is a mix of styles of furniture that create many options
It has been a long time since hooligans from Fairview stole the trophy and Medicine Lake School's locks have been upgraded by the new Tom Green administration. The old locks have been replaced with expensive and unpickable Abloy cylinders and all glass windows are now alarmed. Nevertheless, despite all the extra security, various items have begun missing from the school for no clear reason. One day, about a third of the computer keyboards are nowhere to be found. The next day, half the clocks are gone. The day after that, someone has taken all the speakers out of the ceiling on the west side. Having a reputation as the guy who got the stolen trophy back from Fairview, I get a call from Tom Green.
Halsted Street, a very familiar name to me. My high school is located nearby the Halsted street in the South Union Ave, so I hear a lot of things about it. But never got a chance to visit it. It is the opposite directions to my home, so I have never been there during all my high school year. When I got there and start my own tour, it just brings me a really different feeling, like you really familiar it but actually you haven’t been there for once.
The most distinct setting of Harry Potter is Hogwarts. Hogwarts is a wondrous, magical building with many towers and turrets. It is home to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I find Hogwarts location, its castle, the grounds, and Quiddich fascinating.
